Bossy Shorts – Ghostbusters!
On the very brief hiatus between regular episodes, Lisa and Jules saw the new Ghostbusters! And accidentally recorded this full-length episode masquerading as a Bossy Short. You’re so welcome! The post Bossy Shorts – Ghostbusters! appeared first on Bossy Britches.

#033 – Harry Potter Book Club
In this embarrassingly delayed second edition of the Harry Potter Book Club, Lisa and Jules are ready to talk about all things Chamber of Secrets, the shortest (maybe?) book in the series and one of the most upsetting. Comparatively. It’s a sliding scale, okay? Grab your copy and listen along as we convene the first meeting of the Ginny Weasley Defense Squad, question the poor planning skills of Lucius Malfoy, giggle about the fannishness of Special Friend of the Show Jason Isaacs (welcome to guest anytime!), and discuss all the many ways in which Harry Potter is a frustrating, endearing dope. #032 – Positivity
This week, Jules and Lisa are giving thanks for entertainment that doesn’t make you despair for the future of literally everything and everyone everwhere. So slip on your headphones and take a break from the doom and gloom! We’re talking about the power of positivity, the death of irony, the importance of making meaningful work, and what a gift it is to be able to make someone smile. Join us to talk about the impact of creators and performers like Bob Ross, Mr. Rogers, Meg Cabot, Aziz Ansari, and Lin-Manuel Miranda. And, of course, we wander off the topic quite a bit. Who else is excited for Creed?? Show notes: Mister Rogers defending PBS to the US Senate The post #032 – Positivity appeared first on Bossy Britches.

#031 – Spectre
A Bond movie is a Bond movie is a Bond movie. Right? Like a good romance novel, you get what you expect. Although the Daniel Craig era initially seemed like it offered something new (beyond the blond Bond) … uh, it doesn’t, really. Jules and Lisa dig into Spectre and try to figure out how it stacks up against the likes of Casino Royale and Skyfall, with brief dips into fandom’s obsession with the latest Q and whether swapping a couple of Bond girls would have made a better movie altogether. Oh, and how exactly can the next Bond movie integrate tentacle porn? Both agree: the less said about Quantum of Solace, the better. If you’re a noob to classic Bond, Lisa’s even got recommendations for you! Remember: nod and smile when she starts talking about Lazenby–no sudden movements!–and everything will be just fine. #030 – The Martian
Listen up, space nerds! This week we’re talking about the movie that doubles as our favorite recent catnip for space nerds, The Martian. Yeah, that’s right. A movie so good we’ll mix all kinds of awkward metaphors! Over two hours of people working together to do amazing things and save people. What a nice change of pace from all the murders and dystopias. Plus, this episode has it all: Sean “Dadbod” Bean, water on Mars, news cycle synergy, optimistic sci-fi, maybe letting Matt Damon stay marooned for once, the eventual director’s cut of the all-Chiwetel version (as the Martian! as the head of NASA! as the Rover!), the bullshit-ness of the Face on Mars, and Lisa’s continued, worrying inability to remember anyone’s name. If you have any recommendations for Mars content, let us know! The post #030 – The Martian appeared first on Bossy Britches.

