#004 CC PodCoasting - SLO Gran Fondo Cycling Fest & Seaweed Express
A breathtaking and challenging timed cycling tour of the San Luis Obispo County coast and wine country backroads returns to Avila Beach on Oct. 29th and 30th. Samantha Pruitt, Race SLO CEO, talks about the classic fall event and what to expect. The Italian themed festival starts on Saturday with Pro Panel featuring Alison Tetrick, Bob Roll, Bob Stapelton. Sunday’s cycling event includes three timed routes from 25 up to 100 miles; free bike valet with drop bags, washing tents and massage and Italian festival of food, wine, craft beer & music; Hearst Cancer Resource Center and ALPHA Foundation local the beneficiaries. It all takes place on or near the Avila Beach Golf Resort. The Central Coast is abundant with sea life - otters, seals, whales and many varieties of birds. Bonnie heads to Hartford Pier to talk with Captain Lee about the trips he leads on his pontoon boat the Seaweed Express. The show wraps up with more suggestions on things to do on the Central Coast in October. Pumpkin Patch locations include: Cheesbooough Farms, Jack Creek Farms, Brookshire Farms and the Avila Barn. Bonnie visits with Jamie Stehula, glass artist from Aria Studios in Avila Beach, just one of a couple hundred artists participating in this year’s Arts Obispo Open Studios Art Tour. Hiking is a popular activity for locals and visitors and the main topic of our first show. I get the scoop on some of the best local hikes on the Central Coast from Gary Felsman - a local hiking icon. Gary worked to create the Bishop Peak Natural Preserve and helped author the Sierra Club Trail Guide for San Luis Obispo County. Gary has lots of tips and information on hiking in SLO County. 12 minutes in: Hear how to hike to an historic light house on the Pecho Coast Trail from Seth Souza. Seth is a local adventure guide and docent for numerous outdoor organizations, Seth has information on this very scenic trail on PG&E land and visiting the restored Port San Luis Lighthouse.
