Podcast #132 – Jason Groupp and WPPI
Jason Groupp has been a photographer in New York for over 20 years and I am a big fan of his work, his style, and his teaching techniques. We have had Jason on the podcast before talking about lighting and that turned out to be an extremely popular podcast. Recently, Jason has taken the position of Director for WPPI (Wedding & Portrait Photographers International) which hosts a large conference in Las Vegas every winter. During this episode we talk about what WPPI is all about, who should go, and how to make the most out of an experience like this. If you are considering attending, or are on the fence, then listen to the program and see if it helps to clarify what your expectations are. I recently received a Lytro camera as a Christmas gift and have become rather impressed with the technology although the images are not quite professional grade images yet. (Image shot by Thomas Hawk). Eric talks in detail about the history of light field photography and how they developed the technology for consumer use. It’s obvious Lytro has big plans in store for the technology and this podcast will give you some insight as to where this technology can take photography. Jerry Dodrill is an award-winning adventure and landscape photographer who early in his career was a protégé of legendary photographer Galen Rowell. During the show we talk about the new gear but also how and why they used Kickstarter to launch the company. Podcast #119 – Conversation with Vincent Versace
In what is the longest Camera Dojo Podcast ever, we spend the evening with Vincent Versace. During this podcast we discuss how we should be paying attention to the blur in our images more than what is in focus. This out of focus is called Bokeh (pronounced Bow Kay).  Vincent blows our minds by teaching us that many of the things that we have been told and accepted over the years are simply not accurate. Next we go into a discussion of focus and that misconception of how focal length affects depth of field. The reality is that it has no affect on depth of field but the focal length affects the apparent focus is because a smaller object will appear less out of focus where a larger object will appear to more out of focus. Vincent challenges us all to spend a day shooting and only paying attention to what is not in focus and not what is in focus. Next we have a discussion of black and white images and processing. This description only touches the surface of the conversation as it runs all over the map but is one of the most entertaining and education shows we have ever done. If you want to follow along during the second half of the show when we discuss some specific images, go to Vincent’s website at http://www.versacephotography.com Warning: There are a few moments of “adult language” that did not get edited out (...)Read the original post at Podcast #119 – Conversation with Vincent Versace (47 words) © admin for Camera Dojo, 2012. | Permalink | 4 comments | Add to del.icio.us Post tags: Bokeh, dof, podcast, Vincent Versace Feed enhanced by Better Feed from Ozh The post Podcast #119 – Conversation with Vincent Versace appeared first on Camera Dojo.
