While we were never remotely close to the same league of folks like Dave Letterman or John Stewart, still a bit of broadcast history comes to an end Tues. Aug 11 on the last broadcast of DAVE WHITE Presents. For our final show, Dave White and Wes Britton look over our past seven years with a batch of folks who’ve been major contributors to our legacy. Dave talks with Program Director Dan White who discusses the many changes to internet radio that have evolved since he created KSAV. Sandy Grabman stops by to talk about BearManor Media, the publisher who’s provided so many celebrities and authors over the years. Dave reminiscences with Chicago Bill Hansen, who’s not only been Dave’s co-reviewer of so many new DVD releases, but had many uncredited roles as well. Looking to the future, Dave introduces the host of the program that will be replacing DWP. Of course, Dave and Wes look back over all their interviews and comedy bits that have made DWP true “Variety Entertainment” twice monthly since 2008. Smash Flops and Early Supernatural TV on the Next DAVE WHITE PRESENTS! Academy and Grammy Award winner Richard Sherman is one-half of the songwriting team that wrote more movie tunes than anyone else in history. For example, along with brother Robert, Sherman composed the scores for MARY POPPINS, CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG, THE JUNGLE BOOK, and THE ARISTOCATS. Actor, writer, and magician Milt Larson, most famous for creating THE MAGIC CASTLE, has also been a longtime songwriter. In fact, for over 60 years, Sherman and Larson have collaborated on a ton of comedy and parody songs with topics ranging from the Titanic to Sarah Palin to fracking. On Tues. July 28, Milt Larson returns to DWP to discuss SMASH FLOPS, a collection of old and new Sherman/Larson comedy classics. With all that experience, you can expect Milt has much to say about the craft of writing comedy music, finding unusual ways to play with headlines, and the stories behind many of the choices you’ll hear on SMASH FLOPS. Yep, we got a few samples for you. One year before THE TWILIGHT ZONE, the paranormal came to television in the now little known series called ALCOA PRESENTS ONE STEP BEYOND. The big difference between TZ and the three-season OSB was that the ABC anthology series was based on actual experiences of ordinary people. From 1959 to 1961, the 96 episodes of ONE STEP BEYOND were docu-dramas of supernatural events that defied logical explanations. Guests stars included the likes of Warren Beatty, Robert Blake, Charles Bronson, Cloris Leachman, Christopher Lee, Jack Lord, and William Shatner. But just as the cameras turned, Huston fell ill and was replaced by Robert Mitchum. There were daily reports on Huston’s failing health, and the world wondered whether the lion of Hollywood, after surviving so many close calls with death over the years, would finally succumb. Nat Segaloff was the only journalist—in fact, the only outsider—allowed onto the set and behind the scenes of Mr. North. The Adventures of the Nelsons, Entertaining the Troops, and Life After Death on the Next DAVE WHITE PRESENTS! In 1935, Ozzie Nelson and his Orchestra had a No. 1 hit with “And Then Some.” Three decades later, Ozzie’s son Ricky had a string of chart-toppers like “Travelin’ Man.” In 1990, Ricky’s sons, Gunnar and Matthew, also hit No. 1 with “(Can't Live Without Your) Love and Affection.” Thus, the Nelsons are the only family to have reached the top of the charts in three generations. Gary U.S. Bonds Remembers Ben E. King, the Misadventures of Ed Wood on the Next DAVE WHITE PRESENTS! Who can forget the hits he made with The Drifters like "Spanish Harlem", "I Who Have Nothing," or his immortal "Stand By Me"? John Mayall Returns, Albert Lee Rocks, and Elizabeth Rohm Talks LAW AND ORDER on the Next DAVE WHITE PRESENTS! If you know the history of Fleetwood Mac, you know three of the founding members were Peter Green (guitar), John McVie (bass), and Mick Fleetwood (drums). Did you know this trio first played together in a short-lived incarnation of John Mayall's Bluesbreakers? But unless you were there for one of their 1967 gigs, you've never heard Mayall and this line-up before. Until now. On Tues. May 5, John Mayall returns to DWP to go inside LIVE IN 1967, the first-ever archival recording of the historic sessions originally captured on a reel-to-reel player at various London clubs. Recently, Mayall obtained the rough tapes and had them restored for public release. John has lots to say about working with Green, McVie, and Fleetwood, and we have the chance to dig into an important moment in music history that was once