Bulls Podcast #56
It’s the Bulls Podcast #56 hosted by Marcus Couch and Doug Thonus. We’ve got full Bulls vs Cavs Reaction, our State of the #Bulls – Front Office Rumor Edition, and Game predictions for the coming week. Welcome to the Bulls Podcast, coming to you from BullsPodcast.com. This is where we bring you the latest news, reviews, rants, rumors and opinions on the players, coaches and front office of the Chicago Bulls. My name is Marcus Couch, and this week I’m joined by the man, the legend, Mr. Doug Thonus. We’ve got several topics for this episode. Including: Bulls vs Cavs Rundown State of The Bulls – Front Office Rumors Game predictions for the coming week Bulls vs Cavs Post-Game The Bulls took on the Cleveland Cavaliers in Cleveland and won 108-103.   State of the Bulls – Front Office Edition The Bulls are currently putting out the vibe that they aim to hire a new general manager to replace Gar Forman. But Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations John Paxson and president/CEO Michael Reinsdorf aren’t going anywhere. And from the latest news; perhaps neither is coach Jim Boylen. Per K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago: “Boylen continues to receive strong backing from both Paxson and ownership.” “While placing the contingency that Boylen must be retained could limit the pool of candidates, NBC Sports Chicago previously reported that Michael Reinsdorf, who is leading the search, is expected to ask potential candidates to keep an open mind on retaining Boylen. If the preferred target candidate insists otherwise, that’s not expected to be a dealbreaker.” What are we talking about here? This is just the classic phrase of reshuffling of the deck chairs on the Titanic.  Imagine you’re in a job interview and the employer indicates a preference for how you’d proceed if you got the position. Are you really going to suggest a contrary plan? Maybe you’d still get the job based on other attributes, but that aspect would probably hurt your chances. Once on the job, a new general manager would also save political capital by keeping Boylen. If the new general manager hires a new coach who fails that’d reflect far more negatively on the general manager than if the general manager keeps Boylen and Boylen fails. Essentially, hiring a new coach accelerates the clock on the general manager getting judged. It’s probably not coincidence, hired after Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor expressed affection for keeping Ryan Saunders, new Timberwolves president Gersson Rosas kept Saunders following a coaching search. Maybe Rosas would’ve landed on Saunders, anyway. But in a big world full of coaching candidates, that’s difficult to believe. An established executive like Sam Presti would likely get more latitude to hire a new coach. But I doubt the Bulls would pay enough to lure Presti from the Thunder. Most likely, this suggestion only pushes Chicago further toward a limited pool of candidates. All this for Boylen? The defining characteristics of his tenure are oddly timed timeouts and clashing with his players. Boylen gets too much grief for his timeouts, but he also hasn’t done enough positively as a coach to drown out the timeout noise. His relationship with players is legitimately concerning. Also: If Boylen holds such strong support from Paxson and ownership, that might indicate something about Doug Collins’ standing in the organization. Doug Collins was recently banned from Coaches meetings by Boylen. This isn’t good. Bulls Podcast #55
It’s the Bulls Podcast #55 hosted by Marcus Couch and Pat the Designer. We’ve got full Bulls vs Hornets Reaction, our State of the #Bulls – Injury Report Edition, Demote Gar/Pax, and Game predictions for the coming week. Welcome to the Bulls Podcast, coming to you from BullsPodcast.com. This is where we bring you the latest news, reviews, rants, rumors and opinions on the players, coaches and front office of the Chicago Bulls. My name is Marcus Couch, and this week I’m pleased to be with one of the finest Chicago Bulls YouTubers out there. From Windy City The Breeze, we’ve got Pat The Designer in the house. We’ve got several topics for this episode. Including: Bulls vs Hornets Rundown State of The Bulls – Injury Report Game predictions for the coming week   Players Wearing #55 Before we begin, we want to praise all the #55’s out there, in congruence with Episode #55 of the podcast. There are no numbers between 56 and 77, and then we only have Rodman after that at 91, so might as well get this segment in while we can..  There were two Bulls players to wear the number 55.  The first was Roger Brown in 1980. He was a 6-11, 225lb 14 year NBA/ABA center that came to the Bulls after 2 years of being out with Injury. He played only 4 games and retired. Nothing notable. The only other instance of #55 for the Bulls was E’Twaun Moore, who is still playing in the NBA today, in his 4th year with the Pelicans after spending just 2 years with the Bulls. The most memorable moment for ET was certainly the game winning 3 pointer against the OKC Thunder in March of 2015. Pau Gasol took the inbound pass from Mike Dunleavy, who immediately dished to a double-teamed Moore in the left corner. E’Twaun chucked it up to win the game, sealing the victory with just 2.1 seconds on the clock and prompting Benny the Bull to hold his face and pass out on the floor in shock, which has become the most popular Benny Meme online..  