#03 – Election Special: Super Tuesdata
7 Candidates, 13 States, 14 Million Votes, 1,460 Delegates, and 216 Emails The Data is overwhelming and the race is far from over, but one thing we can determine is how candidates communicate to voters on an election day and what that tells us about their plan and prospects moving forward. In this episode, hosts Kyle J. Britt and Michael Kinstlinger skip the pleasantries and get down to brass tacks as they discuss the email and social media communications the seven candidates sent on Super Tuesday 2016. #02 – Presidential Spam & The Media Circus
Nailing the basics and missing the mark: a tale of 7 candidates. There are some basics of email marketing. Basics that several of the campaigns are defying. Why are they doing it and what does it tell us about their campaign? In this episode, hosts Kyle J. Britt and Michael Kinstlinger play our weekly game, "Who said it?" where we pull a quote from one of the emails or social posts from our Presidential Candidates and ask guests in our studio to answer the question: who said it? Then we explore the spam folders of our Data Defeats Truman email accounts and try to determine if bad email practices beget a bad candidate. Lastly we take a look at the enigma called Donald Trump and try to understand why he succeeds despite following none of the conventional campaign practices. #01 – Emojis, Twitter, and Piano Playing Presidents
Does Authenticity Matter? What Candidates for the Presidency say and what they actually believe don't always line up. But when their words and their beliefs do match up, voters tend to take notice. Voters want to support someone they can trust and authenticity goes a long way to demonstrating this.  In this episode, hosts Kyle J. Britt and Michael Kinstlinger play a game called "Who said it?" where we pull a quote from one of the emails or social posts from our Presidential Candidates and ask guests in our studio to answer the question: who said it? Then we explore the concepts of relatability and authenticity with Dr. Bill Horner of the University of Missouri and discuss how it plays out in the communications Candidates send out and the appearances they make. An Introduction
Since 1968, 10 of the 12 American Presidential elections have been won by the candidate who raised the most money. In 2008 and 2012 most of President Obama’s individual campaign contributions were driven through email. Email, and more recently, social media, is driving the bulk of the individual campaign contributions. So if we want to understand the candidates running for President, looking at their email and social media is a good place to start. In this episode, hosts Kyle J. Britt and Michael Kinstlinger introduce Data Defeats Truman, a show about how the 2016 American Presidential Hopefuls talk to voters and what that tells us about them.  Follow us on Twitter @DataDefeats, @kylejbritt, & @MKinstlinger.
