Ep. 263: DEI, Systematic Racism, & ESG Scores, with Kenny Xu
My guest this week is author Kenny Xu. Kenny has written "An Inconvenient Minority: The Harvard Admissions Case and the Attack on Asian American Excellence" and "School of Woke: How Critical Race Theory Infiltrated American Schools, and Why We Must Reclaim Them". He is also part of the lawsuit against Harvard on behalf of Asian students that calls out their racist admissions program. In this episode, we discuss the evils of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policies and the harm they continue to do. We discuss the lawsuit that he's part of vs. Harvard, social credit and ESG scores, woke corporate policies, where it all comes from, and what to do to fight it. Ep. 262: The Peaks and Valleys of Online Orthodoxy, Pt. 2, with Fr. Turbo, George Michalopulos, and Alex Braszko
This week, we bring you Part 2 of a two-part series on the issues surrounding discussions of Orthodox Christianity on various internet platforms. This format is slightly different for a few reasons. First off, it's moderated by Alex Braszko rather than myself, and I'm more of a panel "guest". And then, as you've likely noticed in the title, it's broken into two episodes. Fr. Turbo guides us through explanations of the hierarchy of the Church, what is appropriate for certain people to speak on publicly, dealing with criticism, and more. George offers up his opinions and experiences running the Monomakhos blog for many years. Why can certain online Orthodox forums be as toxic as they are? Are we risking appearing prideful and lacking humility to Ortho-curious folks? Are people coming to the Church because of finding it through online platforms? Why are so many Orthodox Christians seeking guidance from voices online? We get into all this and more. Ep. 260: The Pandemic and the War on Humanity, with Dr. Naomi Wolf
Dr. Naomi Wolf joins me this week to go over the serious information that her team has uncovered in the Pfizer documents. At , she has assembled a team of over 3500 medical experts to comb over the thousands and thousands of pages of Pfizer documents that the FDA tried to have sealed for 75 years. Luckily, a judge did not allow that. Also, Naomi and her team have discovered many of the reasons that Pfizer didn't want that information to be public. There was not incompetence on their part, but rather outright maliciousness. They knew the harmful effects and the wide variety of them and hid them from the public. We go through many of them in this short episode, and the end result is population decline, which appears to be a feature, not a bug. We get into all of this, along with issues of repentance, punishment, forgiveness, spiritual warfare, good vs. evil, and more. Ep. 259: The True Understanding of the Crucifixion, with Dr. Eugenia Constantinou
My guest this week has more credentials than I can list here, so I will simply call her author of great books and Presbytera, Dr. Eugenia Constantinou. We discuss many of the themes in her latest book, "The Crucifixion of the King of Glory". Growing up in the West, many of us fail to understand the full meaning of Christ's death on the Cross, what he did between his death and resurrection, how we obtain salvation, what sin is, what hades and hell are, and so on. Dr. Jeannie (as I call her) and I take a deep dive into these topics. We start with a chat on the Bible being seen as a real historical record, and we go from there. Ep. 258: The Government, the Church, and the Culture, with Monica Perez
My guest this week is friend of the show and world-renowned podcaster, Monica Perez. Monica and I had such a great discussion that I didn't even get to one of my questions that I had written for this interview! We get into a chat about questioning forms of governance, church and state, and questioning other "taboos" that we take for granted. This is a very free-flowing and fun talk! Ep. 257: The Libertarian to Orthodox Christianity Pipeline, with Matt Erickson and Julie Mastrine
My guests this week, like myself, both considered themselves libertarians at one point. They now, like myself, are Orthodox Christians. They are Matt Erickson, of the Kingpilled podcast, and Julie Mastrine. My guests and myself are not the only ones to journey on this path. Why is this a thing? What is it about Orthodoxy that attracts some libertarians. Is libertarianism compatible with Orthodox Christianity? Are we still using political labels at this point? Is libertarian thought rooted in a post-enlightenment worldview? Matt and Amy take us on their journey and discuss what they've learned along the way and how they've changed. Ep. 256: The Missing Spirit of Masculinity, with Father George Hill
