Celebrate 7 Years of DAVE WHITE PRESENTS on our Final Broadcast! While we were never remotely close to the same league of folks like Dave Letterman or John Stewart, still a bit of broadcast history comes to an end Tues. Aug 11 on the last broadcast of DAVE WHITE Presents. For our final show, Dave White and Wes Britton look over our past seven years with a batch of folks who’ve been major contributors to our legacy. Dave talks with Program Director Dan White who discusses the many changes to internet radio that have evolved since he created KSAV. Sandy Grabman stops by to talk about BearManor Media, the publisher who’s provided so many celebrities and authors over the years. Dave reminiscences with Chicago Bill Hansen, who’s not only been Dave’s co-reviewer of so many new DVD releases, but had many uncredited roles as well. Looking to the future, Dave introduces the host of the program that will be replacing DWP. Of course, Dave and Wes look back over all their interviews and comedy bits that have made DWP true “Variety Entertainment” twice monthly since 2008. You’ll also learn about their future plans, especially Wes’s upcoming science-fiction books, The Beta-Earth Chronicles, coming your way via, where else, BearManor Media. We’ll also try to squeeze in some samples of the comedy that has made DWP so distinctive since the very beginning. So, for the very last time, The next DAVE WHITE PRESENTS airs Tuesday, Aug. 11 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern, then 7:30 Pacific over-- www.KSAV.org On Wed. Aug. 12 the 90 minute show will be available as a podcast, mp3 download, from itunes, through TEVO and Sticher.com, at our FB page, or on the player at-- www.audioentertainment.org/dwp Learn about Wes Britton’s Beta-Earth Chronicles at his new website— www.drwesleybritton.com

Smash Flops and Early Supernatural TV on the Next DAVE WHITE PRESENTS! Academy and Grammy Award winner Richard Sherman is one-half of the songwriting team that wrote more movie tunes than anyone else in history. For example, along with brother Robert, Sherman composed the scores for MARY POPPINS, CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG, THE JUNGLE BOOK, and THE ARISTOCATS. Actor, writer, and magician Milt Larson, most famous for creating THE MAGIC CASTLE, has also been a longtime songwriter. In fact, for over 60 years, Sherman and Larson have collaborated on a ton of comedy and parody songs with topics ranging from the Titanic to Sarah Palin to fracking. On Tues. July 28, Milt Larson returns to DWP to discuss SMASH FLOPS, a collection of old and new Sherman/Larson comedy classics. With all that experience, you can expect Milt has much to say about the craft of writing comedy music, finding unusual ways to play with headlines, and the stories behind many of the choices you’ll hear on SMASH FLOPS. Yep, we got a few samples for you. One year before THE TWILIGHT ZONE, the paranormal came to television in the now little known series called ALCOA PRESENTS ONE STEP BEYOND. The big difference between TZ and the three-season OSB was that the ABC anthology series was based on actual experiences of ordinary people. From 1959 to 1961, the 96 episodes of ONE STEP BEYOND were docu-dramas of supernatural events that defied logical explanations. Guests stars included the likes of Warren Beatty, Robert Blake, Charles Bronson, Cloris Leachman, Christopher Lee, Jack Lord, and William Shatner. Now, the complete OSB is available on DVD, and reviewers Dave White and Chicago Bill Hanson will delve into the delights of ONE STEP BEYOND on DAVE WHITE PRESENTS. Is OSB a neglected classic your entire family will enjoy? Find out Tues. Making Movies with John Huston and the Hits with Mitch Ryder on the Next DAVE WHITE PRESENTS! In the summer of 1987, a group of the screen’s most notable stars gathered in glamorous Newport, Rhode Island to make Mr. North, a charming and unpretentious film about a magical man who turns the town upside-down. They included Anthony Edwards, Anjelica Huston, Lauren Bacall, Harry Dean Stanton, Virginia Madsen, Tammy Grimes, and legendary director John Huston. But just as the cameras turned, Huston fell ill and was replaced by Robert Mitchum. There were daily reports on Huston’s failing health, and the world wondered whether the lion of Hollywood, after surviving so many close calls with death over the years, would finally succumb. Nat Segaloff was the only journalist—in fact, the only outsider—allowed onto the set and behind the scenes of Mr. North. Over 25 years later, Segaloff tells the full story of how Mr. North came to be in his new book, MR. HUSTON/MR. NORTH: LIFE, DEATH, AND MAKING JOHN HUSTON'S LAST FILM. On Tues. July 14, Nat returns to DAVE WHITE PRESENTS to discuss his book and how so many egos found a way to finish a movie with the worrisome backdrop of Huston’s condition. Digging into the DWP vaults, we’re also offering an encore broadcast of our Jan. 18, 2012 conversation with Mitch Ryder, best-known as lead singer for the Detroit Wheels. (“Devil With A Blue Dress,” “Sock It To Me.” When Mitch sat down with Wes Britton, the two discussed Ryder’s new record, THE PROMISE, his first album in nearly 30 years. They also dug into Mitch’s memoir, DEVILS AND BLUE DRESSES, one of the most candid autobiographies in rock history. So summer nostalgia comes your way on the next DAVE WHITE PRESENTS, Tuesday, July 14 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern, then 7:30 Pacific over-- www.KSAV.org You can pre-record the show at Digital Audio Recording (DAR)-- http://www.dar.fm/faq.php On Wed. The Adventures of the Nelsons, Entertaining the Troops, and Life After Death on the Next DAVE WHITE PRESENTS! In 1935, Ozzie Nelson and his Orchestra had a No. 1 hit with “And Then Some.” Three decades later, Ozzie’s son Ricky had a string of chart-toppers like “Travelin’ Man.” In 1990, Ricky’s sons, Gunnar and Matthew, also hit No. 1 with “(Can't Live Without Your) Love and Affection.” Thus, the Nelsons are the only family to have reached the top of the charts in three generations. Eighty years after Ozzie’s 1935 hit, Gunnar and