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fci_Tk4P1HQ   Bulls vs Hornets Post-Game The Bulls took on the Charlotte Hornets at the UC after some extended rest at the All-Star break. Unfortunately, they got destroyed, losing the game 103-93  Thad Young led the way for the Bulls with 22 points and 11 rebounds, but the Bulls just couldn’t get their chemistry mixed right. They led a huge comeback charge in the 3rd quarter, much to the mystery of Jim Boylen in terms of how it happened.. But the gap proved to be too wide for the Bulls to traverse, and they never really had a shot to take the lead at any point. Daniel Gafford, finally played, but limited himself in crunch time by getting into foul trouble and eventually fouling out of the game in the 4th quarter with at least 7 minutes left on the clock. Notably the Hornets were having fun against the Bulls, laughing and talking trash all night as they coasted to an easy victory over the injury-riddled Bulls.   State of the Bulls – Injury Report- Bulls need to get healthy, and then we have to see if they get better when they’re healthy.  That is the first thing. Do you believe when we get healthier that we’re much better because it felt like we were getting there then everyone got hurt.   Are we going to see December Lauri when he’s back and solid play by Carter and Gafford?  Can Otto give us anything?     The Bulls have real legitimate big questions even if they are healthy.  They should be good enough to win much more than they are if that happens, but we haven’t consistently seen that prior to the injuries so it is hard to hope too much.  Also, the Bulls just seem doubly cursed by injuries. Deciding factors: Luke Kornet just sprained his ankle in practice today – No return timetable Dunn is done as a Chicago Bull – Season over, not coming back. Lauri may not return in Feb. Wendell Carter may not return in Feb. Who knows what will happen with our guys that are not injured yet. Let’s predict our next few games for the coming week Bulls vs Suns Sat 2/22 @ United Center Marcus: W Pat: W Bulls vs Wizards Sun 2/23 @ United Center Marcus: W Pat: L Bulls vs Thunder Tues 2/25 @ United Center Marcus: L Pat: L   CLOSING: Pat Social Links:   Twitter: http://twitter.com/PatTheDesigner Show Twitter: https://twitter.com/wctheBreeze YouTube: Windy City The Breeze – https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2dxCU59lVh_atF0EmKfA5g   Marcus Social Links   Twitter: http://twitter.com/marcuscouch Instagram: http://instagram.com/marcuscouch   Everything show related you can find @bullspodcast. Bulls Podcast #54
It’s the Bulls Podcast #54 hosted by Marcus Couch and Doug Thonus. We’ve got full Bulls vs Wizards Reaction, our State of the #Bulls, Fizzled out Trade Rumors and Game predictions for the coming week. Welcome to the Bulls Podcast, coming to you from BullsPodcast.com. This is where we bring you the latest news, reviews, rants, rumors and opinions on the players, coaches and front office of the Chicago Bulls. We’ve got several topics for this episode. Including: Bulls vs Wizards Rundown Bulls Trade Rumors that never happened State of The Bulls Game predictions for the coming week We’ll be right back after this quick time-out.   Bulls vs Wizards Post-Game The Bulls took on the Washington Wizards in a must-win scenario to get a small foothold to the 8th seed of the playoffs. Unfortunately, they got smoked, losing the game 126-114 Zach Lavine led the way for the Bulls with 41 points on 15-21 FGs, but the Bulls were not in a 126-114 loss to the Wizards at any point in the game. Sato continued to play well against his former team, leading to the question, should we trick Sato into thinking he’s always playing the Wizards?  He needs to play this way all the time, not just showing off in front of his old teammates. Daniel Gafford, who you heard in the intro of the show, DID NOT PLAY due to a coach’s decision. WHY????? The All-Star break is upon the Bulls, who are 19-36, losers of 6 straight and sit in 10th in the East.   Bulls Trade Rumors Denzel Valentine could not be moved. It may not be the move that propels this team in the right direction, but it’s clear that small forward Denzel Valentine needed to be traded before the deadline this season. It’s not entirely his fault, both sides seemed to want to move on, but there were no takers. Would have been nice to get back something for Denzel, but I think at most you were looking at a second rounder.  When the 76ers traded for Glen Robinson III and Alec Burks the Bulls probably lost their shot at moving Valentine.  Seems highly likely the Bulls would have taken 2nds for Valentine (even 1) so my guess is the 76ers just preferred those players. Acquiring center Andre Drummond from Detroit. We had a shot to get Drummond, but there was no interest shown publicly by the Bulls. It would have been a great story to grab both Andre and Derrick Rose, but that story is yet to be fulfilled. This would have been an interesting move because Drummond went for basically nothing.  