#49 Private Call!
Dr. Snuggles and friends return for episode 49 of your guide to the truly astonishing world of softcore films, and the world’s number one podcast on that subject! A while back, we realised we missed watching one of the genre’s all time greats work, so we dug up another Robert Donavan classic: 2001’s Private Call, aka Deviant Desires! Donavan plays Max Diamond, the by-the-books partner to Detective Shane Miller (Miyoko Fujimori, aka Flower), a cop who just can’t let the murder of a sex worker named Jennifer go, and gets suspended for it. But even then she continues investigating, going undercover at a mysterious club named Private Call! It’s an all-star affair: the prolific Brad Bartram is there too, it’s directed by legendary hardcore star/producer/director Melissa Monet, and it’s written by The Power Couple of ‘90s and 2000s softcore, Ed Gorsuch and April White! But does it live up to the hype? Plus, we talk about the life and career of the great Miyoko Fujimori! She’s done it all: real estate agent, stripper, model actor, author, sex toy designer, pole fitness and AcroYoga instructor, and intimacy choreographer! Also, with a little luck, future guest on an episode of Get Soft! Hey, why not call us on our hotline? (724) 246-4669! Check out the other Compañeros Radio Network shows: Movie Melt Songs on Trial

#48 Spaced Out!
Dr. Snuggles and friends return for episode 48 of your guide to the truly astonishing world of softcore films, and the world’s number one podcast on that subject! We’re spaceward bound this episode, checking out Norman J. Warren’s 1979 interstellar softcore comedy Spaced Out! It’s wildly British (written by the guy who went on to create Pie in the Sky, in which Richard Griffiths was a semi-retired copper who also ran a restaurant - classic stuff) though stars an Australian, a Canadian, and a Hungarian as three goofy aliens, who have sequins for eyebrows. Bonus: one of them is the unforgettable Glory Annen, from Felicity! And as is befitting a saucy British comedy of the time, it’s packed with innuendo, has a pretty fair smattering of sexism, but also maybe rejects this and heroises the sensitive, emotionally intelligent lad instead? We try to puzzle that one out. Plus, we talk about the life and times of the one and only Dr Ava Cadell, who plays alien engineer Partha! She was a refugee of the Hungarian revolution before she was even two years old, and then almost became a nun. But, of course, she didn’t - she became a successful model and actor, and a world renowned Sexologist! Now she runs online sex coach training school Loveology University - good ol’ Love U’! Ava, if you’re reading this, you gotta make letterman jackets. You’ll sell thousands! Hey, why not call us on our hotline? (724) 246-4669! #47 Hot Springs Hotel episodes 1-3!
Dr. Snuggles and friends return for episode 47 of your guide to the truly astonishing world of softcore films, and the world’s number one podcast on that subject! It’s time for our next big project, and this time we’re heading to the world of late ‘90s softcore TV, with James Dudelson’s Hot Springs Hotel, and we check out the first three episodes: Money Trouble, Cheerleaders, and Travels with Travis. It’s the story of two siblings, Randy and Kat, living in a flat - all by themselves. Then one day they get a telegram, which tells them that their Aunt Betty had passed away, and they they should come and run her hotel. Her Hot Springs Hotel. Hot Springs Hotel. Once you hear the theme song, you’ll never be able to get it out of your head. Sorry about that. Plus, we talk about the life and times of its star, the great Samantha Phillips: actor, model, radio talk show host, reality TV host, and film producer! She was in Phantasm II and said she didn’t really get it at the time (understandable, honestly) and also did music videos for everyone from Van Halen and Mötley Crüe to Simply Red and Weird Al! Also: literally has not aged in 25 years. Hey, why not call us on our hotline? (724) 246-4669! Check out the other Compañeros Radio Network shows: Movie Melt Songs on Trial

#46 Scorned!
Dr. Snuggles and friends return for episode 46 of your guide to the truly astonishing world of softcore films, and the world’s number one podcast on that subject! This week, Anthony from fantastic looking erotic thriller documentary We Kill for Love is our special guest once again, and we check out 1993’s erotic revenge thriller masterpiece, Scorned - starring and directed by the legendary Andrew Stevens. Fun fact: Scorned is the only DTV erotic thriller available on blu-ray at this time. Granted, it’s only available as a very limited release (2 covers with 250 copies each), and only in Germany, but it looks stunning, and as a bonus comes with a 20 page booklet which is entirely in German (so could honestly say anything). The plot is bananas - wife of suicided man tries to take revenge on the guy who got a promotion ahead of him by seducing him, his son and wife - but it’s enormous fun, and stars iconic queen of ‘90s softcore Shannon Tweed! How have we made it 46 episodes without doing either an Andrew Stevens or Shannon Tweed movie?! Naturally, instead of talking about the careers of either of those two legends, we talk about the life and times of its writer, Barry Avrich. This was Avrich’s one dip into the erotic thriller genre, but he’s a big name in the world of Canadian advertising, and also a big name in the world of biographical documentaries (particularly Canadian-focused ones). He also wrote a 400 page autobiography, although weirdly he doesn’t mention Scorned once in it. Hey, why not call us on our hotline? (724)2GO-GO69 or (724) 246-4669!