Matthew are at it again with their new album, PEACE OUT. On Tues. June 30, Gunnar will talk about his family and their music on DAVE WHITE PRESENTS and he has much to share with you! He’ll talk about why PEACE OUT will be the last of the twins’ pop rock albums, but not the last music coming from the Nelsons. He’ll also go back in time and discuss the adventures of both his father and grand-parents. Find out why Wes Britton says this conversation is one of his all-time favorite interviews for DWP! Speaking of travelin’ back in time, film maker Robert Mugge joins us to describe his documentary, ENTERTAINING THE TROOPS: AMERICAN ENTERTAINERS IN WORLD WAR II. Think Danny Kaye, Jack Benny, Lena Horne, Dinah Shore, Jerry Colonna, The Andrews Sisters, Eddie "Rochester" Anderson, Kay Kyser, Lucille Ball, Abbott and Costello and especially Bob Hope. ENTERTAINING THE TROOPS is chock-full of full-length comedy and music clips, insightful interviews with entertainers who were there, and a half-hour reunion with Hope and his WWII troupe recorded before his death in 2003. Along with Mugge’s memories of how he made this film, we’ll spice things up with some good ole bits and songs once so popular all over the world. Rounding out the show, author Richard House M.D. sits down with Dave White to discuss his new book, BETWEEN NOW AND WHEN: HOW MY DEATH MADE MY LIFE WORTH LIVING. It’s a very personal journey about how a medical doctor came to embrace spiritual healing after he nearly died. How’s that for Variety Entertainment? Music, comedy, and even spiritual enlightenment on the next DAVE WHITE PRESENTS, Tuesday, June 30 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern, then 7:30 Pacific over-- www.KSAV.org You can pre-record the show at Digital Audio Recording (DAR)-- http://www.dar.fm/faq.php On Wed. Richard Anderson, Amazing Space, and Buddy Merrill on the Next DAVE WHITE PRESENTS! "We can rebuild him. We have the technology. We can make him better than he was. Better...stronger...faster." From March 7, 1973 – March 6, 1978, we heard the narration above at the beginning of each episode of THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN. We heard these words as spoken by the character of Oscar Goldman as played by actor Richard Anderson. We also saw and heard Oscar Goldman in the two seasons of THE BIONIC WOMAN and the follow-up TV movies reuniting Steve Austin and Jaimie Sommers which, as it happens, Anderson produced. But lest you think Richard Anderson's career began and ended with bionic adventures, well, here are a few of his big screen credits: FORBIDDEN PLANET, PATHS OF GLORY, SEVEN DAYS IN MAY, THE LONG, HOT SUMMER, and THE CURSE OF THE FACELESS MAN. Among his countless TV roles, he was Police Lieutenant Steve Drumm in 23 episodes of PERRY MASON. He also featured in THE RIFLEMAN, THE UNTOUCHABLES, I SPY, THE FUGITIVE, THE A-TEAM, REMINGTON STEELE . . . well, you get the point. Now, you can read Anderson's story in his new AT LAST . . . A MEMOIR. FROM THE GOLDEN YEARS OF M.G.M. TO THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN TO TODAY. On June 2, you can hear all about it on the next DAVE WHITE PRESENTS when Richard Anderson sits down with Wes Britton and tells you how Cary Grant helped launch his career, how he worked with some of the finest talent on the M.G.M lot, and how he'll be reuniting with Lee Majors and Lindsay Wagner at this year's Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Convention! Now, we have something breath-takingly spectacular to share with you. It's an hour-long film called AMAZING SPACE, and amazing is just the right adjective. Visually, it's a stream of images of deep space taken by the Hubble Space Telescope (celebrating its 25th anniversary this year) blended with cosmic animation that makes the production a far more 3-Dimentional presentation than a mere slide-show of our universe. Sonically, composer Christin Hoffman provides an instrumental soundtrack that's amazing on its own merits. On the next DWP, producer Ralph Stevens, the President of Film Chest Media, will tell you how AMAZING SPACE came to be. It's intended to be a spiritual meditation to take you into your own, inner, peaceful space. He'll tell you about the brand-new AMAZING SPACE Collector's edition which includes the film in two formats and a CD of Kristin Hoffman's music you can take with you wherever you go. Speaking of going deep, we go very deep into the DWP archives to bring back a classic conversation with guitarist Buddy Merrill. Back on Jan. 20, 2010, Dave White sat down with Buddy who remembered his years on THE LAWRENCE WELK SHOW. Buddy's time with Welk began in 1955 and lasted for 20 years. Thereafter, he released some 26 albums and was promoting new remastered versions of some of his most popular work on our show. Well, one more time . . . So Richard Anderson, Buddy Merrill, and AMAZING SPACE on the next DAVE WHITE PRESENTS, Tuesday, June 2 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern, then 7:30 Pacific over-- www.KSAV.org You can pre-record the show at Digital Audio Recording (DAR)-- http://www.dar.fm/faq.php On Wed. Gary U.S. Bonds Remembers Ben E. King, the Misadventures of Ed Wood on the Next DAVE WHITE PRESENTS! On April 30, 2015, music lovers everywhere were saddened to hear of the passing of the legendary Ben E. King. Who can forget the hits he made with The Drifters like "Spanish Harlem", "I Who Have Nothing," or his immortal "Stand By Me"? In honor of Ben's life and legacy, our next broadcast will include an encore of Wes Britton's Nov. 23, 2011 interview with King that covered Ben's musical history along with discussions of current projects King was working on at the time. But we thought we should also invite someone who knew Ben E. King well to talk about the place King holds in music history. Who better than past DWP guest Gary U.S. Bonds? Yep, the gent who had early '60s hits like "Quarter to Three," '80s hits like "This Little Girl is Mine," and Gary is still at it! As it happens, Gary met Ben E. King some 50 years ago when the two struck up a lifelong friendship. On the May 19 