My First Year In Sim Racing: or Sim Racing and Dealing with Long Term Loss
BONUS EPISODE
The hardest thing about making this piece, by far, was hitting the publish button.
NOTE: There's also a video version of this if you'd rather just listen. Just follow the link to our YouTube channel here.
----------
A year ago I made a fairly biographical piece about finding sim-racing and how it helped through the beginning of lockdown. I also touched on my father's life as a racer and how I felt about sim racing through that lens.
This is a follow-up video, one year on. In it, I talk about how wonderful it's been to dive deeper into sim racing over the last 12 months and - bizarrely - how it's helped me deal with something I've struggled with for 19 years; the loss of my father, and how that tinged my enjoyment of motorsport.
The past 12 months (13 months really, as the video was made one month into my journey) have been great. I truly believe that sim-racing is an incredible hobby, even a vocation. It's helped put me back in touch, in a way, with memories of my dad, in a pain-free way; and for that, I'm eternally grateful.
