Cue Zero Theatre Cast Season 2 Episode 15: Creating an Original Musical
Ever wonder just what it takes to write a musical? How different is it from developing a play or a film? On today's episode, Artistic Director Dan Pelletier chats with local writer and director Justin Scarelli regarding his process in creating his original musical, Some Holiday. About Justin: Justin’s previous work experience at Warner Bros. and the Walt Disney Company exposed him to all aspects of marketing and digital media. As a writer/director, some project highlights include the critically-reviewed Movie Night, an episodic web series about a group of movie-loving misfits in Los Angeles; Rated PG: A Parody of Sex and Violence in Contemporary Media, a documentary produced in conjunction with a teen center in Hillsboro, NH, featured at a national conference in Boston; and Some Holiday, an original musical that had its Seacoast premiere in November 2019 and is further being developed with his co-composer/lyricist Marina Altschiller. He currently works at Merrimack Repertory Theatre in Lowell, MA. About Some Holiday: Grace and Dan are recently married college sweethearts, trying to pay the bills and settle into careers, when an unexpected pregnancy is thrown into the mix. Sam, a commitment-phobe, struggles when his boyfriend Chris reveals he has a child from a previous relationship. Tracy and Miles gave up their performer lifestyles for their son, but Tracy’s Broadway dreams are still calling. Some Holiday explores the thread that holds all of these relationships together: the uneasy, endearing and often humorous acceptance of becoming a parent. Need more Cue Zero in your life?