DWP, Gary and Wes Britton share a very personal conversation about the days when Ben was a member of the Five Crowns—soon to become The Drifters—and their times on the road together. Did you know the two collaborated in 1996 on a version of The Coasters' "Youngblood," a version of the song that's never been released? So no one has heard this duet before—until now. Yep, along with Ben E. King standards, we'll offer something new and very special—two old friends having a lot of fun together in the studio! Was there ever a stranger film maker than Ed Wood? For decades, Wood was a screenwriter, director, producer, actor, author, and editor of the types of movies that make us cringe, flinch, but somehow still fascinate us. This June, authors Andrew J. Rausch and Charles E. Pratt Jr. dive into the weirdness—on and off-screen—in their new book, THE CINEMATIC MISADVENTURES OF ED WOOD. If you thought Tim Burton's 1994 ED WOOD told the full story, well, wait until Andy and Charles sit down with Dave White and spin many a surprise for you! Now, that's entertainment! All this and the usual unusual "predictably unpredictable" comedy of DWP comes your way this Tuesday, May 19 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern, then 7:30 Pacific over-- www.KSAV.org You can pre-record the show at Digital Audio Recording (DAR)-- http://www.dar.fm/faq.php On Wed. John Mayall Returns, Albert Lee Rocks, and Elizabeth Rohm Talks LAW AND ORDER on the Next DAVE WHITE PRESENTS! If you know the history of Fleetwood Mac, you know three of the founding members were Peter Green (guitar), John McVie (bass), and Mick Fleetwood (drums). Did you know this trio first played together in a short-lived incarnation of John Mayall's Bluesbreakers? But unless you were there for one of their 1967 gigs, you've never heard Mayall and this line-up before. Until now. On Tues. May 5, John Mayall returns to DWP to go inside LIVE IN 1967, the first-ever archival recording of the historic sessions originally captured on a reel-to-reel player at various London clubs. Recently, Mayall obtained the rough tapes and had them restored for public release. John has lots to say about working with Green, McVie, and Fleetwood, and we have the chance to dig into an important moment in music history that was once only the stuff of legend. Speaking of legends, what happens when you put four guitar heroes together on the same stage? First, there's James Burton, the man who created the riff for "Suzie Q" in 1957 and spent years touring with Ricky Nelson and Elvis. Then there's Albert Lee who played with The Crickets, Emmylou Harris, Eric Clapton, and the Everly Brothers. Add in Amos Garrett, best known for his work with Canada's Ian and Sylvia and his playing on Maria Muldaur's "Midnight at the Oasis." For good measure, toss in one of Canada's most influential younger roots guitarists, David Wilcox. To tell you what all this added up to, Albert Lee sits down with Wes Britton to discuss how the GUITAR HEROES concert was recorded at the Vancouver Music Fest in 2013 and how it became available for you on CD this April. Albert shares how his British background was rather different from his contemporaries in the '60s, his friendship with Burton, and how the four guitar-slingers meshed at the Vancouver gig. Yep, we got a few hot tracks for you. Finally, once again Dave White reaches back into the DWP archives to offer a Golden Oldie of our own. In this case, it's Dave's Feb. 26, 2013 interview with actress Elizabeth Rohm. Of course, Elizabeth is best-known for her four seasons playing Serena Southerlyn on TV's LAW AND ORDER. But her career also includes work on ANGEL, STALKER, ONE LIFE TO LIVE, and the BBC mini-series, EUREKA STREET. She's a fascinating lady, and you'll hear why Dave thought she well deserved an encore broadcast. So the roots of Fleetwood Mac, roots rock, and LAW AND ORDER on the next DAVE WHITE PRESENTS, Tuesday, May 5 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern, then 7:30 Pacific over-- www.KSAV.org You can pre-record the show at Digital Audio Recording (DAR)-- http://www.dar.fm/faq.php On Wed. Michael Des Barres Rocks, Larry Storch Jokes, and Victory at Sea on the Next DAVE WHITE PRESENTS! Few of us can claim the breadth and depth of a career like that of Michael Des Barres. His acting career includes a role in 1967's TO SIR, WITH LOVE. Later he starred in Clint Eastwood's PINK CADILLAC, UNDER SEIGE, GHOULIES, and sugar town. On TV, he appeared in WKRP IN CINCINNATI, ROSEANNE, SEINFELD and, most famously, as the recurring character, the assassin Murdock, on MACGYVER. But Michael also has a distinguished history as a hard-driving rock singer. He fronted the early 70s outfit, Silverhead, followed by Detective, a band signed to Led Zeppelin's Swan Song Records. When Robert Palmer left Power Station, Des Barres took his place and fronted the band at 1985's Live Aid. Now, Michael has a new solo album out, THE KEY TO THE UNIVERSE, and we're talking good ole rock 'n roll in the Classic Rock mold! In fact, Michael and Wes Britton will be talking rock 'n roll from Silverhead to the present and we'll play two tracks from THE KEY TO THE UNIVERSE to whet your appetite. Here's a clue to what's coming—the first song is titled "I want love to punch me in the face." Now, don't jump to conclusions . . . Next, Dave White again joins Silver Screen Savant Chicago Bill Hansen discussing the 1954 version of VICTORY AT SEA. Based on the 1952-1953 TV documentary series of the same name, the story of naval warfare during World War II was distinguished by the enduring musical score by Richard Rodgers and Robert Russell Bennett. Sixty years later, does the film still deserve the accolades it earned then and will new audiences be interested? Finally, we dip into the DWP archives to replay a classic Nov. 9, 2010 conversation between Wes Britton and impressionist Larry Storch. Yep, Larry was the bumbling Corporal Randolph Agarn on F-TROOP, and has many comic memories about the show to share with you. Did you know Larry was the "Groovy Guru" on GET SMART and was the voice of Mr. Whoopee on