Episode 2 - Mindfulness Practice
What if you just done? You have just engaged in a mindfulness practice, which involved the following: – · You purposefully picked an “object of attention” to help towards anchoring your current awareness in a present moment experience, and simultaneously observed what went through your mind, body and heart. · Most likely, much of what you observed would reflect some of the elements of your everyday experience, such as distraction, desire, aversion, restlessness, doubt, or boredom. · Yet there may have also been moments of just seeing – this is what is meant by mindfulness “practice”. · It is called a practice because when we do it in a consistent fashion, we get multiple opportunities to practice with the “stuff of life”. Over time we can gently shift our relationship to this “stuff” & learn in a safe, gradual, self-paced way how to respond – instead of just reacting – to the habits and “frequent flyers” of our mind. In this way we will learn to cultivate choice and develop a greater sense of efficacy and balance our lives. In this very down to earth way therefore, we will: – · Gradually restore a healthy, friendly relationship with ourselves, and begin to feel less alienated and isolated from ourselves and others, and in the process reconnect to our own deep wisdom and creativity. · This practice is an inner journey, and if properly done is perhaps the most important journey of our lives – it is very well expressed in this thought: “Of what use is it that we can travel to the moon, if we cannot cross the abyss that separates us from ourselves?”. It is important to be cognisant of the fact that this is not just one more self-improvement exercise. Mindfulness offers much more: – · It is a way of simply coming to know yourself as never before, and as things are, moment by moment. · Opening yourself to the wisdom that naturally arises when one cultivates a compassionate curiosity towards your human experience. · Above all, it is a path of the heart – a practice of loving awareness – that offers to hold any and all of your experiences in a compassionate, spacious embrace. So, it is up to you now, so let your heart guide you through the practices and reflections that we are offering, in each of your precious moments, beginning here, beginning now.

A DOWN-TO-EARTH INTRODUCTION TO THE PRACTICE AND BENEFITS OF MINDFULNESS. Mindfulness can be described in many ways: – · It is a practice of purposefully paying attention in the present moment and bringing a non-judgemental, compassionate awareness to the nature of things around us. · It is a way of being, a way of relating to our inner & outer experiences, and of coming to of our senses, literally and figuratively. · At the same time, it is nothing at all, nothing but a rediscovery or a remembering of our natural, inborn capacity to be fully awake in our lives, in contact with things in a direct way without the filters & concepts, past experiences, or likes and dislikes. In essence, it is so simple, and indeed down earth that this way of seeing is immediately available to us. Try it now if you wish: · Let your eyes move away from this page and your gaze onto something nearby – the back of a chair, a shoe or the carpet. · Offer it bare attention - seeing it as if for the first time – and therefore totally new to your gaze. · Softly, notice its shape, colour, texture, and the space it occupies. · Practising further, you might also notice thoughts crossing your mind, your attention wandering to something else, or feelings arising in response to your sensory contact with the object in view. · Simply come back again to this chosen spot, again and again, to a direct experience of the object or area you have chosen. So what can personal coaching achieve for you?
Going back to the early forms of transportation, i.e. Stagecoach or rail coach, the word ‘coaching’ literally means to transport someone from one place to another. In today’s context, one thing that all forms of coaching seem to have in common is that many people are using it to help them move forward or create change. Put simply, coaching is a conversation, or series of conversations, that one person has with another. The person who is doing the coaching tends to produce a conversation that will benefit the other person (the coachee) in a way that relates to the coachee’s learning and progress. A coaching conversation might happen in many different ways and in many different environments. Coaching has many different forms or expressions, within many different areas of human activity. Coaching covers many areas: sport, music, relationships, voice, writing & time-management, to name but a few. It appears that whatever you might be doing, there is a coach out there to help you do it!

Valuing differences and diversity in the workplace every unique employee brings his or her unique self into the workplace. Therefore it is important that this uniqueness is recognised, accepted, and valued by peers, leaders and subordinates, just as it is important for an employee to value the uniqueness of others as well. These differences provide a range of skills and abilities the team can tap into to become self sufficient and successful.An organisation actually needs new and different ideas to stay ahead of the competition and to survive. In making decisions and finding solutions to problems, it is always important to look at across a wide front.

Dealing Effectively with Anger from Others at Work and Home
When anger raises it's potentially ugly head, it can occur in a variety of scenarios, including the home, at social occasions, at work between employees, and then from angry customers. Because it usually happens so quickly, and without warning, the responses can range from confusion , through being defensive, to corresponding anger. All of us will agree that, anger, when encountered and coming from others, is inevitably a highly uncomfortable human emotion, not unlike the sensation of a lion roaring close by and the hair on the back of our neck rising, harking back to our pre-historic roots. The good news though, is that most anger can be managed. The secret is to deal with it very quickly with an attitude that projects to the protagonist as your being readily able to solve the problem in hand, and not to allow it to escalate to an unmanageable level.