There are questions about how much he impacts the game, I mean Detroit was nothing special with him and Rose.   I’m not sure how much you’d have had to give up to make this happen but Porter + 1st might have gotten it done.   You’d then probably want to spin off WCJ for something else in a follow up trade (perhaps in the summer) because there’s no room with him and Drummond.  You’d have to be comfortable with what you think he will demand to keep him most likely because obviously this trade wouldn’t be about doing a whole lot this year most likely.  It might have bumped you up to the 8th seed and 35 wins, but where does it leave you in the future? Still, case can be made the resulting team (especially if you swung Carter for a good wing) would be a 45+ win type team, and the Bulls deifnitely have the personnel to play around a center that can’t shoot.   Low ultimate upside, but right now we’re no where, so it still would have given the Bulls a watchable team for awhile.   Malik Monk The only player on this list that the Chicago Bulls could’ve traded for at the trade deadline this year that actually didn’t get moved is the Charlotte Hornets 6-foot-3 23-year-old shooting guard Malik Monk. Since Monk isn’t having his best year in terms of offensive production, the Bulls would be able to buy low on him. So far this season, Monk is averaging 9.5 points per game, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.0 assists while shooting 43.4 percent from the field and 27.4 percent from beyond the arc. The poor trend in Monk’s numbers is his three-point shooting percentage. Monks three-point shooting percentage dropped off in each of his three years in the NBA. The Hornets are effectively out of playoff contention in the East at this point, even more so than the Bulls. Monk would be a good way for the Bulls to bolster their current rotation deeper down the bench and still stay young and building toward the future. He’s a very athletic option that is starting to show more capabilities as a facilitator and a good shooter when he’s in rhythm. His defensive game hasn’t really come along yet, though. Bulls and Hornets are in pretty similar places as a franchise, so how does a trade make sense for both teams?   Both teams are bad without anything to build around. Would you give up a future 1st for Monk? Would the Hornets trade him for a 2nd?   Are there any player for player trades that make sense? Maybe you could buy low on Monk, but it’s hard to see how a player becomes a good fit for us and a bad fit for Charlotte given that both are at rebuild places. Maurice Harkless A move that would be more under-the-radar for the Chicago Bulls than trading for D-Lo would’ve been trying to snag small forward Maurice Harkless from the Clippers. The Clippers went from trading Harkless from one slipping team in the East to another. Instead of sending him to the Bulls for that often discussed return of Young, the Clippers sent Harkless to the rapidly slipping New York Knicks for a return of standout power forward Marcus Morris. As one of the better floor spacing and tougher big men that was on the trade block in the NBA this season, Morris could be a good fit with the Clippers. Landing Harkless from the Clippers would be a nice deal for both sides. Harkless could be a better fit with the Bulls right now than Thad Young, despite all the thinning depth in the frontcourt. But the Bulls are also thin on the wing. Hutch is about all that head coach Jim Boylen has left as a true small forward in the rotation. However, Harkless would provide that heavily-desired two-way wing presence in the Bulls starting five. He’s having a down year, but a change of scenery might be exactly what he needed. Landing with the Knicks was just not the ideal move for Harkless’ NBA career. So far this season, Harkless is averaging 5.5 points per game, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.0 assists while shooting 51.6 percent from the field and 37.0 percent from beyond the arc. His shooting percentages are at least holding together this season. Harkless is a value contract but only has one more year left under contract.   I guess what it comes down to is what would you have given up for him? There are already rumors the Knicks might by him out which begs the question whether he’d stay here.   