First off, we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who's listening and to everyone who's reached out with feedback. Some people have commented on a theme of these playlists: yes, we feature a lot of female musicians. HELL YES we feature women artists. Has anyone else noticed that there seems to be a recent influx of girl singers, DJs, rappers, producers, drummers, etc? And has anyone else noticed that there's also a recent influx of terrific music? Cake or Death has noticed. Thanks to everyone who tuned in and for all the kind words on the last 10-song mix! I've had some people ask me what the motivation was to start posting new content. Frankly I've been disappointed in the lack of motion in what you might call the modern canon; I've seen too much recycling of the same lineup at different festivals and it's been confusing me since I've found so much great new music lately. Following the initial EDM boom, most of the music heads I know seem to agree that there was a lull in quality original tunes. I believe we've broken through that lull and there has been a cavalcade of great music being made in the past few years. I've probably discovered more new artists that I love in the past 12 months than I did in the 3 years prior. So what's the deal? How long do we wait until new names start breaking into the festival circuit? We can't blame the artists- they're doing their part. Maybe the fault lies with the editors of taste. Maybe we're back to a point where the world needs more outlets for music that hasn't hit the mainstream eye. And maybe it's time for me to stop hoarding discoveries and waiting for someone else to break them. For now I'm going to try to settle in to a rhythm of one 10-song playlist per month.
