Traversing Genres & NFTs With Kush Jones
For Episode 37 we meet the inimitable @Kush_Jones.The Bronx native and producer is blowing up in the Electronic dance music scene for his sound that’s rooted in Chicago’s seismic and kinetic vibration of Footwork. But we’d be remiss to label Kush as just a Footwork artist. As a member of the Juke Bounce Werk collective, Kush’s music shapeshifts every project, drawing elements of Jungle, House, and Acid, all while keeping your feet moving.Kush is on a mission. Since 2018, the seminal producer has been churning out his genre traversing Strictly 4 My CDJZ series that showcases exactly what he’s all about, and with 12 down so far, we’re in for a ride because he plans on dropping 40 altogether. However, even with his music skyrocketing to new heights, Kush remains humble, often seen as a voice of reason within the dance music community for voicing his opinions on the systemic barriers still in place for many artists of color in the industry.Kush talks about his musical upbringing, why NFT’s could change the game for artists, and the driving force behind his impeccable work ethic.~ TracklistJill - By Kush JonesDANCE MUSIC TOOL - By Kush Jones ACIDIC - By Kush Jones Make It Make Sense - By Kush Jones Barebelly - By Kush Jones Ganza - By Kush Jones Dancing - By Kush Jones Ari Dub - By Kush Jones Follow Kush Jones - https://kushjones.bandcamp.com/Follow Club Management - linktr.ee/ClubManagementSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/clubmanagement1)

An Ode To Black Trans Lives With TYGAPAW
INTERVIEW BEGINS AT 8:40 Episode 24 of Club Management has arrived and this time we welcome producer, nightlife curator and label boss, Dion McKenzie to the show. You might know her as @TYGAPAW, the NYC DJ and producer that’s smashing the societal confines of the patriarchy one beat at a time. She’s a core figure within NYC’s LGBTQ nightlife community as the creator of @FakeAccent, a label and party that is notoriously dedicated to incredible music as well as a home for black, brown and the LGBTQIA+ community to perform and be themselves. Deeply inspired from Dion’s Jamaican roots and her experience living as an immigrant in NYC, Fake Accent gives a platform and home to black, queer and non-binary artists to release music and art. For Dion, Fake Accent was a way for her to create a little taste of home after she left Jamaica in 2002 to attend Parsons in NYC. The move also served as an escape from the painful reminder of Jamaica’s cultural issues with homophobia and misogyny. For Dion, coming to terms and learning to love her own queerness, she found roots in NYC and a space to truly be herself. In this episode, Shannon speaks with TYGAPAW about her musical journey, how to empower yourself through identity and the state of unrest currently with violence and police brutality. She also shares her thoughts on how these societal issues impact the Trans community. In addition, TYGAPAW sheds light on her new project "Ode To Black Trans Lives", a 3 track stellar EP that melds breakbeat rhythms and industrial clashes to shed light on the policing of the Black Trans community. The Darkside Of The Digital Domain With DeForrest Brown, Jr. & MWA
Episode 20 is here. In this show, we explore the dark side of the digital domain and what artists need to consider before sharing some of their music and content on platforms like Instagram, Facebook and Twitch. The pandemic has caused an enormous amount of uncertainty for everyone but for DJ's and musicians who make most of their income from touring and live performance, this pandemic has been completely catastrophic. Mix this in with the burden of the Pandemic Unemployment Assistances' slow application and payment process, and the situation becomes dire. Some people still haven’t even received an ounce of their benefits. How do creatives pay for rent during this time? How do they live? Shannon chats with Phillip Golub, Olympia Kazi and Marc Ribot of The Music Workers Alliance on some of the solutions they have been trying to create and pass down to congress to help DJs and musicians find financial relief and economic justice within the digital music space. Streaming platforms like Spotify and Youtube could be a vital way for musicians to make more income, especially during this time. However with dodgy algorithms and inequities within the way streams are accounted for, artists are having a rough time seeing a fair cut from the music they host on these sites. DeForrest Brown Jr. who produces music under the name Speaker Music, shares his thoughts on the state of the music world. DeForrest breaks down an article he wrote for Medium entitled “How Platform Capitalism Devalued The Music Industry” and many of the themes within his writing are echoing the chilling state of the industry now. He also chats with Shannon about his latest project Of Desire Longing and the ethos behind his clothing label Make Techno Black Again, a brand he designed to reclaim and honor the African American House and Techno pioneers who founded and have created an historic imprint on the genre. Chengdu Rising and The Future Of Live Streaming
In episode 19, Shannon takes a look into how the music industry in China is having to readjust and pivot post Covid. She also explores the safety precautions clubs are taking now that dance floors are open for partying. With Chengdu rising out of lockdown, owners Choo and Big Loco from Axis Club and Aymen who organizes the International bookings at the legendary .TAG, chat with Shannon about what the new normal looks for them in nightlife and what the future has in store for them post COVID-19. With mass travel ban restrictions in place for countries around the world, musicians, DJ’s and artists have lost their ability to tour internationally, which is a vital revenue stream for both clubs and talent. Luckily, livestreaming has become a great solution for everyone. Now, talent can be broadcasted from their bedroom or even from inside an empty club for fans to stay connected and party. It’s also been a lucrative way for DJ’s and musicians to receive income as fans can donate money to talent during the event. What else can be done with livestreaming technology to create a fun and interactive club experience for folks in lockdown until we can return to the dance floor here in America? Travis Scott’s recent VR tour with gaming platform Fornite was literally “astronomical” as fans could listen to the rapper perform songs in real time while they danced and interacted with other players. Could partying in augmented realities be the near future for dance floors globally? Patrick McGowan who owns TechSound, a sound engineering and live event coordination company in Shanghai, chimes in on what he’s been doing with his team in bringing innovation and technology to nightlife clubs.