He’s maybe a 5th or 6th best player on your team in the future at best? Also, how do the Bulls trump the offer of Morris. I’d have been all over a trade of Young for Harkless, but it doesn’t seem likely that was on the table and is hard to see what else would have gotten a deal done vs the one actually done. State of the Bulls – Are we playoff bound?? As much of a trash-heap that this season has been so far, there is actually a really good chance that we can sneak into the 8th seed and make the playoffs this season. But should we march for the playoffs and fulfill the goal of the season, or is it time to rev up the tank for another season and hope that the ball bounces our way in the lottery? Bulls have a chance to win out the rest of February & tie for 8th with the Magic based on their schedule and players coming back from injury. Some out there have expressed a hopeful projection that the Bulls go 6-0 & the Magic 2-4. It could actually happen. The Magic’s Upcoming schedule includes games agains the Pistons, Mavericks, Nets, Hawks, Timberwolves and Spurs. While the Bulls have a relatively easier schedule with games with the Hornets, Suns, Wizards, Thunder and Knicks. Completely do-able that we can run the table and go undefeated for all of these games… Granted that’s we get some of our guys back. Bulls need to get healthy, and then we have to see if they get better when they’re healthy.  That is the first thing. Do you believe when we get healthier that we’re much better because it felt like we were getting there then everyone got hurt.  Are we going to see December Lauri when he’s back and solid play by Carter and Gafford? Can Otto give us anything? The Bulls have real legitimate big questions even if healthy.  They should be good enough to win much more than they are if that happens, but we haven’t consistently seen that prior to the injuries so it is hard to hope too much.  Also, the Bulls just seem doubly cursed by injuries. Deciding factors: Otto Porter may just shut it down. Lauri may not return in Feb. Wendell Carter may not return in Feb. Who knows what will happen with our guys that are not injured yet. Bulls Podcast #53 – Artis Gilmore
Interview with Artis Gilmore Early Life Artis Gilmore was born in Chipley, Florida as one of 10 children. He was reared there, and attended Roulhac High School. Gilmore was 6’5′ at age 15. When public schools were integrated, he attended Chipley High School for one week before leaving home to attend Carver High School in Dothan, Alabama, a larger community 35 miles to the north. He graduated from Dothan’s Carver High School in 1967, at 6’10” as a Third Team All-American. A star center during his two collegiate years at Jacksonville University, Gilmore led the Dolphins to the NCAA Division I championship game in 1970, where his team was beaten 80–69 by the UCLA Bruins. Gilmore remains the top player in rebounds per game in the history of NCAA Division I basketball. Artis Gilmore followed five All-Star seasons with the Kentucky Colonels of the ABA by becoming the first overall pick in the 1976 ABA Dispersal draft, which dispersed the players in the ABA clubs, such as the Colonels, that did not join the NBA. During his career, Gilmore was an 11-time All-Star, the ABA Rookie of the Year, and an ABA MVP. Nicknamed “The A-Train”, the 7 ft 2 in Gilmore once played in 670 consecutive games. There was also John Paxson and Charles Oakley. To me at the time, and obviously history reflects that this was the year that the Bulls really started to put things in the direction of a championship and that the pieces were there to make a run.  Today everyone on that team is revered as being part of the Bulls evolution. You played just a half a season with the Bulls that year, but I watched every game that year. OK, we have MJ, that’s a given, but I know your brief comeback had a HUGE part in the boost in culture on the floor. Did that start in training camp and in practices?   It’s interesting how we look at rookies in the Bulls rosters of recent years and make comparisons to Pippen or Grant when they were younger. But you were actually there when Pippen and Grant were young. When you reported to training camp that year, what was your first impression of Pippen and Grant?  What did you see as a seasoned vet when you practiced with them? What advice were you able to give them as young men of just 21 years old, about the game and about being a professional basketball player.  Being the vet with such established tenure, are there any stories of early in-practice challenges that didn’t go so well for your opponents? Looking Back As we read through all your accolades in terms of basketball accomplishments, it all sounds absolutely amazing.  But as I know, as Wyse knows and our listeners know, you don’t get success without a lot of pain and failure in the process. What is the thing that you tell yourself every day that helps you overcome the negative forces in life and keep on pushing forward? And throughout those successes, what was the biggest price you had to pay to get there? What NBA fans might not realize is that famed broadcaster Hubie Brown coached you. First, Let’s acknowledge Hubie for being such a great basketball broadcaster. To go from a coach to a broadcaster isn’t an easy feat. We see very few actually do it well. Even more so, his knowledge of the game helped to educate the fan’s knowledge of the workings of the game at such a high level. Sometimes while watching the game I felt like Hubie was coaching the game just for the audience. It felt like you were inside the game. Tell me about working with Hubie as a person. One would think that he’s got basketball on the mind 24/7, but what’s Hubie like as a person both a coach and a friend? Game IQ There a lot of articles that talk about your career and they mention a common phrase that you hear of great players, and that is that they have a strong basketball IQ. A student of the mechanics and fundamentals of the game. How did you study the game throughout the evolution of your career? Was there an influential moment or influential person that helped you to advance your studies of the game? What tips have they shared with you that helped you learn the game even faster? The Game Has Changed. Or Has it? A few things about the game of basketball have trended in certain directions. There are certainly more 3 point shot attempts these days. We have instant replay and coaches challenges. There is a perception that the league is much softer from a physical contact perspective, or that there is a load management controversy.  But beyond all those things, the rim is still 10 feet up.. The free throw line is still 15 feet away. You still have to be an incredibly conditioned athlete to make it in the NBA. There is always a foundation of the game that will never change.  But are there some things about the game, either newly implemented changes that you’d like to see phased out, or perhaps even are there things that you would like to see added to the game?  We have shootouts in hockey. What about having overtime be a 3 on 3 game or something crazy like that? What are some of the wildest things you’ve been pitched regarding game changes? Social Media So many aspects of the NBA are dependent on the promotion through social media. From the players and the brands that they get paid by to clothing deals, product placement and even using the fanbase as leverage. How do you think your career would have been different if you had to endure the social media exposure of today’s NBA player?  What do you think, if social media was around in your playing days, What would you be snapshotting throughout your playing days that you would want to post and share with the fans out there during your ABA and NBA journey? What funny moment do you look back on and wish there was a camera rolling so you could let everyone in on the moment? Celebrities Wyse and I are having a lot of fun in doing what we do. Sometimes it seems kind of surreal in the celebrities that we make contact with just doing this podcast. It’s a given that the NBA is also fueled by celebrity appearances and you see a mix of player and celebrity together in plenty of social media posts every day. When you look back at it, who are some of the celebrities that you met and hung out with that you just had to pinch yourself that you were with? Are there any unusual activities that you found yourself doing with celebrities of the era? Either planned or by chance meeting? Strongest NBA Player Ever? There are a lot of posts out there that say you were one of the strongest NBA players ever. The images of you playing for the Bulls show that in modern terminology, you’re pretty jacked in terms of body structure, even at your height. Let me share with the audience what others have said about your strength  “Artis Gilmore was a monster. The strongest man I have ever seen in this game, ever” – Dominique Wilkins “He was so difficult to guard. The biggest, strongest most powerful player.” -Bill Walton What emphasis on working out and strength building did the teams put out there? What was your personal workout routine? What was your diet regimen at the time? Physical Recovery Late in Career You played until your late 30s and started 23 out of 24 games you played for the Bulls in your final year and still averaged 15 minutes a game..  When the league was still rough business and very physical, you’re 38 and banging in the paint with guys almost half your age and probably getting pretty banged up yourself. What was your health routine in those later years of your career?  Currently you see guys doing cryo therapy, kinetic tape, sleep monitoring, electro-muscle stimulation, and on and on. What was your physical recovery routine for those days? An ice tub? Sauna/Steam? What was available to you and how did you maintain? Post Career Health Seemingly you have had the fortune to leave the NBA in relatively good health and have an active lifestyle now. We see you still love playing in golf tournaments throughout the country. Are there any injuries or other factors from playing basketball that still affect you today? What does the NBA do for retired players regarding health care?    NBA Video Games I’m not really one to use my time to play any video games, but I am aware via YouTube that you are actually a really popular player in the game and your NBA2K rating is 97! I’ve even seen a game on youtube where your player character scored 65 points and 40 rebounds against the modern Lakers team! The Diamond Artis Gilmore player is actually quite popular.  