You may not think much when you hear the name UNC Charlotte. Even Coach Holly Clark admits she didn't when she was considered for the first-ever women's head golf coach back in 2015. But that has certainly changed. Coach Clark joined the UNC Charlotte coaching staff after 6 years as the assistant coach at Vanderbilt. Prior to that, she started the Carson Newman women's golf program. When the opportunity to build another program from scratch presented itself, Coach Clark and her husband headed to Charlotte and with that came a determination and confidence for not just building a program, but being one of the best. Coach Amy Bond didn’t have plans of being a college coach, but when the opportunity to continue playing professional golf while also being the assistant coach at her alma mater was presented, she felt like it was a no-brainer. That was the awakening of her new-found passion for being a college coach. She went on to be the head coach at Princeton for 4 years, before the chance to return back to Florida State as their new head coach was given to her in 2010. E20: Interview with Ole Miss Women's Coach Kory Henkes
Just as you have been competing against some of the same girls since you first started playing golf, Coach Kory Henkes and I were in those exact same shoes 30 years ago. From day 1 of playing SC junior golf tournaments, we competed against each other and that continued once we both went to college as well, she at South Carolina and me at Furman. Coach Henkes took a little different direction after college golf and got away from the game, but she found herself back in it when she caddied on the LPGA Tour and eventually landed a job as a college coach and well the rest is history (and discussed in this episode). As the head coach there at Ole Miss, she has taken the program to record standings in the rankings and secured the program's first SEC Championship title.
