The raw and real "butterfly"
Raw & Real with CJ Ripka is an interview based show that is designed to let you the listener get to know my guests on a more personal level. We often relate to people by what they do and forget about who they are.   R&R lets the guest tell their story and what ignited their passion to start on the journey that they chose to pursue. From coaches to entrepreneurs, Podcasters, and the occasional athlete. We all have a story to tell.   My story starts out 14 years ago with Duhamel Broadcasting in Rapid City SD. as a Tape Operator for the evening news. I had applied for this part time position with no knowledge of actually went into producing a news cast. After a couple of months, I got the opportunity to learn the control board and was promoted to over night Master Control Operator.   With the exposure to the over night routine, I met some of the radio people and started to learn everything I could about that. In a year, I had caught the bug. I wanted to be in radio. Actually, I wanted to be on the radio.   During that time I took a full-time position in the South Dakota National Guard as the State Video Producer working in the Public Affairs Office. I produced training videos, family support videos and news coverage pieces for local stations. I did this for the next 3 years before being deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.   After my return home I decided to start my own production company called Skyline Video Productions. I produced wedding videos, legal videos, training videos, and the occasional sports highlight video. I also started playing around with guest hosting on a few Internet radio stations that have long gone away. However, that thrill of being on the radio was amazing to me. Now we reach 2015, 10 years after starting my production company which I sold in 2007, and I learn about podcasting. I dust off a few old mics and buy a mixer and some additional components and decide to start a show called Average 2 Awesome. It was a Great title, but bad format. Somewhere over the course of 8 years and being influenced by the successful podcasts already published, I forgot the golden rule

Yvonne Garris shares wisdom
Yvonne lost most of her sight due to an unexpected illness. Within 3 months she went from having 20/20 vision to having 20/10,000 and sees no color. She compares how she sees like looking through wax paper. Yvonne has developed a passion for helping the newly disabled person realize that their life does not end when they become disabled . She looks at it like they are starting a new life and it is one that she helps them figure out what they want it to look like. She often refers to the time of her life when she was sighted as her previous life. She feels that her new life is even better and she is so excited to be able to help others find and realize their dreams. She does this by helping her clients identify their goals and then set achievable steps which she holds them accountable. If you are looking for a professional that has been in your shoes then you have come to the right place. Yvonne lost most of her sight in 2004 and knows what it feels like to have the rug pulled out from under you. After losing most of her sight she went to college and earned her bachelor of social work degree, graduating with honors. She discovered that even though there are many rehab services available, none are designed to help a person decide what to do now that their life is turned upside down. That is why she started Fresh Outlook Coach so she can be there for others that are going through what she went through. Helping the newly disabled person realize that their life does not end when they become disabled by helping them set and obtain their goals and reach for the stars! Yvonne also trains hospitals and doctor offices on how to work with their disabled patients and is working on a brochure for them to refer back to once the training is over. https://www.facebook.com/FreshOutLookCoaching?ref=aymt_homepage_panel http://www.freshoutlookcoach.com/

At the age of 20, I decided to write my bio so people can hear my story. A lot of my friends have been putting a bug in my ear to write a book for years; one-day things just clicked into place and I started writing. My book is called If Dan Can Shred, You Can Too. I want to share my stories and adventures to inspire you to stand up and follow your dreams whether you have a disability or not.I have overcome so many obstacles in my life, and now I have overcome the biggest one- typing. As I was growing up it was hard for me to read and write. When I was writing short stories in school I looked at a blank page for a long time because I was scared to misspell words, but I learned that it is okay to misspell words and to just keep typing away. I am happy that I got over that so I could share my story with you and have you hear my real voice. No obstacle is too big a wall; one day, you will break it down. I am also the first adaptive snowboarder in the world, and I tell you this to say that if you have a dream that you want to make a reality, do it, and let no one stop you!