TENNESSEE TUXEDO AND HIS TALES? That's just scratching the surface of a long and distinguished career for agent who just turned 92! So Classic Rock, a classic movie, and a classy comic on the next DAVE WHITE PRESENTS, Tuesday, April 21 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern, then 7:30 Pacific over-- www.KSAV.org You can pre-record the show at Digital Audio Recording (DAR)-- http://www.dar.fm/faq.php On Wed. Folk Singer Tom Chapin and John Wayne's THE ALAMO on Next DAVE WHITE PRESENTS! Legendary folk singer Tom Chapin certainly comes from a seriously musical family. His father, Jim, was a noted jazz drummer. Brother Harry gave us hits like "Taxi" and "Cat's in the Cradle." DWP plugged Tom's daughters, The Chapin Sisters, on our Jan. 14, 2014 show when Lily Chapin came by to discuss their DATE WITH THE EVERLEY BROTHERS CD. But 70 year old Tom Chapin has a long, distinguished career of his own. From 1971 to 1976, Chapin hosted MAKE A WISH, a Sunday morning TV series broadcast on ABC. Beginning in 1973, Tom has released 23 solo albums. Three of his spoken word albums for children won Grammys in 2001, 2002, and 2004. On Tues. April 7, Tom Chapin stops by DAVE WHITE PRESENTS to discuss his years in folk music, his interest in social activism and storytelling, and his upcoming album—70. It's a collection of songs that pull together Tom's many interests, so expect warm, lively, and insightful observations on education, the environment, loving grand-children and old dogs, not to mention simply having fun. As 70 is coming out in June, you'll get some early-bird musical samples you'll not hear anywhere else until then. Then, Dave White conducts one of his most favorite interviews of the year with author John Farkis. They discuss John's new book, NOT THINKIN . . . JUST REMEMBERIN. THE MAKING OF JOHN WAYNE'S THE ALAMO. JUST THINKIN is based on the words of those who were there, actors, actresses, crew members, extras, wranglers, and stuntmen in over 100 new interviews. Why did Wayne feel the film was so important and why did he star as Davy Crockett when he didn't intend to? What was John Ford's involvement and what were the ongoing problems that plagued an epic nearly 20 years in the making? Find out on the next DWP, Tuesday, April 7 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern, then 7:30 Pacific over-- www.KSAV.org You can pre-record the show at Digital Audio Recording (DAR)-- http://www.dar.fm/faq.php On Wed. New Music from Dana Fuchs and Game Theory on the Next DAVE WHITE PRESENTS! If you haven't yet experienced the powerful singing of Dana Fuchs, the next DAVE WHITE PRESENTS will blow you away! We promise! For many fans, Dana Fuchs' studio recordings, beginning with 2003's LONELY FOR A LIFETIME, are critically-acclaimed bluesy treasures full of the spirit of Classic Rock. Movie-goers know her best for her role as Sadie in 2007's ACROSS THE UNIVERSE, a role created specifically for her. It should surprise no one that Dana played Janis Joplin in the off-Broadway hit, LOVE, JANIS. If there's any singer most fans compare Dana to, it's Pearl. Last year, the hotter-than-hot Dana Fuchs Band released the two-disc SONGS FROM THE ROAD, which includes a CD and DVD capturing the blistering show some seriously tight musicians can cook! On DWP, Dana will talk about her career, her time working for MTV, her songwriting, and the delights of SONGS FROM THE ROAD. We'll play two great samples for you, including the live version of her signature song, "Bliss Avenue." Then for fans of Power Pop and the "Paisley Underground," we'll introduce you to a band called Game Theory. Between 1982 and 1990, Game Theory released five studio albums and two EPs, but the odds are you never heard them. While the various line-ups lead by band founder Scott Miller wowed college audiences and rock critics, the releases went out-of-print for 25 years. During that time, Game Theory became a cult favorite, Miller passed away, but Omnivore Records thinks now might be time for Game Theory to rise to their rightful place in the rock pantheon. We think they're right. Longtime Game Theory road manager, sound engineer, and co-producer of the new series of re-issues, Dan Vallor, will come to DWP to tell you why Game Theory is a band you should discover. He describes the musical complexity of their songs, the very literate story-telling of Scott Miller's lyrics, and why the new re-issues are treasure troves of Game Theory's studio albums, live performances, and more rarities than anyone thought possible. The newest edition of the series is 1984's REAL NIGHTIME, and we'll play two choice tracks which will demonstrate why Game Theory was so hard to pigeon-hole and why they sound more fresh and contemporary now than they did all those years ago. To round out our show, Dave White is pulling together a batch of "predictably unpredictable" comic surprises, and you'll have to find out what they are on the next DAVE WHITE PRESENTS, Tuesday, March 24 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern, then 7:30 Pacific over-- www.KSAV.org You can pre-record the show at Digital Audio Recording (DAR)-- http://www.dar.fm/faq.php On Wed. Jefferson Airplane's Jorma Kaukonen, James McMurtry, and FATHER KNOWS BEST on the Next DAVE WHITE PRESENTS! 