Celtics PRIDE: Trade & Free Agency Targets
Adam and Josh provide your primer for the remainder of the offseason. They first review the impact of the Celtics losing Lead Assistant Coach Will Hardy who Danny Ainge poached to be the new Head Coach of the Utah Jazz. Josh speaks from his experience on a coaching bench about the pros and cons of hiring a veteran head coach as a replacement and how easy it is to promote from within. Then guys discuss the drafting of JD Davidson and spend far too long discussing summer league before getting to the meat of the offseason options. Adam provides an overview of the options at the Celtics disposal to bring in free agents and trade for players without giving up current rotation players. He also gives an overview of the type of player fans can expect the Celtics to desire and which ones they likely won’t. They then use recent Celticsblog.com articles by Keith Smith on TPE candidates and Mid-Level Exception candidates to discuss specific candidates.  Check it all out, and more, on this week’s Celtics PRIDE. Celtics PRIDE: Final Thoughts on the Season, Top 5 What Ifs, and Off-Season Musings
With the 2021-2022 season officially over, Josh and Mike try to regroup after the emotional rollercoaster of a year that *almost* led to Banner 18. Instead, Josh, Mike, and Celtics fans, players, coaches, and staff are collectively exhausted and ready to regroup. Josh and Mike give their quick reactions about the C’s run to the Finals, whether the better team won, and whether the season should be considered a success (short answer: obviously, yes!). They credit the great defense and unique talents of the Warriors, and salute the Celtics for making it as far as they did – well beyond any preseason expectations. Then, the guys look at a number of big “What Ifs” about the season, pondering what might have been if things had fallen just a bit differently. To name just a few of the questions they grappled with: What If the Celtics Had Closed Out the Earlier Rounds More Quickly? What if TimeLord Was Fully Healthy? What if Kris Middleton was Fully Healthy!?  Finally, the guys started to scratch the surface of the offseason to come. Josh provided his draft deep cuts, profiling a promising array of guys he feels could realistically be available for the C’s at 53. Mike, meanwhile, has his eyes cast on trades and free agency, excited by Brad Stevens and Wyc Grousbeck’s comments indicating they’re willing to go into the tax this year, and knowing the C’s have plenty of tools (particularly TPEs) at their disposal. Celtics PRIDE: Raw and Uncut After Finals Gm 5
Celtics PRIDE: Raw & Uncut After Finals Game 5 This is a raw and uncut episode of Celtics Pride Podcast, immediately following Game 5 versus the Warriors in Golden State, the guys let their emotions out on all the topics of the hour. From the Celtics’ slow start in the first quarter - shooting a brisk 4-17 from the field (23%) in the first 10 minutes of the game, and under 50% from the FT line - to the referees.  Oh, the refs!   Adam and Josh then philosophize over the Celtics' ups and downs, questioning their maturity as a team and then being spit on whether winning games with their backs against the wall will work in the Finals as it has in the past two playoff series.   Adam believes, “It’s not going to work in this series.” Mike dusts off his “Tatum Is Young For The Moment” theory, which is worth hearing again, and the gang helps to sprinkle some silver linings on the depressive mood post the Celtics’ 2nd loss in a row for the first time since March.  Then if that wasn’t enough theories for one reaction pod, Coach Josh tries to level everyone’s head with his “This Celtics Team Is Like Parenting” theory.  You’ll have to tune in to find out more, including their predictions for The NBA Finals Game 6 on Thursday at home in Boston. Celtics PRIDE: Reacting to Games 1 + 2