only the stuff of legend. Speaking of legends, what happens when you put four guitar heroes together on the same stage? First, there's James Burton, the man who created the riff for "Suzie Q" in 1957 and spent years touring with Ricky Nelson and Elvis. Then there's Albert Lee who played with The Crickets, Emmylou Harris, Eric Clapton, and the Everly Brothers. Add in Amos Garrett, best known for his work with Canada's Ian and Sylvia and his playing on Maria Muldaur's "Midnight at the Oasis." For good measure, toss in one of Canada's most influential younger roots guitarists, David Wilcox. To tell you what all this added up to, Albert Lee sits down with Wes Britton to discuss how the GUITAR HEROES concert was recorded at the Vancouver Music Fest in 2013 and how it became available for you on CD this April. Albert shares how his British background was rather different from his contemporaries in the '60s, his friendship with Burton, and how the four guitar-slingers meshed at the Vancouver gig. Michael Des Barres Rocks, Larry Storch Jokes, and Victory at Sea on the Next DAVE WHITE PRESENTS! Few of us can claim the breadth and depth of a career like that of Michael Des Barres. His acting career includes a role in 1967's TO SIR, WITH LOVE. Later he starred in Clint Eastwood's PINK CADILLAC, UNDER SEIGE, GHOULIES, and sugar town. On TV, he appeared in WKRP IN CINCINNATI, ROSEANNE, SEINFELD and, most famously, as the recurring character, the assassin Murdock, on MACGYVER. But Michael also has a distinguished history as a hard-driving rock singer. He fronted the early 70s outfit, Silverhead, followed by Detective, a band signed to Led Zeppelin's Swan Song Records. When Robert Palmer left Power Station, Des Barres took his place and fronted the band at 1985's Live Aid. Now, Michael has a new solo album out, THE KEY TO THE UNIVERSE, and we're talking good ole rock 'n roll in the Classic Rock mold! In fact, Michael and Wes Britton will be talking rock 'n roll from Silverhead to the present and we'll play two tracks from THE KEY TO THE UNIVERSE to whet your appetite. Folk Singer Tom Chapin and John Wayne's THE ALAMO on Next DAVE WHITE PRESENTS! Legendary folk singer Tom Chapin certainly comes from a seriously musical family. His father, Jim, was a noted jazz drummer. Brother Harry gave us hits like "Taxi" and "Cat's in the Cradle." DWP plugged Tom's daughters, The Chapin Sisters, on our Jan. 14, 2014 show when Lily Chapin came by to discuss their DATE WITH THE EVERLEY BROTHERS CD. But 70 year old Tom Chapin has a long, distinguished career of his own. From 1971 to 1976, Chapin hosted MAKE A WISH, a Sunday morning TV series broadcast on ABC. Beginning in 1973, Tom has released 23 solo albums. Three of his spoken word albums for children won Grammys in 2001, 2002, and 2004. On Tues. April 7, Tom Chapin stops by DAVE WHITE PRESENTS to discuss his years in folk music, his interest in social activism and storytelling, and his upcoming album—70. New Music from Dana Fuchs and Game Theory on the Next DAVE WHITE PRESENTS! If you haven't yet experienced the powerful singing of Dana Fuchs, the next DAVE WHITE PRESENTS will blow you away! We promise! For many fans, Dana Fuchs' studio recordings, beginning with 2003's LONELY FOR A LIFETIME, are critically-acclaimed bluesy treasures full of the spirit of Classic Rock. Movie-goers know her best for her role as Sadie in 2007's ACROSS THE UNIVERSE, a role created specifically for her. It should surprise no one that Dana played Janis Joplin in the off-Broadway hit, LOVE, JANIS. If there's any singer most fans compare Dana to, it's Pearl. Last year, the hotter-than-hot Dana Fuchs Band released the two-disc SONGS FROM THE ROAD, which includes a CD and DVD capturing the blistering show some seriously tight musicians can cook! On DWP, Dana will talk about her career, her time working for MTV, her songwriting, and the delights of SONGS FROM THE ROAD. During that time, Game Theory became a cult favorite, Miller passed away, but Omnivore Records thinks now might be time for Game Theory to rise to their rightful place in the rock pantheon. Longtime Game Theory road manager, sound engineer, and co-producer of the new series of re-issues, Dan Vallor, will come to DWP to tell you why Game Theory is a band you should discover. He describes the musical complexity of their songs, the very literate story-telling of Scott Miller's lyrics, and why the new re-issues are treasure troves of Game Theory's studio albums, live performances, and more rarities than anyone thought possible. Jefferson Airplane's Jorma Kaukonen, James McMurtry, and FATHER KNOWS BEST on the Next DAVE WHITE PRESENTS! 