Episode 35: TRE with Richmond Heath
A wonderful conversation with Richmond all about TRE (Trauma Release Exercises), bringing understanding to some of the phenomenon we see or feel during a Bowen session. Richmond a “Holistic Physiotherapist” and Bowen therapist is a very engaging conversationalist with a wealth of experience and thinking on combining his traditional Physiotherapy training with a trauma-informed model of health & wellbeing. Richmond has 30 years experience in a diverse range of fields from acute mental health & suicide prevention through to trauma recovery & elite performance. “No matter who we are or what we do, we all want to feel more relaxed, with a calmer mind, freedom in our body, happier in our relationships & at peace with our place & our purpose in the world. For others, deeper relaxation is about recovering & performing better – at work, at sports, in creative pursuits or simply being able to love & support our family & friends more fully & freely. Overlooked by western science until now, our human body possesses an innate natural shaking reflex that releases stress & tension below the level of our conscious awareness. We’ve all seen or experienced it – our hands shaking while public speaking or trembling after a car accident or a shock. Vibrating with excitement or even simple shaking during yoga or pilates or when maxing out at the gym. This natural reflex is not a ‘symptom’ of stress, shock, anxiety, fear, weakness or loss of control, but one of the primary ways our nervous system calms itself down & relaxes us. It’s a natural response you can learn to use in a safe & controlled way in the safety & comfort of your own home, simply lying on the floor or even in bed to help you sleep better.” TRE Australia Australian TRE Website – www.treaustralia.com Global TRE Website – www.traumaprevention.com Online Self-Guided TRE Course – www.trecourse.com Further Reading Suggestions: The Body has a mind of its own – How body maps in your brain help you do (almost) everything better – Blakeslee & Blakeslee – as discussed in the interview – about embodiment, mind-body connection & our body map & schemaThe Body Bears the Burden by Robert Scaer – the role of trauma in the body and physical health conditions – this was the book that changed Richmond’s paradigm and understanding of the role of trauma in the bodyShaking Medicine by Bradford Keeney – great big picture read about the use of shaking and tremors across different culturesThe Revolutionary Trauma Release Process by TRE Founder Dr David Berceli – best overview of TRE and its history including a bigger picture about trauma & the more spiritual dimensions of trauma recovery & growth The post Episode 35: TRE with Richmond Heath appeared first on Bowen Buzz.

Episode 32 – A Chat with Ossie
Recently I had the pleasure of having an extended chat with Ossie Rentsch. We got to talk about all things Bowen and Bowtech. Beginning, middle and end. A number of years ago I interviewed Ossie at an international conference in Italy, but sadly the audio recording was quite poor. I am very happy to have been able to revisit that conversation. Ossie first met Tom Bowen in 1974, and after he passed away in 1982 held the first seminar teaching his work in Perth 1986. I was curious to know what a day in the clinic with Tom Bowen was like, Ossie talks about how it was to follow Mr Bowen about and see him working on so many people. I have always marveled at how Ossie came to develop the notes which came to represent the teaching. Ossie talks about the early days and how he and Elaine came to teach in Australia, then to go across to America and then onto Europe. I come away thinking about how tenuous was the beginning of the spread of this wonderful modality we know as Bowen Therapy. If it were not for the tenacity, belief and drive of Ossie and Elaine it would I think have faded into history here in Geelong many years ago. I hope you enjoy my chat with Ossie The post Episode 32 – A Chat with Ossie appeared first on Bowen Buzz.

Episode 26 Bowen & Interoception with Karen Hedrick
Bowen & Interoception with Karen Hedrick Is this one way that Bowen Therapy helps us feel better? Karen Hedrick is a past teacher of health sciences, Bowen Therapist and Bowen instructor. In this episode of the BowenBuzz she delves into the world of the inner workings of the body and brain – Interoception. This may not be a term you are readily familiar with but as a Bowen therapist or body worker I think you will find very interesting. What is interoception? It is how we feel the condition of all tissues of the body, not just the viscera (organs) as was sometimes thought in the past. Interoceptive awareness is achieved through sensitivity to stimuli or sensations originating inside the body. These sensations provide the feedback necessary for trouble shooting and correcting imbalances in the body thereby helping to maintain homeostasis in the most energy efficient manner. Karen discusses the anatomy of Interoceptive “system” the free nerve endings and insula cortex in a way which gives us a grasp of this fascinating subject. “C tactile sensory fibres are responsible for pleasant touch, inhibiting actions of nociceptive (pain) sensory fibres, and signalling safety, not danger. They have profound importance for human health as they trigger a general sense of wellbeing”. Further information on Interoception and how Bowen fits very nicely into mix may be obtained from the following material: Craig, A D How do you feel? Episode 20: Meet the famous Aggie Aik
In this episode we get to meet Aggie Aik. The final in the series on Singapore Bowen. http://www.bowenbuzz.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Episode-20-A-Session-with-Aggie-Aik.mp3 Aggie is a pioneer of Bowen in Singapore where she works as a councillor and art therapist at a prestigious secondary collage which has about 4500 students. Aggie shares with us her experience of using Bowen Therapy in conjunction with her other counselling skills to assist the students with anxiety, stress, behavioural and other problems. I describe Aggie as a 5ft bundle of smiles; as you will hear she is a bubbly, happy person who has a calmness about her which just encourages you to trust her. It is easy to see how she would gain the confidence of her student clients. Although she tried to retire last year the school has asked her to remain for 2 days a week just to support staff. Other people who work with children in schools and the area of child protection are looking at using the model Aggie has developed to assist their students and clients. This is another wonderful story of how Bowen therapy continues to promote happier and healthier lives in the community. I am sure you will enjoy my chat with Aggie The post Episode 20: Meet the famous Aggie Aik appeared first on Bowen Buzz.