#45 Bikini Summer III: South Beach Heat!
Dr. Snuggles and friends return for episode 45 of Get Soft, your guide to the truly astonishing world of softcore films, and the world’s number one podcast on that subject! It's the finale of Get Soft’s Bikini Summer Summer, as we take on 1997’s Bikini Summer III: South Beach Heat! This time the action moves from LA across to Miami, and the plot goes from oddly ambitious in the last one to what might charitably be described as threadbare. Jamie, a makeup artist for a bikini contest, ends up competing, even though she insists she’s more interested in painting than posing and doesn’t have the body for it anyway. Given Jamie is played by actual former bikini model Heather Elizabeth Parkhurst, you can probably guess where it’s going. What you might not have seen coming is the scummy undercurrent of homophobia (through what is honestly a very offensive caricature) and uncomfortable sexism (although probably the sexism might be sort of expected, who knows). It’s a weird one, but if you start watching a series you simply cannot not watch every film. It’s the law. Also, everyone’s favourite, Jim Ether joins us, and for some reason this episode is 2 and a half hours long. It’s not entirely clear why. And, we look at the life and career of star and associate producer Heather Elizabeth Parkhurst! She was in Sherman Oaks, she was a member of the Swedish Bikini Team, and she had guest spots on a bunch of TV shows ranging from fondly remembered (Married...with Children, Get a Life, The George Carlin Show) to barely remembered (Top of the Heap, Rachel Gunn R.N., That Was Then). Also she was the titular Lisa in the video for Pauly Shore’s hit (?) single Lisa Lisa in 1991. We listen to it. It’s worse than you remember. Hey, why not call us on our hotline? (724) 2GO-GO69 or (724) 246-4669!

#44 Bikini Summer II!
Dr. Snuggles and friends return for episode 44 of Get Soft, your guide to the truly astonishing world of softcore films, and the world’s number one podcast on that subject! Get Soft’s Bikini Summer Summer continues, with the second film in the series, which is very reasonably titled Bikini Summer II. Does it follow on from the first Bikini Summer in any way? No it does not, but it is based on a story by and directed by the one and only Jeff Conaway! This is his one and only directorial effort, and it is also spellbindingly weird. It’s all about a homeless troubadour played by Robert Miano, who teaches a couple of rich girls about the important things in life: friendship and selflessness. So it’s kind of a heartwarming anti-capitalist tale, but also there’s weird sketch comedy moments, and also numerous comedy BDSM moments, and a lot of singing and a rock concert at the end. Where do the bikinis fit in? They kind of don’t. It confused the heck out of everyone, that’s for dang sure. Of course, we talk about the life and times of the legend himself, Jeff Conaway. We talk a lot about Jeff Conaway, but there’s a lot to say about him, so that makes sense. We talk about the big hits, the not so big hits, the leaner years in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, and we talk about his numerous musical projects, most of which are truly awesome. He had a single in 1979 that you have to check out: it’s called City Boy and it’s a straight up killer jam. Hey, why not call us on our hotline? (724) 2GO-GO69 or (724) 246-4669!

#43 Bikini Summer!
Dr. Snuggles and friends return for episode 43 of Get Soft, your guide to the truly astonishing world of softcore films, and the world’s number one podcast on that subject! For various reasons, we inadvertently took a month and a half break, but never fear - we’re back, and we’re going straight into a hugely innovative series of special episodes! So here’s the deal: it’s summer down under, and we’re going to do the three movies in the Bikini Summer series! Incredible, right? Right. This time we’re joined by a bunch of antipodean special guests (including Jaymz from NBA 'Straya podcast, and Josh from the band Househats), and we check out where it all began, back in 1991, with the first film in the series. David Millbern (from Midnight Confessions!) is there, and so is Hollywood body double superstar Shelley Michelle, and also porn star Missy Warner, who seems to turn up in a lot of these films. In this entry, some friends have to try and save a beach from greedy developers by staging a bikini contest. And...that’s kind of it, really. Also, we check out the life and times of Katherine Victor, who is in the film for literally a minute, so that proved kind of a controversial choice. She has a long and storied career though - working repeatedly with Jerry Warren against her better judgement, most notable in The Wild World of Batwoman, but also as an animation continuity checker, with legends like Friz Freleng, Ralph Bakshi and Don Bluth, and on that one Chipmunks movie where they raced the Chipettes around the world in hot air balloons. You know the one. Hey, why not call us on our hotline? (724) 2GO-GO69 or (724) 246-4669!