50 years ago, a little outfit called Jefferson Airplane first took flight. Back in 1965, no one thought the band was psychedelic as that sort of music didn't exist yet. Instead, the Airplane thought of itself as folk/rock, a group loosely inspired by bands like The Byrds. But the times, they were a'changing. One of the founding members was guitarist Jorma Kaukonen who was very much a musician inspired by old-time Americana and blues. You can hear his acoustic roots on Airplane songs like "Embryonic Journey" and "Good Shepard." His finger-picking virtuosity was even more evident in his Airplane splinter group, Hot Tuna. Fifty years later, Jorma has issued yet another hot solo tour de force called AIN'T IN NO HURRY. On Tues. March 10, Jorma will tell you all about it on DAVE WHITE PRESENTS, but we also go way back in time to San Francisco psychedelic days. Where did those long guitar solos come from and how does Jorma remember those heady times? Why is he now recording old, old classics like "Brother Can You Spare a Dime" and "Nobody Knows You When you're Down and Out"? Did you know he recorded the latter on an unprofessional demo with Janis Joplin? While we're at it, we ask Jorma about any plans for the Jefferson Airplane's 50th anniversary—more particularly, are there any? "The simple fact is that James McMurtry may be the truest, fiercest songwriter of his generation." - Stephen King We're very proud to have Jorma Kaukonen on DWP, but our March 10 outing also has another major star of the Americana ilk. For years, Grammy-nominated James McMurtry has been giving us Ironic character sketches, stark story songs, poignant love songs, and that's certainly the case on his first studio album in six years, COMPLICATED GAME. It's an album that should more than please fans of his first 1989 album (produced by John Mellencamp) and all his subsequent award-winning songs that have dealt with working people, the road, politics, and relationships that are both literate and intimately melodic. Rounding out the program, once again Dave White dips into the DWP vaults to re-play one of his favorite interviews. This time around, we remember FATHER KNOWS BEST with actor Bill Gray who played, of course, Bud Anderson. In a warm and personable conversation, Bill recalls working with Robert Young and the rest of the cast, being a child actor in the '60s, and the surprising reason his career ended. All this comes your way on the next DAVE WHITE PRESENTS, Tuesday, March 10 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern, then 7:30 Pacific over-- www.KSAV.org You can pre-record the show at Digital Audio Recording (DAR)-- http://www.dar.fm/faq.php On Wed. Back in the early '60s, the Greenwich Village folk scene was a seriously happening place, especially at the Gaslight Cafe. Folks who congregated there included Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Phil Ochs, Judy Collins, Dave Van Ronk, and Tom Paxton. As it happened, Paxton was the first of this group to write his own material about a year before Dylan joined the crowd and revolutionized everything. Paxton's songs were recorded by too many artists to count, but some notables were Dylan, Harry Belafonte, John Denver, The Fireballs, and Peter, Paul, and Mary. On Feb. 24, Tom Paxton comes to DAVE WHITE PRESENTS to talk about his friends from The Greenwich scene and his 62nd album coming out in March, REDEMPTION ROAD. With considerable humor and warmth, he will tell you about his long involvement with political concerns, such as his composing "Whose Garden Was This" for the first Earth Day. He'll tell you why 2015 is his last year for touring, and shares some of his fond reflections on his 50 years plus as a legendary troubadour. We'll also explore REDEMPTION ROAD in depth, and Paxton has many stories to share about how that album came to be and why many think it's the collection that really culminates his career. We'll play a few tunes that demonstrate Tom Paxton is still as poignant, insightful, and revealing as he ever was. Then, long-time listeners to DWP know Wes Britton really likes blistering blues/rock, and our next show offers another powerhouse singer, songwriter, and amazing guitar master. Since 1999, Eric Sardinas and Big Motor have built up an international following and their latest album, BOOMERANG, demonstrates why. Schooled in the old masters, Eric has put his own stamp on the blues, designing and playing his own specially built resonator guitars that add power to the sound of Big Motor. In fact, music don't get much hotter than BOOMERANG and we'll play two samples to showcase why this new release belongs in your collection! Next, long-time listeners to DWP also know Dave White loves to talk about movies, especially when he teams up with the "Savant of the Silver Screen," namely "Chicago Bill" Hanson. This time around, Dave and Bill dive into 2014's VIKTOR which starred Gerard Depardieu and Elizabeth Hurley. It's an action-packed thriller set in Russia and Chechnya with Depardieu taking on mob killers. Is it now worth catching on DVD? Dave White Presents
Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the British Invasion with Peter Asher (Peter and Gordon) and 007 Guitar Man, Vic Flick on the Next *Dave White Presents*! In 1964, Paul McCartney was living upstairs in the home of his girlfriend, Jane Asher. Another upstairs dweller was Peter Asher, Jane's brother, and half of the Peter and Gordon singing duo. Peter happened to hear Paul working on a song the Beatles weren't going to record called "A World Without Love." Peter asked if his group could have it. Paul said yes, and Peter and Gordon had their first major hit. Thereafter, McCartney gave the duo a series of songs and the duo had hits with "I Don't Want to See You Again" and "Woman." They also recorded songs like "I Go to Pieces" an the million-seller, "Lady Godiva." Then Peter worked for Apple Records where he discovered a gent named James Taylor which led to . . . On Tues. Feb. 10, Peter Asher comes to DWP to talk about those hits and how you can see him during this year's "British Invasion 50th Anniversary" tour. On stage, Peter will be joined by Denny Laine (Moody Blues, Wings), Chad and Jeremy, past DWP guest Billy J. Kramer, Mike Pender's Searchers, and Terry Sylvester of the Swinging Blue Jeans and The Hollies. On DWP, you'll hear many stories about the Swinging London scene featuring these stars in one of the most personable, lively, and fast-paced conversations we've ever aired. What was it like to work with Paul McCartney, James Taylor, and Linda Ronstadt? Peter shares so many memories that, well, you'll just have to tune in for all the rock and roll surprises— As it happens, the guitarist on "A World Without Love" was a longtime friend of DWP, namely the legendary Vic Flick. He's best known for being the axeman on the "James Bond Theme" and can be heard on 8 007 soundtracks. George Martin had Vic perform on the *Hard Day's Night* soundtrack ("Ringo's Theme") and his session work included work with Tom Jones, Dusty Springfield, Cilla Black, The Walker Brothers, and, of course, Peter and Gordon. Vic shared many of these stories on the very first edition of DWP back in Aug. 2008 when he was plugging his memoir, *Guitarman*. We decided to re-broadcast that conversation as part of our British Invasion Special. Remember, it all began with the Beatles and one Bond, James Bond— Then, from Swinging London to the American Wild West, Dave White sits down with author Stephen Lodge about his book *Charley Sunday's Texas Outfit!