Ep47 But I Need It For My Bandage Spec!
What makes a good healer? How can you tell how you or your healers are doing?
Things to keep in mind:
For new/inexperienced healers: when someone dies, it’s not always your fault
Your performance and what’s required of you is extremely dependent on those around you
Raid awareness/fight management (not necessarily exclusive to healing)
Awareness of where everyone is, who is standing where, etc.
Decision making - what spell do you use? In extreme cases, who do you save?
Fight management: anticipating damage + mana management
Synergy - understanding other classes toolkits, not just other healers, but what personals are available
In organized groups, learning to trust your other healers (CD rotations, etc.)
How to tell how a healer is doing
Meters, while not to be ignored, do not give a good picture of what’s going on
HPS does matter, but you have to also look at comp as well as gear requirements, etc.
Overhealing is a good metric to use when mana becomes a problem, less so once farm has started.
Who are they healing?
When are they using their CDs? Are they sticking to rotations?
Uptime
Wasting buffs and procs?
Just like every raider, personals
Healing comp
Do you need a certain comp to get things down?
Not unless you’re pushing top mythic progression, though you also don’t want to over stack a single class, consider their strengths and weaknesses
Enjoyment of a class and skill built over time will almost always trump playing flavor of the month.
Things to think about when going into a tier and as the tier progresses.
How many healers do you need for a given fight?
Is there a point where you want to start cutting healers for DPS? Is that the type of group that you have?
Tips for UI
Make sure you can see everything you need to with your raid frames. Good addons: Grid/Grid2, Vuhdo, Healbot, but Blizzard base are actually fairl
