The Casement Finishing School For Upright Young Deviants
What's the difference between etiquette and politics? To some they've become one and the same. Can you have good politics but bad manners? Is it time to relegate etiquette to the bourgeois bin-bag of time along with man servants and charity wristbands? Casements has the answers.Listen to your favourite internet inepts as they stumble through their guide to etiquette in the 21st century and beyond. Discover exciting new ways to diagnose your mates as terminal dickheads in the pub. Also on the cultural chopping block: drag panic, culture wars as foreign import and influencer parents (the new Dance Mams). Ireland: Revisited
Helen and Matt get together to analyse some of the biggest stories from the last few weeks of Irish politics (unfortunately we recorded this just before the release of the Windsor Protocol and the appointment of Holly Cairns as the new leader of the SocDems – of course). Helen has their sights set on the smaller parties in the state, as they chastise the Greens for showing up to the #IrelandForAll March and wonders what even is the point of the Soc Dems. We also discuss the return of Bertie, the continuing corruption at the heart of the Irish government, the latest nursing homes scandal, the DJ Carey affair, and the potential decriminalisation of cannabis and other recreational drugs. Come and see how we hold things down without Glen, who we promise will be back soon x

Art vs Artist. FIGHT!
Two tribes go to war. It's that fucked conversation which has plagued smoking areas and idle canteen chit chat for decades. Art vs Artist. Can you separate the art from the artist? Should you? Are boycotts worthwhile? Is the Left honing an effective weapon against reactionaries or dainty ettiquette for dinner parties and twitter threads? Whether it's Wagner, Caravaggio or Rowling, Casement's slogs through the shitty discourse and fight each other for your listening pleasure.

Piss
This one starts out fairly bad, then it gets okay for a little bit in the middle, and then towards the end it gets a whole lot worse. Sorry about this one, we'll try again next week

Charity and Other Lies
"Come on," I hear you say. "They must be taking the piss now." "I know they claim to 'serve up hot takes like you wouldn't believe', but charity? Really? They had a go at CHARITY? Someone needs to finally put a stop to these edgy socialists who pathetically think it's progressive to be 'controversial'. This isn't helping anyone. What could possibly be wrong with CHARITY?"Join Glen, Helen and Matt as they skewer the do-gooders and expose the charity myth. They talk about the efficacy of charity, the scam that is philanthropy, and the unholy marriage of money and morals that is the latest trend of 'Effective Altruism'.  What is the role of charity in our society? How does philanthropy fundamentally undermine democracy? And when WILL Glen decide to go to therapy? Let us know how wrong we are by sending targeted abuse at us on Instagram or Twitter, or by emailing us at casementsleftovers@gmail.com. Dream F@gs
We're your Dream F*gs, boys. We'll make you happy. Step inside the most surreal Casement's episode yet. The gang reveal their Fenian dreams and lay them on the slab for some good aul fashioned Freudian analysis. What does David Lynch, Hauntological soundscapes and Queer Eye for the Straight Guy reveal about the republican psyche. Is Glen stuck in the anal stage? Does Matt's Granny's burning house reveal a devestating hatred of women? Is Helen a Trans narcissist? Sit back and enjoy while three friends attempt to publically humilate each other in what therapists are calling "a troubling step backwards for mental health".

Liz Truss Has Joined The IRA
A formless, aimless episode in which we discuss: the Free State's relationship to the IRA and the Troubles, Bono being a Pox, the departure of Mommy Truss, the efficacy of protest vs parliamentary politics, and the rehabilitation of the Yorkshire Ripper.Don't forget to subscribe, review, and tell your friends about the cleverest and sexiest leftist podcast in Ireland.  Other bits: Matt’s essay on Irish hip-hop and cultural cringe: https://therockisdead.com/2021/02/20/whats-that-sound-px-music-cultural-cringe-and-the-redemption-of-irish-hip-hop/  Peter Sutcliffe The Musical (Brass Eye): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pFbzrbzrtE&ab_channel=TheatreToursInternational

Nonce-Sense
Explicably, the nonce one. In the grand tradition of Brass Eye, our resident pedophile expert, Helen, talks us through why they did their BA dissertation on pedophiles and pedophile rehabilitation, and how it's made them the superstar they are now.We talk about the construction of sexuality, Lacanian notions of desire, Epstein's flight logs, and flesh out our theory that money makes you a nonce. Plus, we libel ourselves! What could be more fun! In all seriousness, this is an episode about pedophiles and child sexual assault, so it inherently comes with a big content warning. Please listen at your own discretion.