The C’s are shipping up to Boston tied 1-1 with the Golden State Warriors, an ideal start to the NBA Finals… right? Mike, Josh and Adam discuss the first two games of this Finals series, taking stock of how they’re feeling after the C’s stole Game One before getting blown out in Game 2. Is the sky falling? Is everything puppies, sunshine, and lollipops? Are they somewhere in between? The Pride crew evaluates how the C’s played in each of Games 1 and 2, and look for encouraging – and troubling signs, as they note the two different versions of the C’s continuing to show up. One version moves the ball quickly and efficiently, leading to open shots and allowing their league best defense to consistently get set. The other version quickly and efficiently turns the ball over, allow the other team to get fast breaks and momentum – and to set their own elite defense.  Then, Mike breaks his own code to not discuss the refs by lamenting the absurdity of some of the calls that favored Golden State – and Draymond Green in particular. Adam calls Mike out, but he’s determined to make his case. Josh challenges Mike to claim the NBA must be rigged… does Mike take the bait? At minimum, Mike asks the referees get more artful when granting favor to one team over another. “I’m bringing them up in Game 2 of the NBA Finals when Zach Zarba and Tony Brothers and crew… not only allowed Draymond Green to tackle Grant Williams, but then had the audacity to call a foul on Grant Williams for that tackle.” Mike Minkoff  Then the guys look ahead to Game 3 and talk about what adjustments they think the Celtics need to make as they head home. Stick with the two big lineup or shift things around? Different offensive initatiors? More – or less – time for role players like Grant Williams and Payton Pritchard? And, finally, Josh asks Adam and Mike whether they believe – as young Josh once did – that defense wins championships. Or has this series, and their NBA fandom in recent years, shifted that perspective.  Check it all out, on Celtics Pride. Celtics PRIDE: Miami Recap & Golden State Preview
The Celtics are going to the FINALS!!! Mike, Josh and Adam discuss the last couple of games of the Miami series before looking ahead at Golden State. They share what they learned from the Miami series including how nervous they were at the end of game 7. How would the narrative about the Celtics be different if Jimmy Butler hit his three? How important is rest going into this series? How big of a deal is the Celtics’ proclivity to play more focused, with greater sense of urgency and aggression after losses as they move on to the Finals? What should fans be watching for with the Warriors on both offense and defense? How should the Celtics combat Steph Curry and Klay Thompson’s movement on offense? What about Golden State on defense? IS Draymond Green the game changing defender the Celtics have yet to face in the playoffs? Finally, the Mike, Josh and Adam give their predictions on the finals.   “Draymond Green… the greatest defender in NBA history” Josh Motenko Please rate, review, and subscribe to the Celticsblog podcast feed (“Celtics PRIDE”) and follow us on Twitter @celticspridepod, a @celticsblog podcast.  Hosts: Adam Motenko, Josh Motenko @coachmotenko and Mike Minkoff @mikeminkoffnba  Email: at celticspridepodcast@gmail.com You can find regular episodes of the CelitcsPod and Celtics PRIDE podcasts on Apple, Spotify, Stitcher, or wherever else you listen to your podcasts.  Learn more about your ad choices. Celtics PRIDE: Game 4 Instant Reaction, Ep 100
The Celtics PRIDE Podcast is celebrating episode 100 with an instant reaction to the Celtics Game 4 win over the Miami Heat. It's a solo episode for Josh Motenko as he recounts how the Celtics won game 4, and attempts to give some big picture perspective on the series with the Miami Heat as a whole. The Heat were 0-14 from the field to start the game due to the Celtics defensive intensity and the basketball gods putting a lid on the rim the Heat players were shooting at. Meanwhile Derrick White had the first half the Celtics needed from their point guard with Marcus Smart out of the lineup, as White scored the Celtics first 7 points of the game all by himself. He added 3 steals, and sold some important foul calls against the Heat that lead to Boston shooting an astounding 26 free throws in the half (including 14 from Jayson Tatum alone). In this short episode, Coach Josh breaks down what went well for the C's, and how Jaylen Brown and Tatum responded after their less-than-desirable performances in Game 3 on Saturday. The Celtics are now 5-0 after a loss in the 2022 playoffs, and are 2-2 in the series going into game 5 in Miami Wednesday.