Every player seems almost giddy at seeing themselves in a game. What kind of reaction do you feel when you see yourself those NBA games and see all the other players, even old guys you played with, having their likenesses and game styles being represented? If there is a classic matchup that you’d put together, what players, past or present would you love to compete against, if only in a game? Personally I would love to see Artis vs Shaq or Artis vs Anthony Davis or Wilt Chamberlain. Is there a computer generated battle that you’d love to see, even if just for the fun of it? NBA G-League What are your impressions of the G-League as an option for young men to break into the NBA in an alternate way? We’ve had a number of G-League standouts come to the Bulls and have a really good career, including guys on the current roster.  Plan B In the back of your mind while you were playing, I’m sure the thought of a career ending injury is in the back of your mind in terms of being prepared in your life and career. What was your backup plan during those years? What was your fallback if your career had not been as long? ….LISTENER QUESTIONS…   Ryan Miller in Perth, Australia Have the Bulls ever offered to retire your number and raise your jersey to the rafters of the United Center. If not, do you know the process to nominate you for that? Kenyatta Wright from Bullseye group on FB Do you think traditional centers, that play like actual centers, like he played, will return to the game in an abundance? Kenneth Sims from Joliet, IL What do you think your numbers would be in today’s NBA game? Wilt once said he could score 70 a game when asked the same question in 1997. Mitchell Tate in Shreveport, LA Life on the road brings about the chance to try different regional foods. Is there anyplace that you loved eating at on the road that is still open today? Henry J in Rotterdam, Netherlands What other sports would you have been amazing at? I imagine you would be one of the best linebackers of all time, or at least an amazing kick blocker. Bulls Podcast #52
It’s the Bulls Podcast #52 hosted by Marcus Couch and Wyse Black with guest Kenyatta Wright. We’ve got full Bulls vs Celtics Reaction, our State of the #Bulls, Trade Rumors and Game predictions for the coming week. Welcome to the Bulls Podcast, coming to you from BullsPodcast.com. This is where we bring you the latest news, reviews, rants, rumors and opinions on the players, coaches and front office of the Chicago Bulls. And this week we pleased to present regular contributor Kenyatta Wright to the show. We’ve got several topics for this episode. Including: Bulls vs Celtics Rundown Bulls Trade Rumors State of The Bulls Game predictions for the coming week Bulls vs Celtics Post-Game Tonight the Chicago Bulls took on the Boston Celtics in Boston and got blown out 1XX – XX. The Bulls made it a game throughout most Gordon Hayward and Jayson Tatom padded their lead the whole way through and the Bulls expectedly lost the game. In fact, 6 Celtics scored in double figures on our defense. We wouldn’t stop anyone tonight. And no wonder.. Lauri sat out most of the game. Bulls Trade Rumors Denzel Valentine It may not be the move that propels this team in the right direction, but it’s clear that small forward Denzel Valentine needs to be traded before the deadline this season. It’s not entirely his fault, but both sides seem to want to move on. Valentine played limited minutes this season despite the Bulls being thin at forward due to injuries. He was getting some playing time up until last week when Boylen reportedly told him he was out of the rotation. It’s surely frustrating to get the news you won’t be playing regularly anymore, but Valentine clearly wanted more of an explanation than what he got from Boylen. He spoke to the media before Saturday’s game and said this about the situation [Via Chicago Sun-Times]: “I’m definitely not happy about it. I’m a competitor. I want to play, I want to be productive, I want to help the team win. But that’s out of my control…[Boylen] kind of told me a couple of games ago that I was out of the rotation. He didn’t really say why.” Valentine kind of trailed off after this and didn’t say more about Boylen’s conversation about his spot on the team. Even though Valentine didn’t go scorched Earth with the media on Saturday, it’s clear he’d rather play elsewhere. The Bulls may not be able to get much in return for Valentine, but if they can get someone that would fit into the rotation it’d be an improvement. Even if it was just an end of the bench type of guy, it’d be a slightly better fit. Acquire center Andre Drummond from Detroit While Valentine may or may not be involved in this move, the Bulls could actually pull off a trade for center Andre Drummond. The center for the Detroit Pistons is a player who many were expecting more at this point in his career. Despite Drummond playing in his eighth NBA season this year, he’s only 26 years old. He’s got a player option he could exercise for the 2020-2021 season, but he could be an unrestricted free agent after this season. It would require a lot from the Bulls to acquire Drummond, but reports suggest that the Pistons are determined to trade him before the NBA trade deadline this season. The Bulls could make an offer as it appears several other teams have already. It would be great if we could get Rose in the deal too… Others on the Block: EVERYONE but Lauri, Zach and