Whale Watching – A Great BC Adventure
In today’s episode of BC Adventure Show, Peter Stolting from Discovery Sea Tours, a family operated business that has been serving the Southern Gulf Islands since 2006, talks with host Kimberly Henrie about the fascinating adventure of whale watching. Whales Attract People from All Over the World As Peter explains, all marine life is fun to see but the star attractions are the Orca whales. Three different pods pass through the Southern Gulf area, although only one pod visits the waters at a time. And in the late spring, gray whales visit the area thanks to the decline of whale hunting. Tune in to hear Peter explain benefits of a whale watching tour, including: - No two trips are exactly alike, in regards to both season and time of day. - Discovery Sea Tour staff communicates with a network of boats for the best chance to see whales. - The whales have grown up around boats. One orca is over 100 years old and has trained her marine family to be safe with sailing vessels. - Travelling in a smaller scale boat allows for faster travel, better opportunity to see marine life, and stops for lunch. Also listen to Peter explain how passengers are allowed to peruse a book of dorsal fin pictures to help them know more about the Orca whales that they see while on the tour.