A Journey to the Past
Exhausted by the media circus? Do you long for a time when the biggest news story was some banal issue with a TD's houses? Casement's are here to serve. Listen to your favourite fenian cynics discuss news segments from a week ago and rip each others throat out over podcasting slights. In this episode Glen takes the wheel and crashes the podcast into a brick wall. The gang discuss misogyny, ex-pat culture, landlords, nonce culture, the fall of the Soviet Union and much more. Take a break from the Queen discourse and relax as three friends fight for your entertainment.

Nuclear, Newly Clear
So, you can't afford to pay your heating bills or fill up the tank of your Fiat 500, and even if you could afford to, you'd be killing the planet anyway. It's truly fucked. What are you to do when faced with the twin crises of energy and the climate? Luckily, Casements have the answer, and it's available right now. In this bumper episode, Glen, Helen and Matt get together to finally tell the truth about nuclear energy. What seems to us an obvious open goal has been abandoned as a viable solution to our energy problems by both the left and right, despite the fact that nuclear is efficient, emission-free, and – contrary to popular belief – completely and utterly safe. Join us for 90 minutes of myth-busting, science-trusting, solution-lusting fun that just radiates positive energy. This one's a game changer.

Casement's Liveline: Pride 2022
A very, very special edition of Casement's Leftovers where we invited you, the listener, to join us on the show. We asked on our socials: "what does Pride mean to you?", and you responded with the same quantity and ferocity of the most deranged Liveline caller-base. Join us today as we take a cynical, unconvinced look at Dublin Pride and ask what it's all even for, before turning to the nasty, unwashed public for their opinions on this finest pageant of all things Gay. Given the horrific transphobia that was allowed to air on Ireland's premier talk radio show last week under the guise of polite debate on the "trans issue", we also take these TERF scumbags to task and put our foot down once and for all. The fight to protect trans people has taken on renewed urgency lately, and it's about time transphobia is rooted out of gay and queer spaces once and for all. If you missed out on taking part, correct your mistake now by following us on Twitter and Instagram! Happy Pride if you celebrate, and see you all next time x

Marxists Solve the Housing Crisis
Ireland has been living through a housing crisis for what feels like forever, and we here at Casement's Leftovers think it's high time that someone got up off their arses and did something about it. But what? We are joined by writer David Hartery (@DinoCrisisActor) to discuss his excellent article 'Marxism and the Housing Crisis', written for Socialist Voice. David explains what Marx and Marxism has to say about housing, before walking us through the origins of the crisis in Ireland and pointing us towards potential solutions (spoiler: we need to build more houses). We of course take Irish policy-makers to task, but we also look inwards and consider also whether or not the housing crisis provides an opportunity for the Left. How should we think of housing within capitalism? What should our demands be? Just how nice are Eoin Ó Broin's glasses? Make sure to tell your friends about the pod, and drop us a line at @casementslftvrs on Twitter, @casementsleftovers on Instagram, or casementsleftovers@gmail.com. You can find David's article here: https://socialistvoice.ie/2021/04/marxism-and-the-housing-crisis/

The Trauma Industry
This month Heather & Matt are too busy "working" to perform their vital role of reigning Helen & Glen in from being the cyclical haters they were born to be - that's right, we're throwing it back to the original line-up babyyy! Join Helen & Glen as they take on the online cottage industry of monetizing your trauma in order to be the best activist there ever was. We discuss how  identity is becoming the core of our politics, and how those identities are reified by the trauma attached to them, and analyse how this intersects with social-media-as-a-career-ladder to create a society in which "sharing your story" of the worst thing that ever happened to you is actually ... highly profitable. If you hate everyone and yourself, you'll love this episode! Enter the Metaverse: Part 2
In which Matt says “fuck the Metaverse, all my homies hate the Metaverse” but Heather shouts back “LET 👏 PEOPLE 👏 ENJOY 👏 THINGS 👏.” Join Heather, Glen and Matt for the second half of their discussion on the Metaverse. This time round, Matt attempts to make a few extremely insightful points into the true nature of desire and the impossibility of any liberation from its indestructible shackles, but Heather and Glen spend most of the hour making fun of him for watching Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. Were smart phones a mistake? Will the Metaverse be different? Would you fuck Slavoj Žižek? Let us know on Twitter, Instagram or at casementsleftovers@gmail.com Other bits: Matt’s article on social media and alienation: https://therockisdead.com/2021/12/02/my-friend-adam-the-lonely-metaplanet-social-media-in-the-age-of-alienation/ Outro music is Law and Order (Fazari Remix).