Coby. State of the Bulls At 14-27 there isn’t much to say about the Bulls except we need a new coach, a new lineup and a new Front Office. It’s a wonder this team has any fans left at all, but we’re still here, with hope in our hearts and prayers in our mind for the team to deliver us from mediocrity. Time will tell what this season turns out to be and what trades may happen in the next few months, but one thing is for sure.. This isn’t the Bulls team that they sold us at the beginning of the year. Improvements need to happen right now. We interviewed Bulls #53, Artis Gilmore. We’re going to release that on Tuesday, January 21st. You MUST listen to this episode because Artis is a LEGEND. He’s arguably one of the greatest centers to ever play the game. Certainly the best Bulls center by far. He deserves to have his number retired. And Wyse and I are going to gather the troops, circle the wagons and start a campaign to get his number retired. It wouldn’t take much, and this would be the year to make that push as a fan. The owners would probably do it just to give the fans SOMETHING this year. Bulls Podcast #51
It’s the Bulls Podcast #51 hosted by Marcus Couch and Wyse Black. We’ve got full Bulls vs Pelicans Reaction, Our #Bulls 2020 Resolutions, Trade Rumors and Game predictions for the coming week. Welcome to the Bulls Podcast, coming to you from BullsPodcast.com. This is where we bring you the latest news, reviews, rants, rumors and opinions on the players, coaches and front office of the Chicago Bulls. We’ve got several topics for this episode. Including: Bulls vs Pelicans Rundown Bulls 2020 Resolutions Game predictions for the coming week #51 Bulls Players And as you heard in the intro by none other than #51, Ryan Arcidiacono, it’s episode 51 of the Bulls podcast. (We’re stepping things up here in the new year Wyse!). Now we’re getting the actual players to get in on the episode numbers being their jersey numbers. And we will say this is just kind of a teaser by mentioning that, because another player with a number in the 50’s is going to make an appearance on the show soon too.. And it’ll be more than an intro… Beyond Ryan Archidiacono as our featured #51, the Bulls also had a few others that wore that jersey number. In addition to Arch, we have only 2 others to have number 51. Michael Ruffin was the first to wear #51. He was drafted by the Bulls in the 2nd round (3rd pick, 32nd overall) of the 1999 NBA Draft. Next, Lawrence Funderburke wore #51 in the last year of his career as he joined the Bulls briefly in 2005 after missing the previous season due to an Achilles injury. He played in 2 regular season games and 5 playoff games for the Bulls in 2005 before closing out his NBA career as the season ended. Bulls vs Pelicans Post-Game Tonight the Chicago Bulls took on the New Orleans in The Big Easy and lost 123 – 108.  The back-and-forth contest wasn’t the prettiest game either team will play all year. Both squads struggled to find an offensive rhythm while continually turning the ball over.  There was hope at the beginning of the week that Wednesday would serve as rookie phenomenon Zion Williamson’s first game of the season, but the team has still been treating its franchise player with an abundance of caution in the wake of his preseason knee injury.  Notable Performers:  Zach LaVine, G, Bulls: 32 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds Kris Dunn, G, Bulls: 15 points, 6 assists, 5 steals, 4 rebounds Brandon Ingram, SF, Pelicans: 29 points, 11 assists, 8 rebounds Derrick Favors, PF, Pelicans: 12 points, 9 rebounds Jaxson Hayes, C, Pelicans: 14 points, 12 rebounds, 4 blocks  Our Bulls 2020 Resolutions With the start of the new year, we’re going to present a number of resolutions for the Chicago Bulls to consider and strive for during the remainder of the 2019-2020 season. Zach Lavine to the All Star Game and Dunk Contest Derrick Rose is already coming home to compete in the Skills Contest during All Star weekend. Why not make it a Chicago affair by commiting to the dunk contest? Zach is carroting the all star votes, saying he only wants to enter the contest if he’s also an All Star. There is a lot of competition in the East, and voting is going in all directions, even to DRose.  Lauri Markkanen locks in on Beast Mode He’s getting better here as we approach half way into the season, but Lauri is still nowhere near the beast he was projected to be. What do you have to lose Lauri? Tear it up! Get so aggressive that it’s actually offputting to opponents. Play a little dirty. You’ve earned the league currency with the refs that y ou can get away with some of that. Take over games the way Zach does. We need you. Resign Kris Dunn for 3 years, 12 million per year. Where would this put Dunn in the ranks of highest paid point guards? https://www.spotrac.com/nba/rankings/point-guard/ Make the Playoffs I think it’s pretty safe to say that we can make the playoffs this year, barring some catastrophic injury. The Bulls have been putting together some great games in the last month, and if we keep the momentum going, we can certainly peek our heads into the playoffs as the 7th or 8th seed. Avoid trade distractions There are a lot of posts on the Internet about trading away parts of the Bulls core. From Lavine and Lauri trades to Otto Porter and Thad Young being rumored on the block. We shouldn’t be paying mind to any of these distractions. We have a good core that can play ball when motivated to do so. If these guys gel together as the season progresses, we could be in the hunt. Don’t get led astray by trading away assets and taking on other team’s bad contracts.   