S1 / E4: Odysseys
Welcome to the final episode of Citizen Jane: Season One! Odysseys are epic(in the real old school sense) journeys. The standard epic hero (a flawed dude w/many muscles, natch) goes on many adventures, has his fortune upended several times, does some heroic stuff, and returns home in the end. We're oversimplifying here, of course (don't @ us, Milton stans), but: epics are highly individualistic genres that follow a single hero whose heroic adventures will impact his whole society. Gendered pronouns here used intentionally. Odysseys in particular require said hero to return home, like Odysseus does to Penelope. In this episode, we follow three characters who venture on odysseys that transform the genre in fascinating, moving ways: Sin-dee and Alexandra in 2015's Tangerine and Ree in 2005's Winter's Bone. We ask one another a bunch of questions like: What does an odyssey look like if you're not a cisgendered white dude? What does it mean to return "home" if your home is perilous or diffuse? What does "returning home" look like when you're a poor white teenager in rural Appalachia or a Black sex worker in Los Angeles' Hollywood neighbourhood? How do we even talk about an "odyssey"--a genre with a dude's name IN THE TITLE--without feeding right back into bullshit narratives about heroism? Do you have thoughts on non-hegemonic odysseys? We really want to hear about it: instagram.com/citizenjanepod twitter.com/citizenjanepod citizenjanepodcast@gmail.com rate us on itunes, we think? we still don't know why that's a thing we should want. tbh we probably won't look it up. but all the other pods ask for it so why not! give us a star or two.

S1 / E3.5: For Your Consideration... Underworld
Welcome to our third "For Your Consideration" minisode, where one of us champions a movie that has either been unfairly maligned or has fallen into woeful obscurity. In this FYC, Dancy waxes poetic about Death Dealers and lycans in what is essentially the movie equivalent of an Evanescence cover band: UNDERWORLD, 2003's masterpiece starring Kate Beckinsale and a bunch of other people who pale in comparison to Kate. As we talk about the badass action scenes and surprisingly ok politics of Underworld, we fall into a conversation that we'll likely return to many times over the course of this pod project (#podproj): when something feels "cool," what part of our brain is it scratching? Do you love Underworld, or are you more of a True Blood fan? Let us know! Follow us! Email Us! Hit us up on the GRAM: www.instagram.com/citizenjanepod

S1 / E3: Action Movies
Action moves are a good-ass time. They truly are. Explosions? Improbably stunts? Mysteriously stretchy leather clothing? GIVE IT TO US. Our taste in action movies is very specific. When we like something, we LOVE it. And when we don't like something, we feel frustrated by it. Mission Impossible: Fallout? LOVE it. Charlies Angels: Full Throttle? ...not so much. (Except Ronnie, who inexplicably DOES like Charlie's Angel's. but she's not here writing this, so TOO BAD) What makes an action movie compelling? Can we reconcile our feminist politics with the hyper-masculine genre? Have you seen that scene in Fallout where Tom Cruise breaks his ankle? Join us as we dig deep into the intricacies of car chases, mysterious encoded messages, rooftop karate, and moments where someone pulls a knife our of their boot and throws it across a room and it stops exactly in front of someone else's face and then there's a weird knowing look like "oh yeah i just did that i'm a knife maestro".... Do you have thoughts on action movies? WE WANT EM: instagram.com/citizenjanepod twitter.com/citizenjanepod citizenjanepodcast@gmail.com rate us on itunes, we think? honestly not totally sure what that's meant to do, but all the other pods ask it so. why not. give us a star or two.

S1 / E2.5: For Your Consideration.... The Bachelorette
Welcome to our second "For Your Consideration" minisode, where one of us champions a movie that has either been unfairly maligned or has fallen into woeful obscurity. In this FYC, Ron gets on the soapbox for the greatest reality tv show of our time: The Bachelorette. What does a reality tv show where thirty personal trainers compete for the chance to be rejected by a women armed with red roses have to do with Mr Darcy staring longingly at Elizabeth Bennet across a crowded room? well for starters, we watch both of these while drinking a lot of wine and yelling at the tv. but that's not all... take a listen to hear Ronnie go to bat for the Bachelorette. S1 / E2: Period Pieces
We love period piece movies. We loooooove them, like "speedily drink four glasses of wine and monologue about Darcy staring at Elizabeth across the room" love them. Like "have categorized every love interest in our life according to their Darcy/Wickham/Thornton/Bingley alignment" love them. Like "one of us maybe is getting a PhD in Victorian literature because of them" love them. Like "we know which 'side' Colin Firth dresses on in that movie" love them. But we're also curious about WHY we love them: these aren't movies that present visions of the world that feel that great to any of us. The clothes we admire on Margaret Hale were probably out of this world uncomfortable. And honestly Mr. Darcy probably bathed rarely and thus smelled really bad. So: why???? What is it about this genre that is so compelling? On this episode, we really get into it. We watch 1995's Pride and Prejudice, 2004's North and South, and 2013's Belle and we drink many bottles of wine in order to open communication between our superegos and the alarming id opinion that still thinks dresses with corsets look like a nice option. Hit us up. We definitely want to hear what you think about this one: instagram.com/citizenjanepod twitter.com/citizenjanepod citizenjanepodcast@gmail.com

Consider... Your Hosts?
we've heard from a few of ya that a little "intro to the hosts" would be a nice treat. let it not be said of us that we did not rise to the occasion when the occasion demanded it! we are nothing if not gracious pod overlords!!! here's little snack-sized "intro to the hosts" episode. as per our truths, we engage in an outdated meme and some personal categorization à la buzzfeed quizzes and the back of jump! magazine. hit us up: instagram.com/citizenjanepod twitter.com/citizenjane pod citizenjanepodcast@gmail.com
