Christianity Demystified Episode 101 - Amen
Show notesIn this episode I explore what the word ‘amen’ means.Though it’s something we say regularly and often in church life, how often do we stop to think about what it actually means? The word ‘amen’ is found throughout Scripture - as early as the book of Numbers - and is the final word of the book of Revelation. It’s found in the original Hebrew, the Greek and the Aramaic texts virtually unchanged in form and function. It’s a word which has made its way into the lexicon of many contemporary languages - English being no exception. The original meaning of the word might be understood as being ‘let it be so’ - an agreement on the part of the person saying it to what has been brought beforehand. And so, perhaps we need to rethink our tendency to simply respond with our own ‘amen’ whenever we hear it being spoken?Helpful linksBible study tools has a really useful overview here: https://www.biblestudytools.com/dictionary/amen/You can also find a link to every use of the word by using BST’s online concordance: https://www.biblestudytools.com/concordances/strongs-exhaustive-concordance/And to find out more about Ivan Pavlov check out his biography on the Nobel prize site: https://www.nobelprize.org/prizes/medicine/1904/pavlov/biographical/