* It's a humorous, old fashioned tale about a cattle drive in the waning days of the Old west, a nostalgic tribute to a vanishing way of life. (Steve also co-wrote Kenny Rogers' *Rio Diablo* and *Kingdom of the Spiders* starring William Shatner.) So join Peter Asher, Vic Flick, and Stephen Lodge on the next *Dave White Presents*, Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern, then 7:30 Pacific over-- www.KSAV.org You can pre-record the show at Digital Audio Recording (DAR)-- http://www.dar.fm/faq.php On Wed. Hugh O'Brian, Women in Comics, and singer Ann McCue on the Next *Dave White Presents*! "Wyatt Earp, Wyatt Earp, brave, courageous and bold. Long live his name, and long live his glory, And long may his story be told." From 1955 to 1961, and on countless reruns ever since, millions of fans have come to know these lines from the theme song for *The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp* starring Hugh O'Brian. Now, the story behind the scenes has finally been told in a new memoir, *Hugh O'Brian, or What's Left of Him*. On Tues. Jan. 27, the legendary lawman himself comes to *DWP* to talk about his most famous character, but there's much more to his story. Did you know, at age 17, he was and remains the youngest drill sergeant in Marine history? Did you know O'Brian coined the phrase, "ooh rah"? Did you know O'Brian paid a price for his Wyatt Earp role, losing much of his hearing due to the fact he couldn't wear earplugs during gun battles? Or that he was the last actor shot by John Wayne in the Duke's final film, *The Shootist*? Or that after a jungle meeting with famed humanitarian Albert Sweitzer, O'Brian founded the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership program in 1958? It's quite an honor for *DWP* to feature one of the last of the great Western stars who's not only brave and bold onscreen, but quite an impressive man in his own right. *DWP* switches gears when Dave White sits down with Marisa Stotter, director of the surprising new documentary, *She Makes Comics*. Many comics fans don't know women have been writing, drawing, and reading comics since the medium’s beginnings in the late 19th century. *She Makes Comics* is the first film to bring together the most influential women of the comics world, and we think any fan of the medium will learn just how significant the behind-the-scenes female superheroines really were. Of course, *DWP* always features hot, classic music, and our Jan. 27 show will introduce you to Australian-born songstress and multi-instrumentalist Anne McCue. She's about to release her 6th studio album,*Blue Sky Thinkin'*, where the bluesy triple-threat musician channels the jazz players and singers that have inspired her since her childhood. Think Billy Holiday, Charlie Christian, Memphis Minnie, Peggy Lee, Cab Calloway, Irving Berlin, and Django Reinhardt. As you'll hear on *DWP*, McCue not only sings songs that take you back to the swing era, plays choice guitar licks showcasing her prowess on both acoustic and electric axes, but she wrote all the tunes on *Blue Sky Thinkin'*. Join Ann and Wes Britton and find out why some think this album is “a bona fide collection of new standards for a generation that hungers for the good stuff.” So Wyatt Earp, women in comics, and new musical standards on the next *Dave White Presents*, Tuesday, Jan. 27 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern, then 7:30 Pacific over-- www.KSAV.org You can pre-record the show at Digital Audio Recording (DAR)-- http://www.dar.fm/faq.php On Wed. *Dave White Presents* gets Soulful with *Take Me to the River*, the Soul Brothers, and *Life in the Past Lane*! In 2014, several generations of musicians congregated in Memphis to produce the documentary and its soundtrack, *Take Me to the River*. The plan was to match old-timers like Mavis Staples, Bobby Blue Bland, Booker T. Jones, William Bell, and Bobby Rush with the likes of Snoop Dogg, Yo Gotti, Al Kapone, and Lil' P-Nut. On Tues. Jan. 13, *Take Me to the River* producer Boo Mitchell comes to *DWP* to describe what happened. Taking you behind the scenes, he discusses the energy and excitement in the studio as these extremely historic recordings were made. He'll tell you how the veterans of Memphis soul got along with the younger artists in these very unique and innovative sessions. You'll hear why *Take Me to the River* is a significant contribution to the story of Southern blues and soul. We suspect you'll be wanting to hear more after you hear Boo's stories and two samples from a very kickass series of surprising collaborations! As it happens, one of the artists on *Take Me to the River* is the venerable Otis Clay. He too will join Wes Britton on the next *DWP*, but he has another release to tell you about. It's called *Soul Brothers*, a collaboration Clay did with another longtime veteran of the blues/soul scene, Johnny Rawls. With 20 music awards between them, Clay and Rawls worked together on a previous 2013 project where they learned they had much in common, both musically and personally. Now, while best known as blues singers, their *Soul Brothers* could be described as good ole "sock and soul" of the Stax/Atlantic heyday. On each track, we get alternating lead vocals by two on fire veterans backed by a seriously in-the-pocket band of fellow soul travelers. Together, well, just wait until you hear the Soul Brothers belt out "Only You Know and I Know" and a beautiful re-working of Jimmy Ruffin's "What Becomes of the Broken