Cory Talks S03 E08 - Mon 8 Mar 2021
On this edition of Cory Talks… It’s a sh*t show in Canberra at the moment. You’d be hard pressed to find an adult Australian who is not aware of the truly disturbing rape allegations in the nation’s capital and a claim of a historical rape involving a very senior Australian government minister and Senator. The Federal Government has a completely different stance on how to proceed (quite simply, closing the case). But Australian’s are angry and upset… and rightly so. I’ll present a timeline of events as they’ve happened since the last podcast. There will be #March4Justice protest rallies around the country including at Parliament House Canberra on Monday 15th March at noon. Two Royal Commissions came to an end this past week. A federal one into the Aged Care sector. One state RC into the Mental Health system in Victoria. Making the announcements, Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews. Spot the difference between these leaders. One admitted fault, accepted recommendations and promised change. The other flew into defensive mode. Australian Senator calls a former staffer a lying cow after making rape allegations. Triple earthquake off New Zealand and resulting tsunami alert. Blowout in the cost of Australia’s digital future, the National Broadband Network. It could have cost a whole lot less if politics was not involved. Western Australia joins Victoria in launching a Royal Commission into Crown Resorts and Casino after a damning report in New South Wales banned Crown from opening a casino in that state. Australian music industry legend and founder of Mushroom Records, Michael Gudinski has passed away. The Queen’s video chat to Australia. Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras 2021 is given the thumbs up despite operating in a COVID safe environment with social distancing. Trump 2024… please tell me it’s not true!!! Kayleigh McEnany, the former White House Press Secretary joins Fox News to the amazement of no one. Dolly Parton in fine voice as she prepared to get the COVID-19 vaccine. Cory Talks S03 E07 - Mon 1 Mar 2021
On this edition of Cory Talks… That circuit breaker COVID-19 lockdown in Victoria recently has done the trick it seems, with further restrictions being lifted over the past weekend. Meanwhile Queensland has opened up its metaphorical arms to Greater Melbourne, lifting travel restrictions. I will not be reporting on the now growing list of rape allegations out of Australia’s capital. I’ve stated my reasons on my “Use Your Words” blog and also a rather lengthy response in the opening of this episode. You can find the blog post at https://cory.media/2021/02/23/capital-crime/ Australian government COVID-19 conspiracy theorist Craig Kelly has quit his party, almost guaranteeing that he’ll be even more of a nuisance to the Liberal Party than before. The JobSeeker unemployment benefits base rate will go up $25 a week from next month. But the $75 a week coronavirus supplement will disappear. Not exactly a good time to be persecuted by the Morrison government. But dividing the nation is what they do best. Evil old business tyrant (no not Rupert Murdoch this time), Gerry Harvey who controls the Harvey Norman department stores in Australia and New Zealand has decided NOT to give back the $22 million it accepted from the Federal Government in the form of JobKeeper to keep staff on during the pandemic. This is despite make huge profits in 2021. #BoycottHarveyNorman Facebook refriended Australia after the Morrison government which was not going to cave on their proposed media bargaining legislation. Well… they caved slightly and came to an agreement with Facebook. However the social media behemoth reserves the right to ban news being served up on its platform in Australia in the future. My opinion – neither side is looking out for Australia or journalism. When the going gets tough, Republican nitwit Ted Cruz gets going… to Cancun. I don’t think America can survive yet another selfish power hungry cretin in politics. Speaking of selfish power hungry cretins, Trump’s tax returns have finally been released. Hopefully in time to lock up the Orange Idiot. Speaking or right wing troublemakers, Australia has a real problem with extremism. If only we didn’t have a extreme right federal government, the country might be able to tackle the problem. UK court tells Uber it has employees, not contract workers. Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews threatens to tear up Crown Casino’s license to operate in the state if the recently called Royal Commission into the gambling industry in Victoria deems it necessary. Oil refinery to pivot into the future… better late than never. Tech news on Twitter and Bitcoin. And whatever you do, don’t call him Mr Potato Head. (For Australian listeners, no I’m not talking about Home Affairs Minister and man who should be mashed, Peter Dutton). Cory Talks S03 E06 - Mon 22 Feb 2021