This week, I have a Lieutenant Col. in the Army as well as an Army Chaplain AND an Orthodox Priest, and they are all the same person! That would be Father George Hill. He and I speak on the fact that masculinity has, for the most part, disappeared from most areas of Western Culture. Why is this? What are the ramifications? How can it be fixed? I also ask him if it's appropriate for an Orthodox Christian to join the military these days. We touch on many great topics, and I think you'll enjoy Father George's candor. Ep. 255: No, We Aren't Born That Way, with Joseph Sciambra and Julie Mastrine
This week, not only do I have a wonderful guest, but a great co-host as well! Julie Mastrine is back on the show, this time as my co-host. Our guest is Joseph Sciambra. His story will keep you glued to this one the entire time. Joseph was raised as a Catholic kid in the Bay Area. He was molested numerous times by multiple Catholic priests, starting at age 9. This continued through his teenage years and finally, he left the Catholic church in his late teens. In his twenties, he was living as a gay man in San Francisco, where he lived fast and hard for a decade. At age 29, he was so burned out, he went back home and joined the Catholic church again only to find more priests who were preying on vulnerable men. He details many of these horrific moments and the fear that it instilled in him. Finally, he discovered Father Seraphim Rose and immediately felt drawn to his story. Through Fr. Seraphim, he found the Orthodox Church and knew he had found a home where he could actually feel safe and loved and could trust the priests. This is a wild episode, and I'm thankful for Joseph's openness. The LGBT movement does not like many of the truths that Joseph speaks about getting out. We get into his therapy and how he realized that, no, he wasn't "born gay", but rather, it had to do with deep psychological issues that he is still confronting to this very day. Ep. 254: Buck Johnson: Firefighting, Politics, Spirituality, & Death
This week features my appearance on the Things Hidden podcast with prior Counterflow guest, David Gornoski. I liked our discussion so much that I wanted to feature it on this show. We get into my journey from Death to Tyrants to Death to the World. We cover my job as a firefighter, the spiritual growth in my life, my political views and how they've changed, and lots more. I hope you enjoy listening to this as much as I enjoyed being a part of it. Ep. 253: Myths of the Manosphere, with Julie and Amy Mastrine
This week, Julie Mastrine is back on the show, and she has her twin sister, Amy, with her. They are here to discuss the toxic pendulum swing that some men have taken away from the evils of the progressive feminist left and right into the evils of toxic fake masculinity. In Orthodoxy, we are taught to not fall into the trap of the Devil's Dialectic where we have to choose one evil or the other. They're both demonic, and that's exactly how it's planned. We are to follow the Royal Path rather than falling to the left or right (spiritually), yet many of us fall. This is a discussion all about that and the toxic sides of the man v. woman dialectic that "society" has offered us to choose from. We offered a more nuanced and loving take on the way men and women can view one another. Ep. 252: Transhumanism and the Spirit of Our Age, with Father Peter Heers
My guest this week is Fr. Peter Heers. Fr. Peter is the founder and current head of Uncut Mountain Press, the founder and head of The Orthodox Ethos. He put together a wonderful video presentation called "Transhumanism: An Orthodox Christian Analysis", in which he does a deep dive into the topic of transhumanism. In this episode we discuss the topic from a historical perspective as well as an Orthodox perspective. Ep. 251: We Fight Because of Our Similarities, with David Gornoski
My guest this week, in what is one of my favorite interviews to date, is David Gornoski. David is the host of the radio show, A Neighbor's Choice, a show that looks at politics, science, and culture through the lens of Jesus' personhood revolution. On his radio show and also on his online-exclusive podcast and film series, THINGS HIDDEN, David has interviewed personalities like Ron Paul, Jordan Peterson, and Slavoj Žižek. David has also written multiple essays and columns promoting Jesus' nonviolent ethos and personhood revolution for publications such as the DailyCaller, Townhall, American Conservative, and FEE. In this episode, David breaks down Rene Girard's Mimetic Theory, and as this episode plays out, he intertwines it through various subjects in a way that ties everything we discuss together. Christianity, politics, anthropology, societal relations... it's all here, and it's a wonderful discussion. Ep. 250: Our Coming Digital Prison, with Aman Jabbi