Hearted." Like *Take Me to the River*, you might decide *Soul Brothers* is one of those neglected nuggets from 2014 you'll want to add to your library! As always, *DWP* puts the "V" in Variety Entertainment, and this time around Mr. White himself interviews another interviewer, author Jason Hill. Twenty-five years ago, radio host Hill began interviewing stars and behind-the-scenes folks in film, radio, TV and theatre on his *Live in the Past Lane* show. Now, he's been collecting his best conversations in his *Life in the Past Lane* books, and Volume Two is in the pipeline from our friends at BearManor Media. On *DWP*, Dave and Jason talk about some of their favorite interviews from the 1980's with the likes of Bob and Ray, Alan Young, Fran Allison, Arnold Stang, and John Dehner. Jason was able to capture some legendary folks while they were still with us, and now you too can relive the glorious days of yesteryear with two gents who actually remember them! So two healthy helpings of good ole soul music and some radio nostalgia on The next *Dave White Presents*, Tuesday, Jan. 13 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern, then 7:30 Pacific over-- www.KSAV.org You can pre-record the show at Digital Audio Recording (DAR)-- http://www.dar.fm/faq.php On Wed. Have a Happy Days New Year with Donnie Most and jazz/blues singer Robin Banks on the *Dave White Presents* New Year's Special! Don Most is, of course, best remembered for his decade long stint playing Ralph Malph on ABC TV's *Happy Days*. Did you know he also starred in and directed many independent films and appeared on shows from *C.H.I.P.S.*, *Baywatch*, *Glee*, *Star Trek: Voyager*, to *Family Guy*? Did you know he's also a heckofa singer? On Tues. Dec. 30, Don Most comes to *DWP* to talk about his love of the American Songbook and how this led to his current "Donnie Most Sings and Swings" concerts. In a lively and very personable conversation with Wes Britton, Don recalls meeting his idol, Bobby Darin, and discusses his acting work after *Happy Days* (especially *Voyager* and *Family Guy*). Of course, we'll get into his role as Ralph Malph, the differences between the actor and the character, and his relationships with his cast mates. Why did Anson Williams get to sing on the show and not Most? What did Jerry from the *Dick Van Dyke Show* have to do with the creation of Ralph Malph? We'll play you samples of Most belting out some standards and think you'll be happily surprised— Speaking of the sounds of the American Songbook era, Toronto's Robin Banks is a wonderful jazz/blues stylist, as demonstrated on her fifth album, *Modern Classic*. Think Billie Holiday, Etta James, Dinah Washington, Peggy Lee, or Nina Simone. There's one major difference between Robin and her forbearers—she writes all her own autobiographical songs. On top of that, she's supported by the legendary Duke Robillard and the Roomful of Blues horns. On the Dec. 30 *DWP*, you get a chance to meet the saucy, sassy Robin Banks and hear some jumpin' samples from *Modern Classic*! We predict you'll agree that this is the perfect album title for one of the best musical collections of 2014! *Not Another Celebrity Movie*, The Sounds of Philadelphia, and Inside Creedence Clearwater Revival on *Dave White Presents*! How's this for a movie set up? An unbalanced Charlie Sheen is heartbroken over losing Paris Hilton to Usher. Johnny Depp gives Sheen a new drug to help with his woes and Sheen becomes convinced Justin Beiber is his illegitimate son. He plans to kidnap Beiber at a casino gig in Las Vegas and assembles a team to help him which includes Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Lady Gaga, Robert Diniro, Tom Cruise, Mark Zuckerberg, Donald Trump, among other celebs. That's what *Not Another Celebrity Movie* is all about, where the celebrities aren't real but played by uncanny lookalikes. It was director and producer Emilio Ferrari who came up with this very original *Oceans 11* spoof, and on Dec. 16, he's coming to *DWP* to give you the inside story! What were the inspirations for all those gags, how did he find all those lookalikes, and how did the location shooting come about? It's a film now available on DVD, so perhaps you'll learn about a funny stocking stuffer you can add to your Christmas shopping list-- During the 1970s, Philadelphia International Records was the home of groups like the O'Jays, The Spinners, MFSB, The Three Degrees, and Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. One of the composers who wrote many of the hits was a young Philadelphian named Bruce Hawes. Now, Bruce has just written a book going behind the scenes of those soulful days called *GROWING UP IN THE SOUND OF PHILADELPHIA (From The Inside Out)*, and it's available just in time for holiday reading! Joining Wes Britton in a lively conversation, Bruce goes back in time to talk about how he came to Philadelphia International, how he was mentored by the legendary songwriting team of Gamble and Huff, how the hits were shaped in the studio, and how Hawes became an arranger and producer for everyone from Dionne Warwick to The Whispers. But Bruce also has much to say about the economics of the music business and what young performers need to learn if they want to survive in an often cut-throat business. In fact, younger musicians shouldn't miss this one as Bruce shares how he's currently working on promoting young talent to major record companies. How's this for a book title: *A Banquet of Consequences: True Life Adventures of Sex (not too much), Drugs (plenty), Rock & Roll (of course), and the Feds (who invited them?)