On this edition of Cory Talks… Rape allegations by two former Liberal Party staffers at Australian Parliament House levelled against one former male staffer. What did the Prime Minister Scott Morrison know and when did he know it? His words do not feel believable and if you believe the screenshot of a text message, the Prime Ministers Office knew about one of the allegations for a greater length of time than it has admitted. The COVID-19 vaccine programme is finally rolling out in Australia. The Federal Government says all Aussies who wish to be vaccinated, should be by October. The snap five day lockdown in Victoria was just that – thankfully! This was due to concerns about the more virulent strain of the COVID-19 virus, the UK strain. Now the state is looking to further easing of coronavirus restrictions this week. Western Australian election in less than three weeks time and if you believe Newspoll, the Labor Party under Premier Mark McGowan looks to a massive win. My take on this whole Facebook banning news in Australia thing. I don’t think either of the two (or is that three) players have the upper hand. I think in the end it’s Australian’s who will pay some sort of price for this political point scoring exercise. New silly fad on TikTok. Parler back from the wilderness. For them it’s been a long month. But if you’re new to the unfiltered platform, you might find it hard to join. US President Joe Biden plans to get tough on guns. Good luck Joe when America has such an obsession with guns! (Hey, don’t shoot the messenger). Harry and Meagan are officially out of The Firm. I am in no way interested in Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West, so don’t bother expecting me to mention these media whores on the podcast. More meat for cats. Coke in paper bottles. Cory Talks S03 E05 - Mon 15 Feb 2021
On this edition of Cory Talks… Victoria enters a five-day lockdown to tackle an outbreak of the more virulent UK strain of COVID-19. Greek tennis player departs Australia for South Africa and tests positive for coronavirus upon arrival. Former US President is acquitted for the second time. The voting was ten votes short of convicting Trump for Incitement for Insurrection. Trump vows to continue his fight. Free National Broadband Network upgrades to select Australian locations. Will it actually help. Google launches its News Showcase platform in Australia to try and circumvent government proposal to make Google and Facebook pay for news content they feature. I mention Superbowl LV… don’t expect much more than that! A tennis player at the Australian Open just wanted to pee! Why was the umpire hesitant? Investigations into former Australian Sports Minister, Bridget McKenzie as she faces the Sports Rorts Inquiry. Home Affairs Minister, Peter Dutton is also being looked at for his interference in grants process. New Zealand rolls out the COVID-19 vaccine. So much for Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s claim that Australian’s would be one of the first nations in the world to get the jab. More marketing lies from the King of Promo. A South Australian Koala seems unperturbed by a busy road. The United Arab Emirates looks to Mars for colonisation in the next century. Cory Talks S03 E04
On this edition of Cory Talks… Today (Monday 8 February 2021) was supposed to mark the date that 75% of the Victorian workforce could return to the office, but that was paused thanks to a coronavirus concern related to the UK variant. Anti-conversion law introduced in Victoria, and it’s about time. An Aussie doctor working in the Austrian Alps got the COVID-19 jab and has written a story for ABC News Australia on her friend who she loves dearly, but is an anti-vaxxer. After listening to this episode of the show, come back here and click on this link https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-02-04/vaccine-message-to-anti-vaxxers/13114344?utm_source=abc_news_web&utm_medium=content_shared&utm_content=mail&utm_campaign=abc_news_webto read Rebecca Schoepf’s opinion piece. Alexei Navalny is quite a headache for the Russian establishment. The US President and the technology impediment. Spotify to suggest mood music for you. How do you feel about that? Back from the dead, a social media platform that was apparently a hit here in Australia. I completely missed that! Parler’s hypocrisy as it remains offline, despite a legal bid to make Amazon put the platform back up. As the release of the COVID-19 vaccine draws closer in Australia, many are wondering when they’ll get the jab. While not set in stone, ABC News Australia has put together a little checklist that might give you an insight into the timeframe. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-02-05/when-will-you-get-the-covid-19-vaccine/13112610 Being over 100 years old doesn’t mean you can’t become TikTok famous. Cory Talks S03 E03
