How to Create Confidence - Susie Moore - Ep 72
https://Art2Life.com - Have you ever looked at another artist, envious of the confidence their Instagram so clearly exudes? The reality is they are likely just as insecure as everyone else, but it doesn’t stop us from wishing we were like them. Then comparison starts us down a dangerous path of all the things we can’t be or achieve because we hate our last painting. Or we haven’t been able to sell our work. And the question inevitably floats into our brain: Am I a failure? The answer is a resounding no, but in that moment, it’s so hard to see beyond our current circumstances to find it. Meet life coach, writer, and podcaster Susie Moore. Her wizardry and expertise lie in helping people gain confidence, and today we are going to dive into what that looks like for the artist’s journey. Join us for a conversation about gaining confidence, getting uncomfortable, being your own life coach, and taking control of your story. We also discuss how to handle imposter syndrome, face insecurity, and acknowledge our worth to stay at our highest frequency. Overcoming What Is Hard in Art - Terri Froelich and Nicholas Wilton - Ep 61
https://Art2Life.com - One of the amazing things about teaching and participating in art workshops are the people. I’d say about half of the “aha moments” come from just sitting around and talking. You’re surrounded by all these artists from all over the world with a wealth of different skills and experiences and you get to glean from all of them. Add one or two cocktails to the mix, and now you’ve got the kind of conversations that can literally change the direction and quality of your art journey. On this episode, I’m bringing that experience to wherever you get your podcasts.  While enjoying some downtime from teaching a workshop in Mexico, Terri and I turned on a mic and had workshop participants ask their burning questions about art-making. Specifically around what’s hard about bringing our art to life and how to overcome those challenges. Take A Guilt Free Break From Your Art / Nicholas Wilton - Ep 59
https://Art2Life.com - How do you think of yourself as an artist? You may need to think of it more broadly than you’ve typically done. The reason is this: being an artist encompasses all that you are, everything that makes up your personality, perspective, passions, and existence. You can see that being an artist is much bigger than the fact that you create. I bring this up because there is a flawed idea out there in the artistic community, a crazy thought that we have to always be creating or always be making in order to be a true artist. I don’t know where the idea came from but it truly is insane to think that we have to be “on” all the time. So, with the holidays coming up we all probably need to be able to take a guilt-free break for the sake of your sanity. I want to share what I’ve learned about this issue in hopes that it will help you have a better perspective.  ================================ LISTEN IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN… Redefining who we are as artists [1:46] Breaks empower objectivity, which we desperately need [10:20] Being vulnerable with other artists helps you break through barriers [18:55]   ============================= CONNECT WITH NICHOLAS WILTON AND ART2LIFE: Get the Free COLOR TIPS PDF: https://workshop.art2life.com/color-tips-pdf-podcasts/  Follow the Sunday Art2Life Vlog: https://art2life.lpages.co/sign-up-for-the-a2l-vlog/  Follow Nicholas Wilton's Art on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nicholaswilton/  Follow Art2Life on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/art2life_world/?hl=en  Subscribe on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/c/Art2Life

The Luxury of Soul - Meryanne Loum-Martin - Ep 58
https://Art2Life.com - I recently returned from teaching a workshop at an extraordinary boutique retreat center on the outskirts of Marrakech. It is called Jnane Tamsna. Experiencing this place reminds me of 2 core ideas I teach artists to help make their art and, frankly, their life stronger: #1 Surround yourself with what brings you alive. #2 Never stop believing that whatever you can dream, more than likely, is possible. How can a particular place do this? How is it possible that experiencing the new feelings, colors and scents of this place inspire? How can the creative vision of one inspire so many? Today I am in conversation with the visionary designer and hotelier Meryanne Loum Martin. She has redefined luxury not in the usual financial way but in terms of exactly what money can't buy: Soul. She overcame and ignored prevalent racial and sexual prejudices and created Morocco's first lifestyle brand hotel. Today Meryanne and the places she creates are legendary. Icons of fashion, and design, as well as celebrities of film, dance. and music, all come to experience her contemporary, gorgeous lifestyle aesthetic. Her refined design sense, philosophy, and deep respect for Moroccan culture are all intertwined in a cosmopolitan approach to living and art now known worldwide as simply "Moroccan Style." Join Meryanne and me for this conversation about differences, mindset, and soulful opulence. We sit together amongst Moroccan antiquities, contemporary art and fresh-cut roses at her Moroccan destination, Jnane Tamsna.   ================================   LISTEN IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN… A snapshot of my experience at Jnane Tamsna [3:19] The importance of inspirational places and experiences [5:57] Examples of how Meryanne designs spaces that inspire [17:17] How Meryanne developed the name for her venue before creating it [29:48] Meryanne’s aesthetic: a daring, bold, creatively confident expression [35:48]     ================================ RESOURCES MENTIONED Meryanne’s book: Inside Marrakesh: Enchanting Homes and Gardens   ================================= CONNECT WITH Meryanne Loum-Martin Meryanne’s retreat center, where I taught: https://www.jnanetamsna.com/ Jnane Tamsna on Instagram Jnane Tamsna on Twitter Jnane Tamsna on Facebook ============================= CONNECT WITH NICHOLAS WILTON AND ART2LIFE: Get the Free COLOR TIPS PDF: https://workshop.art2life.com/color-tips-pdf-podcasts/  Follow the Sunday Art2Life Vlog: https://art2life.lpages.co/sign-up-for-the-a2l-vlog/  Follow Nicholas Wilton's Art on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nicholaswilton/  Follow Art2Life on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/art2life_world/?hl=en  Subscribe on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCe8dJWKgPKkW4W3fsb1vLeg

