Talking Horror With Dutch Marich (Horror In The High Desert)
Welcome back to another episode of ClassHorrorCast, I'm your host Aran and on this week's episode, I am joined by none other than filmmaker Dutch Marich!Dutch always had an interest and passion for film, he finally took the next step and actually pursued his dream of being an actor when he moved to Los Angeles at 17 and studied in the world-renowned "American Academy of Dramatic Arts" from which he graduated in 2005.As he began to study and dive deeper and deeper into the film industry he realized that his passion lay in creating the worlds within the films and seeing his visions come to life. We get into his start with his first movie Bleed Out in 2011 and his journey which has seen him create some incredible and unique movies based on real-life situations but he manages to put his terrifying twist on them!He has explored the horrors behind geo-caching in Hunting (2015) some horrifying visuals in the homeless situation in LA in Miserable Sinners (2018) to him exploring a real-life phenomenon of 'the hum' in Infernum (2019).Having always been fascinated by unsolved disappearances, Dutch then flipped the pandemic situation into a huge positive for his career and created Horror In The High Desert in 2021. A feature which he wrote, directed, produced, and edited himself. If you are a fan of unsolved cases, found footage, or just great and immersive storytelling in general then please check this movie out.In July 2017, an experienced outdoor enthusiast vanished in Northern Nevada while on an outdoor excursion. After an extensive search, he was never located. On the three-year anniversary of his disappearance, friends and loved ones recall the events leading up to his vanishing, and for the first time, speak about the horrifying conclusion of his fate. The movie received a huge response online among audiences and I can say it replicated the feeling I had seeing The Blair Witch Project for the first time! The exciting part about this is that Dutch already has an entire universe built and will follow up early this year with Horror In The High Desert 2: Minerva which will follow another terrifying case.BUT fear not as he has already got some of the direct sequel to part 1 filmed and plans on releasing it later this year with 2 other follow on movies which will all culminate in an incredible 5-part franchise which he plans to turn into a blu-ray boxset for all the physical media lovers out there.Dutch is a fantastic filmmaker and all-around great guy! Talking Horror With William Malone (House On Haunted Hill 1999, FearDotCom,Tales From The Crypt )
In this week's episode, I chat with true horror royalty! Inspired with film-making during weekly trips to the theatre to see the latest horror releases, by age 14 William Malone was making home movies and designing monster masks. At 19, he moved to Los Angeles to become and rockstar but a friend's request led him to work for Don Post Studios and it was in fact William who sculpted the Captain Kirk mask which eventually became the Michale Myers mask in Halloween 1978.After attending UCLA to study directing, he wrote and directed Scared To Death and followed a few years later in 1985 with Creature. For over a decade after he directed episodes of hit shows such as Freddy's Nightmares, Tales From The Crypt, Honey I Shrunk The Kids, and Sleepwalkers. In 1999, Joel Silver and Robert Zemeckis approached William under their newly formed company 'Dark Castle Entertainment' and asked him to direct a remake of the 1959 William Castle film 'House On Haunted Hill'. The film has since become a cult classic and put William among horror royalty. In 2002, he returned with FearDotCom which has since gained a huge following among the horror community. Upon the request of Mick Garris, William directed an episode of Masters Of Horror in 2006 called "The Fair-Haired Child". The Story Behind The Screams Ep.04 - The Hills Have Eyes / Sawney Bean Clan
Each week we take a look at the real-life inspirations behind some of our favorite horror movies. All the way from huge blockbuster horror movies to some lesser-known cult classics and the terrifying real-life stories that inspired them. This week we take a look at another Wes Craven classic with The Hills Have Eyes(1977) it’s sequel in 1984 and their remakes in 2006 and 2007. While initially watching these movies you may think there is no way that it could be based in reality.. the movie takes inspiration from some real-life events. Directed by Wes Craven, starring the likes of Dee Wallace and Michael Berryman. The movie follows a family on their way to California take a shortcut through a military nuclear testing range when their car breaks down, stranded in the desert they soon come face to face with a cannibalistic family that lives in the hills. There are many reports on this story and it’s never been proven to be 100% true and factual. Sawney Bean is a legendary Scottish cannibal said to have lived with his inbred family around the Galloway hills in Scotland where he would hunt down and murder innocent passersby and take them back to his hideout to feast on their flesh. The legend of Sawney Bean is questionable but has remained one of Scotland's most popular ghost stories nonetheless. It is said that he and his clan killed over 1000 people over their lifetime which includes bodies they dug up from graveyards...if this were true he would be one of the most prolific serial killers of all time.If you enjoyed this episode please subscribe and review the podcast!Follow all my content by clicking on this link - https://linktr.ee/FirstClassHorror