Let’s predict our next few games for the coming week FRIDAY JAN 10  7:00PM CT Indiana @ United Center Marcus: W Wyse: W SATURDAY JAN 11  6:00PM CT @ Detroit Little Caesars Arena Marcus: L Wyse: W MONDAY JAN 13  6:30PM CT @ Boston TD Garden Marcus: L Wyse: L WEDNESDAY JAN 15  7:00PM CT Washington @ United Center Marcus: W Wyse: L   Wyse Social Links:   Twitter: http://twitter.com/radical_creator   Instagram: http://instagram.com/radical_creator YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6vBYCVNxRnzuxvdQVkWfgg     Marcus Social Links   Twitter: http://twitter.com/marcuscouch   Instagram: http://instagram.com/marcuscouch     Everything show related you can find @bullspodcast. Including: Bulls vs Wizards Rundown #Bulls Christmas List – What do we wish for? Game predictions for the coming week Bulls vs Wizards Post-Game The Bulls hit DC in what we hoped would be an easy W against a limping Washington Wizards team with nearly 6 players for the Wizards listed as out of action. An easy win? Not exactly. In fact, we needed until the last minute of OT to pull off the one point victory. Lauri Markkanen led the Bulls with 31 points and 9 rebounds. It was a Sato revenge game of sorts, as he had 17-7-7 in his return to DC. Zach Lavine went 11-11 from the line including 4 nail-biting free throws down the stretch. Bulls Podcast #48
It’s the Bulls Podcast #48 hosted by Marcus Couch and Wyse Black with guest Kenyatta Wright. We’ve got full Bulls vs Hawks Reaction, Our State of the #Bulls, The Rumor Mill and Game predictions for the coming week. Welcome to the Bulls Podcast, coming to you from BullsPodcast.com. This is where we bring you the latest news, reviews, rants, rumors and opinions on the players, coaches and front office of the Chicago Bulls. We’ve got several topics for this episode. Including: Bulls vs Hawks Rundown State of the Bulls: Is Lavine Turning The Corner to Elite Status? Game predictions for the coming week Bulls vs Hawks Post-Game The Bulls took on the equally miserable Atlanta Hawks at the UC on Wednesday night. Forget about the Jabari Parker Revenge Game Part 2. This one was all Bulls from start to finish. The Bulls won with a 4-year record for team points with a score of 136-102. Zach Lavine seemed to have an answer for critics, and the calls on social media for his trade to another team for seemingly nothing. He’s definitely on a mission and with tonight’s performance of 35 points in just 25 minutes, including 7 threes. This was capped off with Lauri chipping in 22 points in 23 minutes. The offense had 32 assists in a complete victory. The new pairing of Denzel Valentine and Daniel Gafford is appearing to be a formidable duo off the bench for the Bulls with some productive play together. But when it came to the win, Bulls Head Coach Jim Boylen gave a lot of credit to Kris Dunn with the way he played against the Hawks, especially guarding Trae Young. Boylen: “KD is a good player. He’s a top-level defender in this league.”     State of The Bulls:  Coach Boylen: “Zach wants to be great. He’s working. His habits are good. I’m happy for him.” Question for the panel: Is Zach Lavine turning the corner, even if the Bulls haven’t found their winning ways yet? Can he be a team leader, an all star and consistently play at an elite NBA level? Last week Wyse and I go every game right except for the Golden State loss. Which don’t get me started on that trash fire of a game.. Bulls vs Memphis Grizzlies Post-Game The Bulls took on the short-handed (Without Ja Morant) Memphis Grizzles tonight, leading the game wire to wire and winning with a final score of 106-99 The Bulls finally got their first back to back win, but at the expense of Memphis, a game worse than the Bulls coming into tonight’s action. Zach Lavine led all scorers with 25 and 6 rebounds in 33 minutes Wendell Carter Jr continues to be the double double machine with 16 points and 13 rebounds Lauri Chipped in with 15 points going 4-8 from 3 and 5-9 overall. Kris Dunn, and Tomas Satoransky both scored in double figures for the Bulls. Notable is Coby White going 1-8 and ending with just 3 points. He is fun to watch, but we’re seeing just how hot and cold Coby is with his streaks. He’s either on or off. Not much in-between. State of The Bulls: Chicago Bulls head coach Jim Boylen’s message to Bulls fans: “We have a young, competitive team that is working and learning. I understand your frustration with not winning more. But this is a team that is improving and trying and caring.” Rumor Mill: Lauri on the trade block all over social media Jerry Cleans House: Gar OUT? Doug Collins as Interim Coach at the same time?
