Baseball and BBQ Episode 85: Bobby Valentine
We love our listeners and our guests so on this day of love we present you with a very special Valentine's Day episode, 85.  Bobby Valentine or as most people call him, Bobby V is one of the most loved, well known, respected, colorful, and celebrated ambassadors of the game.  His life has been what movies are made of and his incredible stories will keep you riveted. A former Major League Baseball player and manager in both the United States and Japan; he currently works as the athletic director at Sacred Heart University.  Many people know him for one game in which he was ejected and then came back in disguise, but that is a mere drop in the bucket in a career and life that is filled with special people and events.  He has worked for a man who would one day become President of the United States, been a restaurateur, a champion ballroom dancer, an ESPN baseball analyst, and manager of the New York Mets as they faced the New York Yankees in the famous Subway Series in the year 2000.We thoroughly enjoyed our conversation, and we hope you will too.We once again conclude the show with the beautiful song, "Baseball Always Brings You Home" from the musician, Dave Dresser and the poet, Shel Krakofsky. We recommend you go to Fifth & Cherry, https://fifthandcherry.com for wonderful cutting boards and  http://www.baseballbbq.com for grill tools and clothing for barbecue and baseball fans and the Pandemic Baseball Book Club, https://www.pbbclub.com  to find many of the wonderful books we have featured as well as some additional swag.We truly appreciate our listeners and hope that all of you are staying safe.If you would like to contact the show, we would love to hear from you.Call the show - (516) 855-8214Email - baseballandbbq@gmail.comTwitter - @baseballandbbqInstagram - baseballandbarbecueFacebook - Baseball and BBQYouTube - baseball and bbqWebsite - https://www.baseballandbbq.weebly.com

Baseball and BBQ Episode 83: Author, Thomas Gilbert & Paulie Gee of Paulie Gee's Pizzeria
Episode 83 has two phenomenal guests with so much to say that we did not have the heart to end the interviews, so we split the conversations into two parts.Thomas W. Gilbert is the author of How Baseball Happened:  Outrageous Lies Exposed!  The True Story Revealed.  The book shatters the many myths which so many of us believe are true on baseball's origins, and it provides fascinating stories about its many true founders.  How this great game came to be the sport we love today is quite interesting and wonderful.  Thomas takes us back through time and it is a journey you will thoroughly enjoy.  Part two is next and includes plenty of barbecue talk.Paulie Gee took some time to discover his true passion, but once he discovered it, he never looked back.  In just 10 years he has become a name synonymous with absolutely delicious pizza.  The high heat which grills produce is perfect for pizza making and Paulie is considered one of the best.  He says he was nervous about coming on since we have had many well known guests, but Paulie does not realize how excited we were to have him on.  Pizza, barbecue, and baseball are among the things we discuss, but you get the feeling there is not much he cannot talk about with an infectious passion.  Come back for part two, which if you can believe it will be even better. We once again conclude the show with the beautiful song, "Baseball Always Brings You Home" from the musician, Dave Dresser and the poet, Shel Krakofsky. We recommend you go to Fifth & Cherry, https://fifthandcherry.com for wonderful cutting boards and  http://www.baseballbbq.com for grill tools and clothing for barbecue and baseball fans and the Pandemic Baseball Book Club, https://www.pbbclub.com  to find many of the wonderful books we have featured as well as some additional swag.We truly appreciate our listeners and hope that all of you are staying safe.If you would like to contact the show, we would love to hear from you.Call the show - (516) 855-8214Email - baseballandbbq@gmail.comTwitter - @baseballandbbqFacebook  - Baseball and BBQInstagram - baseballandbarbecueYouTube - baseball and bbqWebsite - https://baseballandbbq.weebly.com

They're baaack!  Two great guests return for a spirited discussion on baseball, including who should get in the MLB Hall of Fame and, of course, barbecue.Kurt Bevacqua is a 15-year Major League Baseball veteran who played for five different teams, most notably the San Diego Padres.  He not only played in the 1984 World Series, but he hit two home runs in that series.  Staying in the Major Leagues for 15 years is no easy task, but he managed to do that and excel while playing with some of the game's greats.  He knows a ton about the game, and he shares his knowledge and opinions.  He was a huge hit the first time we had him on, and we could not wait to bring him on again.Doug Scheiding makes a triumphant return and awes us with his incredible baseball knowledge. Fascinating conversations with wonderful guests. Mike Nola is the official historian of the Shoeless Joe Jackson's Virtual Hall of Fame, http://www.blackbetsy.com/shoeless.html and we had the pleasure of learning a great amount on one of the biggest known names in baseball history. We were joined by our friend Gary Mack from Mets Musings and The Baseball Talk Radio Show as we all got the chance to learn the truth about one of the game's legendary characters where facts and myths are often confused. Mike tells it like it is or rather like it was and he is a great source for information on Jackson's fascinating history which even included owning a barbecue restaurant. Emily Detwiler is the CEO of the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) https://www.kcbs.us/ and as she was happy to point out, is a proud baseball mom coming from a family extremely involved in the game as her son, husband, and brother-in-law are all involved in baseball. Baseball and BBQ Episode #67 - Jon Pessah, Author of Yogi: A Life Behind the Mask & Jeff "Ricer" Rice of Dead Broke BBQ
Episode 67 will hopefully satisfy that insatiable hunger for baseball and barbecue which we try to so hard to feed.Jon Pessah took on a huge task by writing a book on one of baseball's most beloved icon's, whose reputation and life's work are part of historical lore.  It is a project which could overwhelm some authors, but not Jon Pessah.  In Yogi:  A Life Behind the Mask, we are witness to the story of Yogi Berra, from his humble beginnings through his 10 World Series Championships and the remainder of his life, where he becomes as large as—or maybe even larger—than the game itself.  Pessah shows the real Yogi, warts and all, but more importantly, we get to see one of our favorite characters of the game for whom he really was.  His interview will make you want to buy the book, and Yogi:  A Life Behind the Mask is one you will definitely be glad to add to your collection.Jeff Rice known to all as Ricer, is one of the special people we are extremely fortunate to meet in the world of barbecue. Look up his channel, Dead Broke BBQ on YouTube and you will discover incredible videos as well as a Sunday night live show, BBQ Tavern Talk where he interviews some of the most intriguing people from the barbecue community. His cooking knowledge and radiant personality are not only on display on his YouTube channel, but also on the BBQ Central Show where he is one of the monthly featured embedded correspondents. Enjoy part one of this interview and then explore his YouTube channel, Dead Broke BBQ.We once again conclude the show with the wonderful song, "Baseball Always Brings You Home" from Dave Dresser and Shel Krakofsky.Don't forget to go to http://www.baseballbbq.com for grill tools and clothing for barbecue and baseball fans. Please know how much we appreciate our listeners.  We hope that all of you are staying safe.If you would like to contact the show, we would love to hear from youCall the show - (516) 855-8214Email - baseballandbbq@gmail.comTwitter - @baseballandbbqInstagram - baseballandbarbecueFacebook - Baseball and BBQYouTube - baseball and bbqWebsite - https//baseballandbbq.weebly.com