On this edition of Cory Talks... The last time I'm going to talk about Australia Day (Invasion Day) this year, I promise. Australian Open heating up for the February 8 start, and I'm talking about the exerted ranting of one American tennis player and his first world problem. Australian Chemists/Pharmacies able to sign up from today (Monday 1 February 2021) to become COVID-19 vaccination points. The European Union being heavy handed on limiting to quantity of inoculations to non-EU countries. It may have an impact on Australia's expected vaccine supplies. GameStop... something that I'd never heard of before has been in the news this past week and Wall Street was not amused. The tax office in Australia is investigating the rorting of the federal government's JobKeeper programme. Intimate contact hotel quarantine breach in New Zealand. NZ Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern was not happy that Australia abruptly halted the Trans Tasman Travel Bubble. New Aussie Trade Minister given the cold shoulder by China. @MarieWalsh18 on Twitter brought some memes to my attention last week in relation to what the Morrison Government has been up to. It may make you as mad as I was. Then again, maybe not if you're so easily taken my Murdoch media propaganda. And paying with your face! Cory Talks S03 E02
On this edition of Cory Talks... America has another chance at regaining their democracy after the inauguration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as President and Vice President of the United States on January 20. The Trump Impeachment (Part Two) is expected to start on February 8. The Australian Open tennis Grand Slam also starts in February and it's had controversy of its own with some professional players acting like spoilt children. Once players girlfriend would make my douche of the week award... if I had such an award to bestow. Australia Day is tomorrow (Tuesday 26th January), it's divided many Australian's for a number of years. Some of Australia's first nations people, see the day as Invasion Day. A time for sorrow and not celebration. A compromise must be sought. One thing I wouldn't compromise on is that tomorrow, former tennis great Margaret Court is expected to be given an Australia Day Honours award. She was a great Australian sportsperson and hero to this country in her time. But now she is a horrid embarrassment to Australian society. Google is still threatening to pull out of the Australian Search Engine market. A Twitter spat for me and a tinfoil hat wearing anti-vaxxer this past week. New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian has been known as "unlucky in love", "koala killer" and now government document shredder. But she need not fear, there's not going to be any consequences. ALL COOL AND NORMAL! American Preachers who supported Trump in his "stolen election" falsehoods expose themselves and the fact there's not a lot of difference between business, politics and religion. Cory Talks S03 E01
On this edition of Cory Talks... Hello there everyone! It's been a while, almost two months in fact since the last edition of the show and I'm picking things up with days before the Inauguration in the US of President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris. It's been a rocky road to January 20, but I don't need to tell American's about that, they've been living it and my thoughts are with all the decent people who have not been taken in by the lies and deflection of the Trump administration. One episode one of season three, I'll look at some of the stuff that's happened in the past 50 plus days. Not only the American election, but also some of the stuff that's been happening in Australia. But let's face it, America has continued to be the focus of the world's attention. It's strange, because out-going President Donald Trump usually likes being the centre of attention. Like nothing's happened the Australian Open tennis is coming to Melbourne. Yes, despite a pandemic, it seems the tennis must play on. At least four people who've flown into Australia for the grand slam have tested positive for COVID-19. Thankfully the quarantine borders for the tennis are holding. Hasn't stopped some players from trying to leave their hotel rooms though. Is it just me, or has Australia's COVIDsafe coronavirus tracing app has gone missing? The sole surviving Golden Girl, Betty White celebrated her 99th birthday on Sunday. It's imperative Betty gets the COVID-19 jab. She absolutely has to make it to her 100th... and then keep going (only if she wants to of course). Should the Australian government really be getting into the divorce prevention arena? According to a report from the tatty News Corp toilet paper propaganda sheet, the government is considering it. Aussie supermarket giant Woolworths will stop accepting cash at select stores from January 25. A Cory Talks topic of discussion that I'd like to hear from you on. Drop me a line via the website. Cory Talks S02 E20
