Tamara Murphy is a Melbourne based Composer and jazz musician, she is also the leader of Spirograph Studies, a group that is comprised of Tamara on Bass, Luke Howard on Piano, Fran Swinn on Guitar and James McLean on drums. Eugene Ball is a jazz trumpeter, a composer and an educator.  Ball has played with the best in the business, both here in Australia and on the International stage, he sits down and talks to us about what it is like to run his own band, what he learnt from being  a contributor and a permanent member of the Allan Browne Quintet. He also talks about the importance of not only being a Jazz musician  but also being an educator and the effect that has had on his development. We also hear music from Sydney band  "Green Thumbs",  they have a new recording we will hear a track from, as well as music from Melbourne based guitarist Matt Hoyne from his 2020 release  "Stories We Tell, Songs We Sing." David Jones is a master drummer,  percussionist, composer and a hell of a nice guy. David has been a monumental force on the world scene when it comes to his musical craft, he has played with some of the most recognised artists around the world and is known both internationally and of course hear in Australia, we talk to him about where it all began and how he discovers new sounds every time that he sits at the drum set. We also talk to him about the importance of kindness on the bandstand and silence as part of the musical experience.  We will also hear new music from Brisbane composer and pianist Louise Denson, she has a very fine recording out featuring the cream of the Brisbane Jazz scene. Daniel Gassin is a native Melbournian that has been living n Paris for the past 8 years, he is a composer, a pianist and he also has a new recording out released in April of 2021 called "Change of Heart" with his "Crossover Band."He has kindly taken the time to talk to us about how his new recording, the inspiration behind it and also the great musicians he has chosen to be apart of the "Crossover Band." He also talks about what it is like moving from Melbourne Australia to a melting pot like Paris to become a full time musician and how he was able to make the successful transition into the Paris Jazz scene. In this episode we will also hear new music from Nick Haywood, a Melbourne bassist and composer, he has a new recording out in September 2021 that features his long standing trio of Colin Hopkins on Piano and Niko Schauble on drum who is also the recording engineer on this project. For this recording Nick has teamed up with American vocalist Petra Haden who happens to be the daughter of legendary jazz bassist Charlie Haden. John Scurry is a guitarist, a composers and and painter living in Melbourne. He has a new recording out with his Band "Reverse Swing”  called "Early Risers" out on Lionshare Records.  He sits down and talks to us about how he got this band together, the process he takes to write this music and also what he uses for inspiration when writing this music. We also hear his take one what the Australian jazz sound is to him.  We will also hear a track from bassist and composer Sam Anning from his recording "Across a Field as Vast as One." MEATSHELL are an Australian experimental-folk duo duo that are from Melbourne originally from Brisbane, they have a new recording out Called "Since Subito" on Earshift records.  MEATSHELL are made up of Helen Svoboda on bass/vocal and Andrew Saragossi on tenor saxophone. The Australian Jazz and Groove Podcast is back with another season of fine Australian Jazz and Groove music. This Podcast is committed to bringing to the light some of the amazing composers we have in Australia in the jazz and jazz groove vein. This season we will endeavour to bring the latest releases from around the country.  Episode #1 of season#2  features Melbourne based pianist and composer James Bowers who has just released his first full recording entitled  “My trio Album” It features James on Piano, bassist Marty Holoubek and Japanese drummer Shun Ishiwaka. Not only does he have this project but James has worked with Angus and Julia stone, Remi, Sex on Toast and Vaudeville Smash and as we listen top tracks off this recording you will hear this diversity in musical palate coming out in the music.  We will also hear tracks from the Black Jesus Experience, Melbourne based ten piece band playing a danceable alloy of traditional Ethiopian song and 21st Century grooves.