#029 – Sicario
While Jules is on vacation, Lisa Eastham (Charter Member of the Roger Deakins Appreciation Society) returns to Bossy Britches to talk about Sicario–and we somehow do it without spoiling anything major! The latest from Denis Villenueve, this bleak, violent, gorgeous movie is the best argument yet for Roger Deakins to get that Cinematography Oscar (COME ON, THE ACADEMY). It’s also garnering a lot of buzz about Benicio del Toro’s chances for a second Best Supporting Actor award. And if Emily Blunt doesn’t at least get a nod, we’re going to freak. out. The Lisas are of course not at all biased about any of the above but very strongly believe Sicario is the logical choice for every award, as long as it’s an Oscar for Roger Deakins. — When you’re done with Sicario and your subsequent visit to the nearest puppy-cuddling party, check out Lisa Eastham’s The Roger Deakins Project! #028 – Zombies!
Welcome back to Bossy Britches! We have a very special episode of Between Two Lisas, with special guest Lisa Eastham. (Jules is taking some well-deserved time off, but she’ll be back soon.) This week it’s just two Lisas, talking about zombies. Talking a lot about zombies and other totally non-fictional Halloween types. First we catch up on the recently ended first season of Fear the Walking Dead, and wonder how fast it will overtake with the mothership. Then the Lisas go deep–real deep–on the old z-squad in general, asking the big questions about life (and love) before and after death, and making a VERY SOLID case for birth control in a post-apocalyptic environment. And we check in on Lisa E.’s general excitement level about Ash vs Evil Dead, which premieres on Starz on Halloween. (It’s very high, obviously. Obviously.) And to round out the show, Noted Horror Expert Lisa E. has some great recommendations for more can’t miss Halloween movie picks! — Check out the latest from Lisa Eastham at Cinefilles! Sidney Prescott: More than a Final Girl Coming-of-age horror and the dark side of female sexuality And Lisa Shininger’s Fear the Walking Dead recaps on The Televixen! Bossy Shorts – Hamilton
You still have time to enter our The Martian contest! Email firstname.lastname@example.org or comment on the site with your guess for the first time the movie made Lisa cry, for your chance to win a shout-out and an iTunes giftcard! You might have noticed that there’s a new Broadway musical that everyone* is losing their minds over: Hamilton, by and starring Lin-Manuel Miranda. It’s a thoroughly modern musical, with racebent casting of some very familiar Revolutionary figures, and a breakneck pace that slips from rap battles to Beyonce-style girl group harmonies. Lisa, who is as obsessed as it’s possible to be without forking over her savings for a ticket, catches Jules up on the show and the charmed life of Lin-Manuel Miranda. And, of course, no Bossy Britches discussion about the Revolutionary period is complete without some good hard burns on Thomas Jefferson. * Actual count: literally everyone The post Bossy Shorts – Hamilton appeared first on Bossy Britches.

#027 – Sense8
Special guest Carly Lane is back with Lisa and Jules to talk about the new Netflix series, Sense8, which was just renewed for a second season! If you haven’t watched yet, you should. Like, now. Now? Yes, go. But come back! Because we’re all about this show, from the delicious character development to the weightier issues of sex, love, communication, consciousness, childbirth, Jean-Claude Van Damme, family, loss, and trust. Okay, but don’t worry! It’s not about philosophy at all, that’s just a bonus! In their first(?) television series, the Wachowskis give us exactly what we want: explosions, a psychic orgy, betrayals, body sharing, machete fights, and did we mention the psychic orgy? Because that is definitely a thing. Awkward segue: what’s the first thing you would do with your sensate cluster? Let us know here or on Twitter, Tumblr, or Facebook! Bossy Shorts – Deadpool
Carly Lane is back with Lisa and Jules at Bossy Britches HQ to get over-excited about the upcoming Deadpool movie, with Ryan Reynolds reprising his role as Wade Wilson–maybe done right this time, even! (Are there pouches??) Here, you can watch the new trailer and get hyped too: Deadpool Is it February yet? #026 – Southpaw
Special guest and occasional boxing movie aficionado Lisa Eastham joins Jules and Lisa for a deep dark–and occasionally confusing–discussion about the new Antoine Fuqua/Kurt Sutter movie, Southpaw, starring Jake Gyllenhall, Rachel McAdam’s bandage dress, and Forest Whitaker doing the kind of acting work that deserves much better material. Tell us what you’re looking for in a boxing movie! Is it the blood? Brain damage? Redemption stories? That sweet walk music? Let us know here or on Twitter, Tumblr, or Facebook! Bossy Shorts – Netflix August
It’s been a wet hot American summer, but it’s winding down now. And you know what that means: time to burrow into the couch until you fuse with the cushions and lose yourself in so much Netflix you forget about the inexorable march of time and cold weather and the long dreary inescapable…. Sorry! Netflix recs! Lisa and Jules are joined by Lisa Eastham to tell you to watch a lot of great stuff! Jazz Age musicians and intrigue in London! Plots to break up Pablo Escobar’s cartel! Friend of the Show Gerard Butler playing charming and sweet! Russian and German snipers! #025 – When You Come Back
Lisa and Jules dig into the art of revisiting media with their customary laser focus, asking what it means to revisit a favorite in terms of personal experience and memory. From Pride & Prejudice to the Terminator franchise, A Song of Ice and Fire, and Star Wars before and after the Dread Remasterings, how do you approach a movie or book that you’ve experienced repeatedly? What new things do you discover? Are there things you avoid revisiting so you don’t disturb your original experience of them? Those aren’t rhetorical questions: we really want to know! Write in to email@example.com, or to our Twitter or Tumblr, or leave a comment below. The post #025 – When You Come Back appeared first on Bossy Britches.