On this edition of Cory Talks... It's the 2020 series finale episode. And it's the longest podcast I've done so far coming in at 67 minutes. Please don't miss this one and certainly do not feel you have to listen to it all at once. There's breaks after around each 20 minutes. While Victoria continues on its path to COVID Normal, not so good news out of South Australia which initiated a brief lockdown this past week. It ended earlier than expected because a man lied to contract tracers about his association with a pizza shop. Still health officials were working hard to bring this outbreak to a swift conclusion. Meantime the inquiry into contract tracing in Victoria has seen disappointment levelled at the Department of Health and Human Services over their handling of contact tracing. Australian Defence Force chief Angus Campbell held a media briefing on Thursday over the damning report into Australian Special Forces members abhorrent actions in Afghanistan. *WARNING* the audio contained in this edition of the podcast will be confronting to some. The media diversity Senate Inquiry is going to happen looking into Rupert Murdoch's influence on the Australian media scene, as the attacks on its two poster children, former Prime Minister's Kevin Rudd and Malcolm Turnbull intensifies. A Melbourne based podcaster claims he "tested the system" by getting someone to forge fake digital signatures for the petition. A $1.2 billion AUD victory for those wrongly assessed by the government as owing money to the nation. Freedom of Information (FoI) documents cast light onto Prime Minister Scott Morrison's mirky past when at Tourism Australia and Tourism New Zealand. Rabid celeb chef Pete Evans gets rebuked for a social media post. A big shout out to a really nice and generous person. Filmmaker and musician Patrick McGuinn sent me five of his films after a compliment on YouTube I posted in reference to one of his films. Hear the story on this episode. This being the final show for 2020, I have not one, not two, but three special guests... Guest: - Grant Baensch (@grantbaensch on most social platforms) joins me to talk about his love of the King, Elvis Presley and a radio show he does in tribute. Cory Talks S02 E18
On this edition of Cory Talks... Multiple media outlets early Sunday morning Australian Time projected Joe Biden to be President-Elect of the United States after securing at least 273 electoral college votes, three more than required to assume the Presidency. President Trump has been doing as much as he could to disrupt the counting and diminish the awesome democratic right American's have. But not all agree with that assessment as you'll hear in this episode. Joe Biden spoke of hope on Saturday. This was around twelve hours before he was projected to be the next President. As of Saturday, Victoria had recorded eight straight days of double doughnuts - that's eight consecutive days of zero new cases of COVID-19 and zero deaths in the garden state. The Inquiry into the bungled hotel quarantine system in Victoria is being finalised. There are 69 recommendations and they will be delivered to the Governor General of Victoria. We await the public release. Former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's call for a Royal Commission to look into the control Rupert Murdoch's News Corp has over the Australian media landscape recorded a record number of petition signatures from Australian's. The petition will be submitted shortly to the Australian Parliament. New Zealand to open up to Melbourne. Queensland hopefully to open up to Victoria by Christmas. Clive Palmer has his legal challenge to Western Australia's lockdown dismissed. Now the fatuous self-obsessed tool has to pay WA's legal fees! Peta Credlin's Sky News Australia documentary that targeted Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews falls flat on facts... and interest. The death of an Australian swimming great. Cory Talks S02 E17