My guest this week brings a frightening yet important topic to the table. Aman Jabbi is the foremost expert when it comes to explaining the digital existence that we will likely experience very soon. Facial recognition, smart cities, artificial intelligence, geo-fencing, central bank digital currency, and total control over our existence. While this all sounds fairly ominous, we also get into a discussion about how it can be avoided and what that even looks like. Ep. 249: Worldviews, Aesthetics, and the Sweatpants Culture, with Jimbob
This week, my format is a little bit different. I was a guest on a livestream over on Jimbob's great YouTube channel (Made by Jimbob), and this episode is from that. I wanted him on my show, and he wanted me on his, so here we are. In this discussion, we get into his journey into Orthodoxy, his political awakenings, and his appreciation for beauty and aesthetics, apart from the sweatpant culture that surrounds us. Ep. 248: Psychedelics and the Spiritual Realm, with David Patrick Harry
My guest this week is returning for a second appearance. He is the wonderful content creator over at the Church of the Eternal Logos, David Patrick Harry. David is a Ph.D. student at the Graduate Theological Union, where his research focuses on New Religious Movements and trends within America. In addition to that, he does research into the occult, the New Age, and psychedelic spirituality, and David is also a Christian apologist from the Eastern Orthodox tradition. In this episode, we discuss mushrooms, DMT, Ayahuasca, and other psychedelics and what spiritual effects they can have on one who partakes. Is there an actual spiritual element to psychedelics? Is it necessarily positive or negative? We discuss how the spiritual experience happens and what exactly that means. We also discuss the paradigm of the psychedelic relative to the paradigm of the Orthodox Christian. Ep. 247: Libertarianism, UFOs, and Orthodoxy, with Griffin Daughtry
My guest this week is the owner of the Samizdat Network as well as a writer for a major newspaper. We discuss the interesting path he's traveled when it comes to his politics, philosophical interests, and now his spiritual life. Griffin has written for many platforms my listeners will be familiar with, including Fee.org and Mises.org. After his journey through libertarianism, he took a deep dive into the UFO world. Now, how would THAT lead one into Orthodoxy? Well, it's written about within Orthodox books, and we get into exactly that! Ep. 246: Is This A World War Now? with Conrad Franz & Dmitriy Kalyagin
My guests are the hosts of the podcast, "World War Now". They also have a Substack with the same name. They dive deep into what is truly happening between Russia and Ukraine and then beyond that regarding who represents which side, and really, what those "sides" represent. The Western media is not a reliable source for real information on these issues, but Conrad and Dmitriy are very good at giving you the relevant information as well as the ramifications of things to come. Ep. 245: Against a New World Orthodoxy, with Father John Whiteford
This week, Archpriest Father John Whiteford is on the show, and we discuss the themes in his four-part series, "The Birth of a New Religion". This series examines the threats of modern society that Father John sees creeping into Orthodox Christianity. These would be: Ecumenism, the LGBTQ ideology, pro-abortion sentiments, and renovationism. We discuss each of these and how/why they are a threat to Orthodoxy. We see the US State Dept. funding the NATO/Ukrainian push to eliminate Christ's True Church in Ukraine, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Not only to eliminate but to murder ordained priests and burn the Churches to the ground. Why are the globalist elites in the West determined to subvert Orthodox Christianity? Who is funding the forces in the US that are attempting to co-opt the Church? We get into all of this and more in this episode of the Counterflow Podcast. Ep. 244: The War Within Yourself, with Father Turbo Qualls
One of my favorite guests is back with us this week. That would be Father Turbo Qualls. Fr. Turbo is an Orthodox Priest at St. Mary of Egypt Serbian Orthodox Church in Kansas City and part of the excellent "Royal Path" podcast. On this episode, Fr. Turbo and I discuss the spiritual warfare not only in the outside world, but within each of us. Sometimes, getting closer to the Light of Christ is a scary thing as the proverbial fat burns away. The demons play on our lust for comfort especially, and it can feel good in the moment to give into their call. We also dive into Fr. Turbo's punk rock days, and he details how being an "outsider" of sorts prepared him for Orthodoxy. Fr. Turbo drops a lot of wonderful wisdom in this episode, and I have no doubt that you will learn some things. Fr. Turbo's podcast with Cyprian and Andrew: Fr.