Enter the Metaverse: Part 1
Technology – what’s it all about, anyway?  Join Heather, Glen & Matt as they examine the promises and possibilities of Web 3.0. Can NFTs provide a viable alternative for artists to get paid fairly for their work? Is the Metaverse truly a game-changer for tech, or simply another false dawn? And what the hell is up with Mark Zuckerberg’s hair?  We get into all of these questions (and more) over the course of two cyber-soaked episodes. In this, the first part, we start with a now woefully out-of-date chat about the Will Smith Slap, before checking in on Facebook/Meta and Emperor Zuck, and then finishing up for now with Heather and Matt getting into it about the pros and cons of NFTs.  Then, check back next week for Part 2 where we delve deeper into the philosophy of the Metaverse itself, asking such existential questions as “what is desire?”, “is liberation possible?” and “what if you got fired in the Metaverse by a 3D Barney Gumble?”  Also, don't forget you can email us at casementsleftovers@gmail.com or reach out to us on Twitter or Instagram. Let us know your takes, both good and bad! We will actually read them!

Sex Negative
Feeling alone? Sexually inadequate? Is your dating app fueled anxiety getting you down?  We're here to help. This week Casement's Leftovers is cringing over the "Sex Positive" identity industrial complex. We weigh in on whether being into p*ss play makes you a better comrade or if wearing latex to sex parties will get you radical points online.Glen discusses the marketplace of TikTok "non-straight" masc queer baiting, and reveals his appreciation of the stanislavski method on P*rnHub.Helen and Heather get into it about performative sexuality, and discuss how much of what we do in bed is something we do for our own enjoyment. Matt dispatches from Berlin, discussing the psychotic history of the German Green Party.***Don't forget you can email us at casementsleftovers@gmail.com, tell us if we forgot to mock your personal kink.Intro music by Lick The Tins - "Can't  Help Falling in Love"Outro music by Birdcloud - "Saving Myself for Jesus"

The PMC, or: Exciting New Ways to Hate the Middle Class
All the way back in 1977 John and Barbara Ehrenreich coined the term “the professional-managerial class” to refer to “salaried mental workers who do not own the means of production and whose major function in the social division of labour may be described broadly as the reproduction of capitalist culture and capitalist class relations.” The term reemerged in the 2010s with renewed vigour as a useful way of denoting a class of technocratic liberals who occupy an increasingly dominant role in culture and politics, indulging in performative social justice posturing with one hand while resolutely defending the status quo with the other.  On this episode, the crew discuss the latest intervention into this particular discourse, Catherine Liu’s 2021 book Virtue Hoarders: The Case Against the Professional-Managerial Class. In an attempt to locate the PMC in Ireland, we dive deep into the perverse habits and proclivities of this group of people, skewer their tendency to scold and moralise, and debate whether or not we should even think of them as a separate class at all. Oh, and about two thirds of the way through, we also watch some porn. Don’t ask me why.  Oh, and because we always forget, a quick request (note: not begging) to share the podcast with your friends and family if you think they’d like it. People always say that iTunes reviews help, so maybe do that as well? Otherwise you might just be a perverted PMC dog.

Love Actually (2003) Is Iraq War Propaganda
Following an unexplained absence almost as traumatic as that of the Galaxy Truffle, everyone’s favourite Irish republican podcast is back, and just in time for the holidays! As the out of control woke brigade continues its unprovoked and ruthless war on Christmas, the Casement's crew get in the festive spirit by looking back on a war possibly even more pointless and unjust: Iraq.  More specifically, Helen ruins your favourite Christmas film by arguing that Love Actually (2003) is literally Iraq War propaganda. Elsewhere, Heather is repulsed by the film’s promotion of creepy male behaviour and Glen is repulsed by the film’s Britishness.  Turn the Christmas lights on and the Nostalgia dial all the way up to Sickly Sweet, and join Helen, Glen, Heather and brand new permanent co-host Matt on a trip back to the early 2000s, when Hugh Grant literally did 9/11 and George Bush told us "There’s WMDs, Actually".
