We Have Issues #30: Mortal Kombat
For the longest time, there has been a track record of video game movies that were absolutely abhorrent. Super Mario Bros. (1993), Street Fighter 1994), Mortal Kombat (1995), Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (1997), Doom (2005), and many, many more. Very recently we saw the tides turning with Pokémon Detective Pikachu (2019) being pretty good and Sonic The Hedgehog (2020) being incredibly adequate, these shining beacons of not-trash let so many video game fans have hope again. Cut to 2021, the release of the newest Mortal Kombat film, a reboot of the movie universe, many people are excited to see this movie, including me. The cast was well picked, the effects in the trailer looked awesome, we got to see some fantastic gore in the fight scenes. Then the day arrives, April 16, 2021, and it is incredibly bad.
