Theme From Q: Club Toilets
Welcome to Dance inc. This episode is all about flushing out exclusion and freshening up clubs with acceptance- yes, it’s a toilet episode! No one should be harassed for needing the loo yet so often a club’s bogs can become a breeding ground for negative attitudes towards clubbers using the toilets and the people working at them too. We hear from Paris Lees, Atitha Sen Gupta, Christine Burns, Suzanne Bull and Paula Duran on stories concerning topics that include everyday sexism, exploited labour, transphobia, racism and disabled access. Featuring: DJ Goldierocks (@goldierocks) Paula Duran Paris Lees (@parislees) Christine Burns (@christineburns) Suzanne Bull (@attitudetweets) Atiha Sen Gupta (@atihasengupta) Further Reading: The Accessible Toilet Project - https://accessible-toilet-project.blog/ Can Everyone Stop Freaking Out Over Which Bathroom Transgender People Use? - https://www.vice.com/en_uk/article/4w7w43/can-everyone-stop-freaking-out-over-which-bathroom-transgender-people-use The Everyday Sexism of Women Waiting in Public Toilet Lines - http://time.com/3653871/womens-bathroom-lines-sexist-potty-parity/ The Music Venue Guide To Accessible Toilets - http://www.attitudeiseverything.org.uk/news/music-venue-guide-to-accessible-toilets What Is A Gender neutral Bathroom?- https://www.pinknews.co.uk/2017/05/26/what-is-a-gender-neutral-bathroom/ How theatre can confront Britain's post-Brexit racism - https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/theatre-dance/features/how-theatre-can-confront-britains-post-brexit-racism-a7218596.html Dance Inc. has been brought to you in association with DJ Mag. Last Night A DJ Saved My Life: The History Of Club Culture
Welcome to Dance inc. - This podcast aims to tackle dance music’s diversity issues head on…..We want to see diversity in festival line-ups, less sexual violence in nightclubs and better wheelchair access to gigs (and that’s just the start) But before we push for a brighter future for all of club culture it’s important to understand where dance music originated- its real roots. Shuffle into Dance Inc.’s glowy neon time machine with presenter Goldierocks as music journalist Bill Brewster takes us back to the birth of disco. We then meet legendary promoter DJ Ritu for a rave around London’s club scene in the 80s and 90s (feather boas and neon clobber optional)….. It’s a brief history of 4/4 time!
