A Meeting with a Darn Cool Massachusetts Cop | Michelle Palladini
The world is changing and it’s a beautiful thing. Meet Officer Michelle Palladini. A Yogi Cop I worked with in Massachusetts. What a great spirit. Local fan favorite and award-winning Detective and School Resource Officer, Michelle Palladini is widely respected for her policing expertise, and commitment to the care and protection of children, and even more loved for her unrelenting positivism, and dedication to community. Michelle excels at her multi-faceted position within her Police Department, but she'll be the first to tell you her long-standing success is attributed to her living her dream job - and it certainly shows. Michelle is a dedicated yogi and also maintains a blog and online community dedicated to building community, and making mindfulness accessible in real life. michellepalladini.com If you are inspired by this podcast and the work Robert Sturman is doing, you can support us by making a donation here: https://robertsturmanstudio.com/podcast-donation/asana-society-podcast-with-robert-sturman Asana Society Theme Song Courtesy of DJ DREZ. Adrianne Haslet | #BostonStrong to the Core! and Beyond!
This is my definition of podcasting to the core — well, the only reason I started doing a few here and there. Two great friends just casually hangin' out, talking about life. One of my all time favorites. Adrianne Haslet is the essence of #BostonStrong and a triumphant warrior who started conquering marathons after losing her leg in the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. At the time she was a spectator and had never run anywhere in her life. Below is an excerpt from her website. Please Google her and visit Adrianne Haslet.com to discover so much more about this remarkable human being. “When someone tells you something cannot be done, it is more a reflection of their limitations, not yours” – Adrianne Haslet Adrianne has shared her story and philosophy with audiences around the world. Over her lifetime, she has transformed to become the powerful woman who bravely stared down evil and courageously faced the man who tried – and failed – to take her life and break her spirit. Adrianne teaches audiences how to look unflinchingly at that which scares you, and how to proceed despite your fears, step by step. Adrianne has spoken all over the world, alongside inspiring figures such as Vice President Joe Biden, President Bill Clinton, Martin Luther King, Jr., and many others. Her debut TED performance has been viewed over 6.7 million times worldwide, and her debut at TEDx Beacon Street has been viewed over 2.2 million times and featured on OptionB.org, the website founded by Facebook Chief Operating Officer and author Sheryl Sandberg to help others overcome adversity in their own way. Adrianne has delivered remarks to a broad range of audiences, from sharing commencement speeches and inspiring students to encouraging corporate clients in the medical and fashion industries. She is driven by a love of helping others to face their own mountains, whether speedbumps or Mount Everest. Adrianne has the tools to show you how to kick ass and be your own most courageous and powerful version of you in every aspect of your life. ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— If you are inspired by this podcast and the work Robert Sturman is doing, you can support us by making a donation here: https://robertsturmanstudio.com/podcast-donation/asana-society-podcast-with-robert-sturman Asana Society Theme Song Courtesy of DJ DREZ. The Marine on the Mat | Retired Master Sergeant Lee Beckler
conversation with retired Master Sergeant Lee Beckler. Powerful, moving, inspiring. "I’m a damn Marine and haven’t cried in a hundred years." After sharing this photograph of highly decorated Marine, Lee Beckler, he sent me a letter. A portrait of a soldier is never complete until they tell their story. The series was shot at the California Sculpture Academy and is called "Breaking the Mould." The title did not come until after we created in the dust and clay filled sculpture studios. In his own words, United States Marine Corps Master Sergaent Lee Beckler: I saw the photo of me sitting on the mat and fell apart for the rest of the day. I couldn’t even comment on the photo. I tried, but I couldn’t. I would just reach over and click “like” on different comments. I’m sure you are wondering what the hell I am talking about and why I am so messed up. My wife was wondering as well. I didn’t know how to explain it to her so I just grabbed my laptop and started typing. Attached is what I ended up with. You brought up demons, ghosts, horrors, and love … so much love. I’m a damn Marine and haven’t cried in a hundred years. This one photo tore me all the way down. I needed this release. ———————————— Have you ever noticed that when two people look at a piece of art that they usually focus on something different? Abstract art is a great example. You may see a horse running through the woods while another sees a narwhal swimming in the frigid ocean. In this photo, you probably see a man in uniform sitting on a yoga mat in an art studio with a dusty floor. Well, I am that man. Let me tell you what I see. I see a child that was beaten by his alcoholic father. “I probably deserved it.” [ scrape away some clay ] He beat my mother in front of me and my brothers. “She DIDN'T deserve it.” [ scrape away ] Finally, after all these years she is leaving him. [ more dust on the floor ] Why am I getting tossed back and forth??? [ dust ] My best friend killed himself. We’re just kids! [ scrape, press, dust ] I have to move out on my own, get a job, pay my bills and finish high school on my own. [ more dust ] I am trying hard to make dad proud but nothing is working. I’ll try harder. [ scrape ] I have to get away from here but how? I’ll join the military, that’ll make him proud. No. [ squeeze ] Going to war. I want to go. I need to go. [ press ] My best friend was burned so badly that I didn’t recognize him when he asked for help. [ take more off ] Back from war. He’ll be proud. No. [ dust ] He died. Damn it!! Why?? Just once!! Why didn’t you say those words??? PROUD. [ f!@k ] Regroup. My family. My career. Focus. [ dust ] Failed marriage. Kids won’t speak to me. I’m alone. [ mud, dust, scrape ] Career. New love. New life. Hope. [ dust ] Another war, deployments, will she put up with it?? Will she put up with me?? [ scrape away ] Dave .. my friend, my mentor, my Marine brother. Why?? Why did you do it?????? [ hell, f!@k, dust ] She did it. She stayed with me. How?? [ dust ] She shared her breath, her life, her yoga. I can sleep!!!! I can breathe. I can rest. [ dust ] This is what I see coming from the clay. Namaste United States Marine, Lee Beckler, founder of one of the most beautiful yoga studios I've had the honor of passing through - Sage Yoga Studios ~ Fallbrook, California. https://sageyogastudios.com/ http://connectedwarriors.org Lee retired in 2009 as a Master Sergeant after serving 20 years in the Marines. ——————————————————————————————————————— Asana Society Podcast is produced by Nir Livni, the Israeli tech guru! Kelly Kamm | Real talk about the yoga biz, social media and narcissism, backbends and Pablo Neruda.
Robert Sturman sits with dear friend and long time muse, Kelly Kamm. Some real talk about the yoga biz, social media and narcissism, backbends and Pablo Neruda. In Kelly's own words: "I have a confusing relationship with yoga photos these days... is it art? Is it self indulgence? Is it celebration of the body and it’s holiness? Or is it glorification of flexibility? I don’t have an answer because I think it’s somewhere in between all of those things (depending on who’s doing it, of course) and I don’t quite have a handle on it yet. I do know that when Robert and I get together, our intention is simply to create. The body and the camera are what we have, so we use them. Creating something is important. Thanks Robert Sturman, love you and our work together." Music courtesy of DJ Drez.... Asana Society theme song ~ “Selecta Move” Asana Society Podcast is produced by Nir Livni, the Israeli tech guru! With the support of Baron Baptiste and his community, the AYP organization facilitated the first yoga teacher training in Kenya and now employs local youth to teach full-time in their own communities. AYP programs offer free classes to over 6,000 students per week, simultaneously building schools and funding education, critical operations, and environmental endeavors.