50 years ago, a little outfit called Jefferson Airplane first took flight. Back in 1965, no one thought the band was psychedelic as that sort of music didn't exist yet. Instead, the Airplane thought of itself as folk/rock, a group loosely inspired by bands like The Byrds. But the times, they were a'changing. One of the founding members was guitarist Jorma Kaukonen who was very much a musician inspired by old-time Americana and blues. You can hear his acoustic roots on Airplane songs like "Embryonic Journey" and "Good Shepard." His finger-picking virtuosity was even more evident in his Airplane splinter group, Hot Tuna. Fifty years later, Jorma has issued yet another hot solo tour de force called AIN'T IN NO HURRY. On Tues. March 10, Jorma will tell you all about it on DAVE WHITE PRESENTS, but we also go way back in time to San Francisco psychedelic days. Where did those long guitar solos come from and how does Jorma remember those heady times? The Legendary Tom Paxton, the Hot Blues of Eric Sardinas, and a film called VIKTOR on the Next DAVE WHITE PRESENTS! Back in the early '60s, the Greenwich Village folk scene was a seriously happening place, especially at the Gaslight Cafe. Folks who congregated there included Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Phil Ochs, Judy Collins, Dave Van Ronk, and Tom Paxton. As it happened, Paxton was the first of this group to write his own material about a year before Dylan joined the crowd and revolutionized everything. Paxton's songs were recorded by too many artists to count, but some notables were Dylan, Harry Belafonte, John Denver, The Fireballs, and Peter, Paul, and Mary. On Feb. 24, Tom Paxton comes to DAVE WHITE PRESENTS to talk about his friends from The Greenwich scene and his 62nd album coming out in March, REDEMPTION ROAD. Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the British Invasion with Peter Asher (Peter and Gordon) and 007 Guitar Man, Vic Flick on the Next *Dave White Presents*! In 1964, Paul McCartney was living upstairs in the home of his girlfriend, Jane Asher. Another upstairs dweller was Peter Asher, Jane's brother, and half of the Peter and Gordon singing duo. Peter happened to hear Paul working on a song the Beatles weren't going to record called "A World Without Love." Peter asked if his group could have it. Paul said yes, and Peter and Gordon had their first major hit. Thereafter, McCartney gave the duo a series of songs and the duo had hits with "I Don't Want to See You Again" and "Woman." They also recorded songs like "I Go to Pieces" an the million-seller, "Lady Godiva." Then Peter worked for Apple Records where he discovered a gent named James Taylor which led to . . . On Tues. In 2014, several generations of musicians congregated in Memphis to produce the documentary and its soundtrack, *Take Me to the River*. The plan was to match old-timers like Mavis Staples, Bobby Blue Bland, Booker T. Jones, William Bell, and Bobby Rush with the likes of Snoop Dogg, Yo Gotti, Al Kapone, and Lil' P-Nut. On Tues. Jan. 13, *Take Me to the River* producer Boo Mitchell comes to *DWP* to describe what happened. Taking you behind the scenes, he discusses the energy and excitement in the studio as these extremely historic recordings were made. He'll tell you how the veterans of Memphis soul got along with the younger artists in these very unique and innovative sessions. You'll hear why *Take Me to the River* is a significant contribution to the story of Southern blues and soul. That's what *Not Another Celebrity Movie* is all about, where the celebrities aren't real but played by uncanny lookalikes. Rockers in Recovery, Actor Michael Dante, and Two Dave Whites on the Next *Dave White Presents*! Michael Dante is one of those actors you might not know by name, but you'd easily recognize him due to his long TV and film career. He's perhaps best known for starring on the *Star Trek* episode "Friday's Child," but he's also appeared in 30 films and 150 television shows. On Tues, Dec. 2, Michael Dante comes to *DWP* to discuss his career with guest host Marc Cushman. (Marc, as *DWP* listeners know, also has a long career in entertainment including being the author of the three-volume *These Are the Voyages* series.) Marc and Michael discuss Michael's career that began when he was a professional baseball player before he starred in films like *Winterhawk* and *Seven Thieves*, not to mention TV shows like "Get Smart*, Bonanza*, *Maverick*, and his recurring role of Crazy Horse on *Custer.* Not surprisingly, Michael has a new book out from our friends at BearManor Media, *From Hollywood to Michael Dante Way*.