* That's what you'll see on the book cover of Jake Rohrer's new memoir, and he ain't lying! Back in high school, Jake was friends with a few folks who first called themselves the Blue Velvets, then the Golliwogs, and finally Creedence Clearwater Revival. In 1969, Rohrer joined the band as their tour manager and press agent just as the ride was getting exciting. On the next *DWP*, Jake not only shares his tales of life with CCR, but also hunting, camping, and jamming in the wilderness with John Fogerty, the drug running that landed him in the pen, and the lessons he learned from it all besides the Feds not having much of a sense of humor. But we do, so escape from all those same old boring Christmas songs and spend an evening with quirky celebrity lookalikes invading Los Vegas, remembering the smooth grooves of '70s soul, and learning what it was like to hang out with CCR before and after the glory days on the next *Dave White Presents*, Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern, then 7:30 Pacific over-- www.KSAV.org You can pre-record the show at Digital Audio Recording (DAR)-- http://www.dar.fm/faq.php On Wed. Rockers in Recovery, Actor Michael Dante, and Two Dave Whites on the Next *Dave White Presents*! Michael Dante is one of those actors you might not know by name, but you'd easily recognize him due to his long TV and film career. He's perhaps best known for starring on the *Star Trek* episode "Friday's Child," but he's also appeared in 30 films and 150 television shows. On Tues, Dec. 2, Michael Dante comes to *DWP* to discuss his career with guest host Marc Cushman. (Marc, as *DWP* listeners know, also has a long career in entertainment including being the author of the three-volume *These Are the Voyages* series.) Marc and Michael discuss Michael's career that began when he was a professional baseball player before he starred in films like *Winterhawk* and *Seven Thieves*, not to mention TV shows like "Get Smart*, Bonanza*, *Maverick*, and his recurring role of Crazy Horse on *Custer.* Not surprisingly, Michael has a new book out from our friends at BearManor Media, *From Hollywood to Michael Dante Way*. You'll enjoy this one as Michael has many funny anecdotes to share-- Since 2008, Rockers In Recovery and the Rockers In Recovery All-Star band have provided support for people and their families suffering from all forms of addiction. They do this by, among other activities, hosting festivals and concerts all over the country featuring recovering musicians, by offering a free help line at their website, sharing their message via their own radio shows and magazine, and supporting scientists working on improving addiction recovery rates. One of the founders of Rockers in Recovery, John Hollis, will share many more details with you on the next *DWP*, including how you can join the effort or get help for someone you love. It's the time of year to be thinking about neighbors and family in need, and we think Rockers in Recovery is a fine organization you might want to support. Now—can two Dave Whites get together without a fight breaking out? That question may not be as far-fetched as you might think as one of them is the author of *Fight Card: Bridgeport Brawler*, one of the *Fight Card* boxing pulp series. Longtime *DWP* listeners may recall two-time guest, police officer, author, and TV personality Paul Bishop. Back in 2012, he co-founded the *Fight Card* books which present "’50s noir tales set in exotic locales and across America’s heartland." To date, these pulps feature boxing and martial arts, boxing and romance, and even a line of books featuring boxing and Sherlock Holmes. One of the many writers in the series is, of course, the other Dave White. His *Bridgeport Brawler*, set in Chicago in 1953, is all about a heavyweight champ forced by the Mafia to take a dive. New Comedy, New Music, and DeForest Kelley's First Film on the Next *Dave White Presents*! Perhaps you've seen comic Ty Barnett on the *Tonight Show*, *The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson*, *Last Comic Standing*, or his own special on *Comedy Central*. If not, well, it's high time for you to meet Ty Barnett! On Tues. Nov. 18, Ty Barnett comes to *DWP* to talk about Issues*, his new special now available on Amazon Instant Video, iTunes, and On Demand. It's an hour of Ty's midlife observations about being a single father of two girls, dating, staying in shape, and, well tune in to find out more! But Ty's conversation with Wes Britton is about more than *Issues*. They get into the changes in the comedy biz over the past few decades, the differences in writing for short bits and longer routines, who influenced Ty and what he thinks is happening in comedy clubs now. In short, Ty will get into the nuts-and-bolts of being a stand-up comedian with insights you've likely never heard before. Twenty years before *Star Trek* and Dr. "Bones" McCoy, actor DeForest Kelley debuted in a B-movie mystery called *Fear in the Night*. In a 1946 film filled with shadowy and atmospheric photography, Kelley plays a bank teller who has a nightmare about stabbing a man in a mysterious house he's never seen. But was it really a dream? Now, a newly restored edition of the noir psychological drama has been released, and it should interest not only *Star Trek* fans but also those into old radio thrillers and early b&w TV mysteries. Find out why when Dave White and "Chicago Bill" Hanson offer another discussion in their ongoing series of reviews of classic and overlooked movies of the past and present. Do they think the restored *Fear in the Night* belongs in your library? Finally, we offer brand-new music from a band called Arrica Rose and the . . .'s. Their music is hard to define. Indy rock? Rainey day electric folk pop? Here's how a few critics describe them: "Employing dreamy rock with a sea-salt haze, Rose's newest record is a smoky testament to new forms of folk." - AOL's SPINNER "Arrica Rose was the subject of POPDOSE's most popular 'Download Now' feature - and for good reason. Her rich voice weaves a tapestry of influences from Mazzy Star and Neko Case to the Andrew sisters and the Cowboy Junkies."- Keith Creighton, POPDOSE On the next *DWP*, Arrica Rose herself stops by to talk about what the enigmatic . . .'s are all about. We'll play you a few samples of the band's newest album, *Wavefunction*, and you too can join a rapidly growing fanbase for a singer/songwriter who hopes listeners will, once again, listen to full albums and not just singles. We think you'll agree Arrica Rose and the . . .'s have the songs to back up that belief . . .