Bossy Shorts – Magic Mike XXL
Is there really anything to say except: Lisa and Jules saw Magic Mike XXL, in theaters, in the daytime, and then giggled about it for ten minutes? Well, giggled and talked about how it’s a wonderful embodiment of a feminist agenda that not only values women and women’s bodies and women’s sexuality and women’s active participation but also shows how men’s stories can be told effectively using the same lens, without any of the toxic masculinity normally showcased by movies starring men with bulging oily muscles? Plus, you know, a road trip and dancing and stuff. Michael Strahan! Crotch thrusts! The post Bossy Shorts – Magic Mike XXL appeared first on Bossy Britches.

#024 – Harry Potter Book Club
It’s finally time for the first Bossy Britches Book Club! Lisa and Jules have a lot of feelings about Harry Potter, the first book, the Trio, the rest of the books, the movies, Minerva McGonagall and Neville Longbottom, and deathless prose, but our biggest feel of all is reserved for THERE’S NO SUCH THING AS A SORCEROR’S STONE. (Lisa also learns that she needs to start closing the studio door again or there’s going to be another co-host joining the show.) Ahem. We re-read the first book in JK Rowling’s series, and we want to know what you have to say about it, too! Leave a comment on realbossybritches.com, submit to the Tumblr, talk to us on Twitter, or email firstname.lastname@example.org! We’ll be discussing the second book, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, soon so get your requests and comments in now! The post #024 – Harry Potter Book Club appeared first on Bossy Britches.

#023 – Mad Max: Fury Road
In the immortal words of Immortan Jules: People are jerks. And especially so in Mad Max: Fury Road! If you subscribe to the Bossy Britches Official Position on Action Movies, we’re pretty sure you’ll find that this one has (almost) everything you want and crave and need and would fight for in an action movie. If George Miller is ushering in a new age of post-apocalyptic dystopias with fierce action, complex characters, and practical effects, sign us allll the way up. (Especially if they star Melissa McCarthy, cough cough.) And Lisa cracks open what might be a beer without muting her mic. Witness!!!! Bossy Shorts – Spy
Lisa has seen the new Melissa McCarthy movie, SPY, a truly ridiculous number of times for a movie that’s still in theaters. Co-starring Everyone’s Favorite Miranda Hart, God’s Gift to Comedy Jason Statham, and some guy named Jude, it’s a Bond movie without all the things that make Bond movies … pretty gross, actually. (But don’t worry, there’s plenty gross in this movie, too.) And Jules reminds the Marvel execs in the audience that Scarlett Johansson would make a pretty good spy movie heroine COUGH COUGH WINK WINK. Bossy Shorts – Jurassic World
It’s finally here! Jurassic World! Dinosaurs! Special effects! Action hero Chris Pratt! That musical motif! Lisa hasn’t gone to see Jurassic World yet (no-one tell 14 year old her, please, she’ll be so disappointed), and Jules is … Jules is totally fine with that, honestly. In this Bossy Short, they talk about whether not going was an excellent decision (spoilers!) and what they would rather see in a movie-money-making sequel to the Most Important Dinosaur Movie of This or Any Age. Jules and Lisa are starting a book club and you’re invited! Drop us a line on Twitter, Tumblr, or in email–or even here in the comments! We want to hear about your favorite parts of the books, what you would have done better, the best headcanon you ever dreamed up, and anything else you want to hear about on an episode of the Great Bossy Britches Summer Book Club of Many Many Feelings and Staying Indoors*! *Name subject to change, unless you want that on a t-shirt? We’ll talk. It’s finally a storm-free day, and the technical glitches have cleared. Time for a new Bossy Britches short!
