2023 tournament talk dominates the episode with Chris, Gary, Ed, Gordon and a roused BWI cameo by Jimmy. The Coaches talk selections, refereeing in the tournament and interesting teams to watch. Special guest coach Ryan Odom joins the pod prior to his Utah State team’s NCAA Game 1.--

The Coaches are in Nashville, KC &  Chicago, as tournament basketball begins.   Gary thinks we should like Boheim.     As for  Patrick, he's a Georgtown treasure, no matter the coaching record.   The Coaches also discuss the games, the match-ups as teams get ready for long runs into March.   Chris asks the coaches what program they want to lead if given the chance.  How does a Dennis Rodman conversation come up with the Coaches?   Lots of laughs throughout.

Heavy on the college game this week.   Pistol Pete's scoring record is gone.  Where is Mike Brey coaching next and when?  Seniors are not really seniors when they play for one more team.  RIP, the legendary, Terry Holland.   Really, a Final Four without Ralph Sampson?    So many college stories this week, including many from guest, and Hall of Fame Coach, John Beilein.   It's difficult not to love the story of the Niland Brothers.   

This week, Gary is on assignment in Ohio, watching the Wright State Women.   In turn, we get a Jimmy impression of Coach Williams.    Priceless!  Before Yale's James Jones joins, tons of local hoop talk.   Gordon and the Coaches have thoughts on what's going on at Alabama.   We get some Coach of the Year nominations from the college game.  NBA chatter, and of course Coach Jones, with plenty of stories, and he thinks the DMV just has ballers on top of ballers.   No better high school hoops than the DMV.

 The Coaches acknowledge when your school is #1, it doesn't last long this season.     Shaka Smart is happy and it's showing.   New Mexico State is a debacle.   The Portal/NIL stuff makes it hard to have a true team that sticks together.  Trivia: Name 4 schools in the WAC?   NBA post-deadline talk... And we all know that shootarounds are for coaches!

Before the Coaches are joined by Vermont's all-time winningest coach and one-time Gallaudet Coach, John Becker,  Knoche starts with a discussion on the refs.   What do you do at the end of the game; Call Timeout or set up a set play?   Gary weighs in on Boheim's rant.   Early national champ picks.  Coaches talk NBA Deadline talk, Lebron and Kareem.   Not sure how the last Dead Tour, Bill Walton, and the states that have legalized weed crept into this week's recording.

Full Coaching staff this week.   Enjoy a trip around the beltway, as the Coaches review this past week's games, leading to many philosophical debates.   As the guys get into a NIL discussion, it's obvious the number of layers needed to peel off the onion to make sense of it.    Drew Nicholas joins the Coaches, talks about his career overseas and he does not disappoint with his stories.   Promise!

No Door Dash deliveries interrupting the Coaches.   The entire staff is on hand this week, as they share their disgust of the constant replay reviews and what it's doing to the game and the Refs.   The Coaches think the refs look lost; Gary blames the rules.   Tap shares his top five college venues.  Gordo is asking throwback trivia.  Jimmy's doorbell is ringing and of course, there is the Rui trade breakdown.

 The coaches open with a vote to have Iowa's Fran McCaffrey back to revisit the pod and they're still deliberating.   Big chatter regarding expanding the NCAA field.   Jimmy has some thoughts.   After 24 years, WVU drops Huggins' loyal assistant, and no one knows why.   High School, College, Pro; where has the five-man offense gone?  The NBA Trade Deadline is coming and John Wall is not happy with Bradley Beal.   

All five coaches check in this week with thoughts about Georgetown Basketball’s fall from grace, college scheduling, contact in the NBA and American University’s latest effort to fill the stands with elementary school students.

Strange start to the college season.  Who is really #1?   Can Maryland shoot?   Maybe they should prescribe the Don Nelson school of shooting... Over 38% let it rain, under, look to pass!  Moment of silence for Pistol Pete.   Technical fouls and forgetting your uniforms.   It happens, but how do you respond?   Some NBA talk, and no more hand-check.   Gary mini-clinic on the Out of Bounds Play....   The guys want Ledo gift cards!

The coaches are in recovery mode, following the Terps/UCLA game and their personal bouts wtih the flu.   Who is on the Mount Rushmore of college coaches/   No easy answers here.  Sean Miller and his book of truths are discussed.  The coaches can't make this stuff up.  This week, we have some NBA talk as well as a discussion on some possible NIL backlash when teammates know your deal!  JImmy goes back on the road.  

So much to talk about this early in the season, like refs quitting mid-game at Virginia Union a murder cover-up in the state of Nex Mexico, The Maryland faithful filled up College Park for the Illini game and Ed's take on the Precocious Neophytes of Duke.   And the coaches talk NBA talk and Gordon's early season gambling plays.     All that and the heartwarming news of Brittney Griner coming home.   

The coaches are watching tons of games and even attending some!  Discussions range from the ending of the Big10/ACC Challenge, storied programs falling quickly, no more bracket busters, and Jimmy's love for the YUM YUM Center's state-of-the-art bar.   The George Washington University's new head man, Chris Caputo joins the show.  He wants Jimmy to give him the details on Gary's sideline press.    Take an hour, you'll love it!

Gary and the boys are back.  From the tip, the coaches jump right in with their thoughts on the Terps, Maui, and the complexity of the gimme games affected by the portal.   What's up with the small crowds in large facilities? The coaches offer solutions, as well as thoughts on NIL and its true impact on the system.   Some NBA chatter too.   The guys are in mid-season form!

The Coaches have a lot to say as the season comes to a close.  First up, Jimmy gives rundown of his trip to the Big Easy.  Why isn't the Final Four always in New Orleans?   Of course, the guys break down the weekend and the Kansas win.   This brings the Coaches to discussing if you get yourself some outside counsel, can you really be caught cheating at the NCAA level?   Plenty of NBA talk, fresh with picks on who will win the NBA Championship.   You won't want to miss the quote machine on one Edward Tapscott.

The Coaches start with some high school all-star game conversation...Not what they used to be.   Gary sees who big value in the NIT.   Not just playing, but testing some rules.   Oh baby, this NIL thing, it's the wild wild west.   What's up with the BIG 10 always exiting the tournament early?   Final Four predictions.  Will Duke, do it?   And the Coaches give a little kiss to Tap's T-Wolves.

Get ready for a Sweet 16 Preview!  The Coaches give a thumbs up to Coach Willard!  And a shoutout from Jimmy to Ledo's for the wings at the presser.  How are coaches using the portal to get rewarded in the tournament?   What is the value of NIL to a player looking to choose a school or maybe even evaluate going pro or staying?
