E100 – The Lost Interview with the Late, Great James Martell
On this, episode 100 of the Business Marketing Show, we dedicate it to a good friend and mentor who passed away a few months ago, James Martell. The simple fact is, I would not be podcasting today if it wasn’t for James. The very first podcast I ever listened to was James Martell on his Affiliate Buzz podcast back in 2003. James has had one of the longest (if not the longest running) podcasts on the internet on any topic let alone affiliate marketing. I was fortunate enough to first meet James and his amazing other half Arlene, at CJU (Commission Junction University) 2005 in Santa Barbara in the US. We them met up at several other events including The System Seminar in 2007 when I introduced James to it and he then went on to be invited by Ken McCarthy to be a presenter on the topic of affiliate marketing until the final live System Seminar event in 2011. My family and I also spent time with James, Arlene and their family in their home town of White Rock in Vancouver BC in 2008 as part of our 7 month world trip. James has appeared as a guest on several of my podcast episodes over the years and I on his. Not only was James a brilliant affiliate marketer who helped educate tens of thousands of people around the globe on the topic, he was an amazing family man and a great person to call my friend. I feel very fortunate to have known him and his beautiful family but to have also learned so much about affiliate marketing and podcasting where I spend a huge amount of my time in today. The great thing is we have years of amazing content from James in both written, audio & video that we can always still go and learn from him at any time even though he is no longer with us he has left an amazing legacy that will go on for many many years. Thanks for everything my friend, I know you are here by my side guiding me in spirit every day. Cheers Ed The post E100 – The Lost Interview with the Late, Great James Martell appeared first on The Business Marketing Show.

E97 – Tactics for 2019
In our training workshops we often share the hub and spoke model (wheel) where your website is the key asset, in the centre of the wheel as the hub, and the purpose of the third party sites and services is to drive traffic back to them. When working with clients we’re increasingly seeing a focus by businesses on third party sites and social networks vs their own websites and missing this key core concept. In this episode we dig into this hub and spoke framework and drill down into the various tactics you can leverage in 2019. E93 – Ken McCarthy from The System Seminar
In this episode of the Business Marketing Show, Ed talks with Ken McCarthy, a true Internet Pioneer and founder of The System Seminar and System Club who “turned a pre-podcasting audio program featuring live calls and audio cassettes into a multi-million dollar business. Ken is best known for his pioneering work in the movement to commercialize the Internet in the first part of the 1990s, including early experiments with legitimate e-mail advertising, contributions to the development of the banner ad, practical applications of pay-per-click advertising and Internet video. He is credited in Time magazine with originating the idea of using click-through rates as the key metric of website performance. In 1994, he organized and sponsored the first conference ever held on potential commercial applications of the World Wide Web. Marc Andreessen, co-founder of Netscape and developer of the first commercially successful Web browser, was the keynote speaker. Other Internet pioneers who acknowledge the impact McCarthy’s ideas had on their own work include Ed Niehaus, Rick Boyce, and Steve O’Keefe. In a talk at Pacific Bell in 1994, McCarthy described in detail the new content marketing and distribution model the Internet was making possible, a model now sometimes referred to as The Long Tail. Ken talks about the early days of trying to get people to understand the Internet as a commercial advertising platform. In the early days, people using the Internet were anti-commerce, they did not want to sell things, or do advertising, but the first commercial base turned out to be banner ads. We also honour our dear friend and internet pioneer, James Martell who sadly, passed away recently from a brain aneurysm. James has the longest running podcast on any topic on the internet. His podcast, Affiliate Buzz has been running since 2003. James was a great friend who adored his family and loved his work. He was always a joy to talk to and to be around. His work lives on in his podcasts, so make sure to have a listen here http://www.webmasterradio.fm/shows/affiliate-buzz. R.I.P mate.
