49. Let’s Go Sailing on the Whitsundays
The Whitsundays stands at the top of any must do list for those coming to Australia and for a very good reason. The Whitsundays has the Great Barrier Reef, warm weather and beautiful landscapes as far as the eye can see. What if you want to go sailing, though? With over 130 boats to choose from, which one will be right for you? In episode 49 of the podcast, we speak with Clay who is a dive master working on both New Horizon and The Clipper as part of the company True Blue Sailing. Clay originally from New Zealand, has found his calling in ensuring you have an amazing time while on these boats. The Whitsundays Asking a local is a great way to find out the best places to go right! Clay suggests the Sidewalk Cafe should you want to grab a coffee during your stay. Let’s face it, Airlie does have a reputation for enjoying a party. Clay suggests numerous locations including Downunder Bar, Mama Africa, Paddy Shenanigans and Beaches. Part of the best part about hitting the night spots is hanging with the group of friends you have made while on tour cruising the Whitsundays.   The two boats we focus on in this podcast are New Horizon and The Clipper. Both boats have large waterslides that allow you to take the action fr

48. Pursuing Dreams with Bucket Lists
Bucket lists may not even be on your list of things to do, but after this episode, there is more than a fair chance that will change. Have you ever truly thought what you want to achieve before you die? Have you ever thought about despite everything you have accomplished, whether it is truly what you dream of? Steph was living a happy life when she was involved in a horrific car accident that left her not knowing whether she would walk again. It was during that time she started to not only think about all the things she hadn’t ticked off but all the things she would love to add. Bucket Lists During the podcast, Stevie reminds us that life may not always go to plan, so when it doesn’t we need to embrace it and focus on what really is important to us. One of the best thing about bucket lists is that it really is a great tool to help navigate life and stay focused. Steph reveals to us three items that are on her personal list and why they are important to her. It is a great example of some of the ways you might start to create yours. One question that is important when you create your list or if you’re avoiding it, is are you being true to yourself. One of the best things about creating bucket lists is the belief it builds in you that you can achieve anything when you approach it one step at a time. So when you create your list are you going to create your dreams or someone else’s? All too often in life we feel the pressure to meet expectations of others, but maybe a list will reveal this is not how it has to be. We briefly touch on some of Steph’s must do’s in Cairns and she finishes the podcast off with one last awesome bit of advice. Enjoy this episode and let us know

47. Diving and travel
Do you love scuba diving and travel? Today we chat with Nick Barr who lives just for this. We cover places his dived all around the world and what pushes him to pursue travel. This is a short podcast but offers plenty of inspiration. At 25 Nick first packed up his gear and went travelling through South East Asia but by the time he came back he knew that he just had to travel his own country. Working in the outback regularly, he has found a great way to support his travel bug and an even better way to discover remote locations that most travellers don’t get to experience. We talk about some of the adventures in Asia including his work with Gibbons and their rehabilitation. If you have ever thought about volunteering for something like this, listen to Nick’s tips on the podcast and then check out their website. From there Nick really discovered his passion for diving and travel. We talk about how he went from diving in Western Australia to diving all through Central America. For those that get inspired by his stories of diving there he then shares tips and locations for diving in Western Australia. His stories about where to dive will leave you a choice of where to go as hard as which pack of Tim Tams to choose. When you come to Australia there is nothing better than getting out of your comfort zone. We talk about some of the real outback experiences you can have and some of the cool experiences his had around the Pilbara. He urges everyone to be inspired by his adventures and videos and to get out and go diving.

46. Five Essential Tips on Travelling Sydney
In episode 46 of the podcast, I fly solo and provide some great tips on travelling Sydney. From saving money on the transport system to the best nights out and cheap site seeing, I share some great value. At the end of the tips on travelling Sydney, you will find links to the podcast platforms, where I ask you to help me by rating and reviewing the podcast. While our Instagram is also providing great inspiration, I also ask you to join me over on Facebook where I am planning some live Q&A’s with you. Tips on Travelling Sydney Bondi Beach We talk about before booking your Sydney hostels, giving thought to location vs quality. Because of the competitive market in the city centre, the quality in the larger hostels is set to a higher standard. Those hostels are often more expensive but offer great “value”. Some of the smaller and less ideally situated hostels, charge less, but will not have the same standard. Do you know the best way to get around Sydney, and what day of the week is the cheapest? We also reveal tips on the easiest and least expensive way on how to save money while travelling in Sydney. Finding the nightlife in Sydney can be difficult if you don’t know where to look. Thankfully we give more tips on the places you will want to be visiting. From backpacker night spots, quirky bars and suburbs and even a classy Sydney nightclub where we tell you how to get free entry. I cover some great ways to use the cheap transport that we talk about. You could even go see my mate at Perfection Chocolates in Rose Bay for one of his delicious hot chocolates. Otherwise, take advantage of your beautiful location to go and explore some of the wealthier spots in Sydney. You will just have to listen with pen and paper to find out all of the great information in this podcast. I know we are all busy in life but if y

45. The Riverland Unearthed
The Riverland is a region of beauty made up of many small towns including Renmark and Berri. Whether you love nature, swimming, fishing, canoeing or living the dream on a houseboat, I suggest you read on. Today’s guest Lauren grew up in Port Lincoln but now calls the Riverland home. I first discovered Lauren when one of the posts from her blog riverlandunearthed.com came into my news feed. Straight after reading that first blog I jumped straight over and connected with her on Instagram. After seeing her on these platforms I just knew I had to get her on the podcast. When we kicked off talking about getting attacked by a 1.5-metre river cod, I knew we were on a winner. The Riverland One of the exciting things I found on Lauren’s blog was a FREE 7-day / 12 people menu for travellers renting a houseboat. Can you imagine how awesome it would be to take a boat down the Murray with 11 other travellers and having your shopping list delivered to your inbox? Lauren recommends you check out Green and Gold Houseboats at Waikerie and River Murray Houseboats at Renmark. We cover the cost and details of hiring boats, hangover cures on board and how