On this edition of Cory Talks... On this special episode, the focus is on the American election. What a result... well maybe... to be honest I don't know because at the time of typing this, votes were still being counted. There you go, honesty OF politics, not honesty IN politics. At the time of typing this, Joe Biden was in front in the Electoral College votes, 203 to 103. While actual votes for the Republicans and Trump are slightly ahead (at 12:47pm AEDT). Disturbing news on the COVID-19 figures in the United Kingdom. Five doughnut day for Victoria with five consecutive days of zero new cases of coronavirus and no deaths. The border between Victoria and New South Wales will end later this month. The CEO of Australia Post has stepped down over the Cartier watches scandal. Cory Talks S02 E14
On this edition of Cory Talks... Despite a resurgence of COVID-19 cases in the northern suburbs of Melbourne and protests at the capital's Shire of Remembrance, Victoria should still expect some further restrictions removed from the states lockdown. Time for the Chief of Australia Post to step down after a Senate Estimates inquiry. Victorian Hotel Quarantine guard speaks out. The final Presidential Debate for 2020 was not so much about fireworks from the mouth of Trump. Quite astonishing that the Pres pretty much kept his cool. The Foxtel rort. Another reason why a Royal Commission into Rupert Murdoch's News Corp which own's 65% of Foxtel, should get off the ground. What's up with the Vatican sending money to Melbourne to defend Cardinal George Pell? What's Trump's Twitter password. Did the President pull a Vodafone? (Throw back to a couple of years ago when Vodafone's Customer Database password was... password). Reminder that Tracey McGee and Grant Baensch join me on episode 15 (Wednesday 28thOctober) with a wrap up of this weekend's Grand Finals in the AFL and NRL. Cory Talks S02 E12
On this edition of Cory Talks... The New Zealand election and a stunning result for Jacinda Ardern's Labour Party with a mandate to lead the country for the next three years. It's the first election win in 25 years where a single party has received enough votes to lead without the support of another party. Also election for Labor in the ACT (Australian Capital Territory). The Labor party has been in power in the nations capital for almost two decades. The Victorian Liberal Party have a plan for COVID-19... finally. But is it too late with the states positive cases continuing to fall? The US Town Hall Presidential Debates. The President on NBC and Biden on ABC. We all know how much ratings are important to the Orange Idiot, so he's probably not going to like that more people watched the Democrat nominee. What does copper and COVID-19 have to do with each other? The answer might surprise. Rupert Murdoch's attack drone, Peta Credlin tries standover tactics on the Victorian Premier... which fail, and she was not happy. Police looking into someone who's caused a COVID-19 panic in two regional Victorian locations. And a nice political story to end with. Yes I know, good and politics are not words that are at all expected to co-exist. Cory Talks S02 E11
On this edition of Cory Talks... With just a few weeks to the Queensland election as donations scandal has hit that states opposition party leader, Deb Frecklington. I should create a new segment called, stupid sh*t the US President says because this week through either drugs or his natural, perhaps unnatural lack of sense has made him say lots of kooky stuff. To borrow a saying from the Orange Idiot, "you're not going to believe it". New Zealanders prepare for their General election this weekend. No huge gaffes to report there thankfully. Anger that some university course costs to go up. One independent pollie fears it will put higher education out of the reach of many. Former Abbott Government attack dog, Peta Credlin drops a truth bomb. How politics almost makes telling bald faced lies palatable. The hoped for major easing of lockdown restrictions in Victoria from Monday seems destine to disappoint like an episode of Channel 10's The Bachelorette. The flattening of the COVID-19 curve has not progressed as well as expected, while some still think getting back to normal right now is a good idea. Seems like there might be a correlation between the two. New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian has confessed at an inquiry of being in a relationship with a fellow MP she sacked for corruption. But because she's a Liberal Premier, the media goes easy on her saying it's a personal matter. The hypocrites ignore that she'd lied. Apple launches yet another series of expensive iPhone's... yes, I'll probably buy one. Pre-ordering starts at the weird time of 11pm this Friday (AEDT). Plus how to get around a hacked sex toy. Well it's the 21st century, so obviously hackers are targeting adult products.
