Trials Turned to Gold
Trials Turned to Gold by Aaron Sheffield, Student Pastor Have you ever gone through a hard time that seemed to have no good reason? When I was twenty-seven years old, I underwent chemotherapy for cancer. It was not a fun time in my life, but my twenty treatments passed quickly and soon I was cancer-free. Shortly thereafter, I found myself trying to justify why God had allowed me to go through all of it. It was hard to come up with lasting benefits. That was until a close friend was diagnosed with the same type of cancer and was facing the same treatments. Only then did I understand that God had uniquely gifted me with not only wisdom and experience in navigating the trial, but also empathy to walk with my friend to help them understand God’s purposes for the circumstance. This is what we are supposed to do as disciples. As we walk with others through life using the Bible as a guide, we can lovingly point them to Jesus. This, in turn, will help them to grow to be more like Christ and equip them to be able to minister to others in the future. Do not ever waste a trial in life that God can turn into golden wisdom!