44. MillieGoes talks about what there is to do in Darwin
Millie joins us in Episode 44 of the AusBackpacking Podcast to talk about what there is to do in Darwin. Imagine having ticked off five out of the world’s continents before turning twenty-five. Well as Millie has achieved this you will understand, why I just had to talk to her. The podcast starts off with a laugh as Millie tells the story about her adventure of overstaying her visa in Cambodia. Just in case you are thinking of stopping in India, we also somehow diverse into ways to avoid getting sick in this region. So with time quickly getting away I moved closer to what the podcast is supposed to be about and talk about Millie’s New Zealand adventures. Everyone will follow a different path, but for Millie, time and circumstances saw her travel through New Zealand with Kiwi Experience. From the stories and laughs, we had while talking about it, I would highly suggest they make her their Brand Ambassador haha. From her skydive experience, through her time spent site seeing with them, I will definitely be checking their trips out next time I’m there. Millie Explores Arriving into Australia in March 2014, she was so excited to finally be stepping off the plane. We talk about some great tips on getting the most out of your east coast bus trip, so if you’re travelling as a single girl, there is definitely some great advice. Millie reveals how she fell in love with frozen yoghurt for breakfast, and we continue our laughs as we share Byron Bay stories.   http://www.milliegoes.com/ What there is to do in Darwin So we finally made our way to talking about Darwin and the great experiences that can be had there. 43. Five things you need to know about Byron Bay
Byron Bay is Australia’s most famous spot that is a must see for all travellers. In this episode, Korske and I discuss tips on what to see, do, and how to save money. Best of all, get your pen ready cause there are five things you need to know about Byron, that we reveal. The good things about Byron are its beaches, chilled vibe and a large selection of activities. The bad side is it can be crowded, expensive and you can get lost in the noise. In the podcast, we will give an overview of the area for those of you planning a trip. BYRON BAY For those regular listeners, you will know that I love the surfing in Yamba. Byron has some great surf spots and a lot of them are literally just over the hill from the main city centre. There are options to hire boards from most hostels to allow you to get out and refine your skills. Should you want to  get some lessons there are plenty of reputable companies. Some surf companies we recommend are MOJO Surf, Surf Camp Australia and one we haven’t used but had good feedback on is Black Dog. Byron Bay There are a lot of areas around Byron where you spend your day exploring. One of the cool walks is that of the lighthouse. The walk will take anywhere from thirty to sixty minutes, depending on where you leave from and your fitness. Once to the top you can also make your way to the most easterly point of Australia and grab a photo. A trip to Minyon Falls, is another must do experience, in this region. For th

42. What is there to do on Kangaroo Island?
Kangaroo Island is one location that unfortunately I have never been. Until Korske told me he was headed that way a few weeks ago, it had just always been a destination I would get to in the future. Knowing we were doing a podcast on it; I started asking baristas, shopkeepers, and other randoms this week as to if they knew anything about KI. I was surprised when hit with statements such as “the most fantastic place in Australia” and “the island that everyone needs to visit.” These statements had me pumped for recording day to come around with  Amy and Rubina from KI Adventures and they didn’t disappoint. These girls are not just great advocates for the island but had me laughing all the way through the podcast. Yes, they were representing Kangaroo Island Adventures and Sealink, but it was evident their passion and genuine excitement for this destination. There is so much great value in this episode so grab a pen and get ready to learn what there is to do on Kangaroo Island. We would also love to hear more feedback on our new podcast format so drop us a message. The girls tell us how you can explore this beautiful island with a tour, self-drive or even take your push bike if you feel the need. If you are going to head out with KI Adventures, then they transport you from Adelaide to Cape Jervis for the forty-five-minute boat ride. Kangaroo Island With all tours, you do have the option to extend your stay, and so the girls have suggested some great destinations you might want to stop. For those enjoying a drink, there are plenty of vineyards and pubs. Rubina’s best tip is to check out the new Brewery and the Honey Walnut Liqueur from the Spirits Distillery. There is no public tr

41. The South Coast of New South Wales
The South Coast of New South Wales is a pristine destination. The coast is littered with little towns, beautiful beaches and stories waiting to be written. You are applying for a second-year visa and yet you have discovered so little of Australia. Get your pen ready as we discuss but a few of the highlights of the south coast. Elle was somewhat comfortable and enjoying life when her parents more than hinted she needed to travel. After 3 years overseas she took an offer of a job away from home and has kept driving. While Elle would love the iconic Kombi van she has decided to prove it is determination and not comfort that will write memories never to be forgotten. Elle at Wineglass Bay The first thing Elle recommends is to get out of your comfort zone. You may have already travelled half way around the world but dare to get off the well-travelled routes. Like most she has chosen to study, however, she takes her studies on the road with her. “Study can be important but life experiences on the road will teach you so much university won’t” Elle talks about how she had to works 7 days to make her dream of travel a reality. While on the road she has painted, gardened and worked cafes to pay for her desire to travel. She reminds us that can travel or look for that perfect job but often not both. We talk about how her travels started with a quick road trip north to visit the Gold Coast, Coffs Harbour and more. It was the area of Bellingen that really created some epic memories. Destinations such as the Promised Land and Friday Creek are a must for those wanting a unique experience. South Coast Her trip to the south coast of NSW has seen her discover towns such as Batemans Bay which had some great beaches
