Lesley talks about her novel The Land of Trees, deforestation and the Guatemalan Peace Accords. The co-hosts discuss loss on many levels: loss of life, trees, the subsequent spiritual loss of connection and loss of homes and crops. Hasina explains the importance of the ‘need-to-know’ of everything surrounding a death, in order to process and understand how and why it could have happened.

Lesley talks about life as a young adult, first in Guatemala when the country was emerging from a civil war, then in East London in the U.K. She talks about her first loss and the aspects of death that make us uneasy or reluctant to talk about it. Hasina talks about the death of her brother, Arun Zaman aka Sam, the musician and pioneer of the Asian Underground known as State of Bengal.