Living Color in Marrakech - Nicholas Wilton - Ep 57
https://Art2Life.com - I believe that art making is about choices — choosing what you want to keep in an d what you want to get rid of. What’s crazy, is that when you’re starting out on the creative path, those choices seem important and can be scary. There’s a lot of thought that goes into it because you don’t want to mess up. But what I’ve discovered is that as you get on down the creative path a bit more, a realization comes to you: To get somewhere artistically, it doesn’t matter so much what you choose when it comes to colors or shapes and such. The more important thing is to simply make a choice. That’s a different way of approaching art. It makes it a lot easier. ================================ LISTEN IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN… Why you must learn to simply decide and allow Art to become your teacher [2:24] Scenes from the backstreets of Marrakech [6:17] A conversation with children in the city, and a gift of candy [22:10] How memories of my time in Marrakech enable my art [24:32] ================================ RESOURCES MENTIONED Marrakech, Morocco ============================= CONNECT WITH NICHOLAS WILTON AND ART2LIFE: Get the Free COLOR TIPS PDF: https://workshop.art2life.com/color-tips-pdf-podcasts/  Follow the Sunday Art2Life Vlog: https://art2life.lpages.co/sign-up-for-the-a2l-vlog/  Follow Nicholas Wilton's Art on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nicholaswilton/  Follow Art2Life on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/art2life_world/?hl=en  Subscribe on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCe8dJWKgPKkW4W3fsb1vLeg

https://Art2Life.com - About ten years ago, I went to Mallorca, Spain, to teach a workshop. It seemed a long way to go, but what I found once I arrived made the journey worth it. I held the workshop in a gorgeous stone villa. There were old olive trees and the nights were so warm, starry, and still. Participants could drop into this place quickly. They felt more inspired as soon as they arrived. However, what stirred me that first time, more than anything, was a massage I signed up for on a whim. It turned out it was not so much a massage, but a reading. A spiritual directional clarification. It was like a mirror that made it possible to see more clearly the deeper parts of myself.  Meet Magdalena Segui Cerda. I have returned to Mallorca for over ten years to teach workshops and equally important, to work with Magdalena. She has an extraordinary, gentle way of helping others see and decipher their most genuine essence. I consider my work over the years with her as art and life guidance. Our best art comes when we look within ourselves and begin listening. There is wise guidance waiting within us all. Our souls already have the answers we seek. However, it is so easy to miss what is right before us. Magdalena has helped me see what I have overlooked. Join us for this conversation about the creative project we all share: The Project of Becoming. ================================ LISTEN IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN… Art as human evolution and the process of deciphering ourselves [3:18] The role of emotions in self-discovery and how art tracks our progress [12:44] Embracing the mystery within and understanding energy [19:15] Seeing our souls as a guiding force and the magnetism of our lives and art [28:44] Understanding intuition and the role it plays in authentic art [39:09] How Magdalena started her own journey and common challenges for those she works with [45:51] ================================= CONNECT WITH MAGDALENA SEGUI CERDA Email: magdalenasegui@gmail.com  ============================= CONNECT WITH NICHOLAS WILTON AND ART2LIFE: Get the Free COLOR TIPS PDF: https://workshop.art2life.com/color-tips-pdf-podcasts/  Follow the Sunday Art2Life Vlog: https://art2life.lpages.co/sign-up-for-the-a2l-vlog/  Follow Nicholas Wilton's Art on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nicholaswilton/  Follow Art2Life on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/art2life_world/?hl=en  Subscribe on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCe8dJWKgPKkW4W3fsb1vLeg

Making the Art of Light - Vanessa Marsh - Ep 55
https://Art2Life.com - Authenticity is often present in strong, moving art. This ingredient is a given. But sometimes art can be even more significant in feel. It can be universal. I can’t always put my finger on how this occurs, but I can recognize it. The work feels bigger. It references far more than what is contained within its borders.  Oregon-based artist Vanessa Marsh makes this kind of work. Her art is similar to photography, but on closer examination, it is not. Vanessa constructs much of her work using darkroom techniques, collage, drawing, and painting. Her varied images of landscapes, trees, and night constellations seem familiar, like a collective shared memory. They have a specificity but also remarkably a universality. Her work is beautifully varied, but all of it shares a common subject matter: light itself. Join us for this expansive conversation about constellations, human connection, and the nature of light. ================================ LISTEN IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN… Getting to know Vanessa Marsh and how her upbringing impacts her art [1:22] Reconnecting us to the cosmos [14:27] Painting in reverse and the logistics of Vanessa’s art-making  [20:24] The role silhouette and reduction play in Vanessa’s work [32:37] Keeping the work going and the road ahead for Vanessa [38:59] ================================ RESOURCES MENTIONED Adam Gerlach’s (Vanessa’s husband) website and Instagram: http://www.adamgerlach.com and https://www.instagram.com/adamgerlachphotography  ================================= CONNECT WITH VANESSA MARSH Website: http://www.vanessamarshfineart.com  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/vanessamarshphotography  ============================= CONNECT WITH NICHOLAS WILTON AND ART2LIFE: Get the Free COLOR TIPS PDF: https://workshop.art2life.com/color-tips-pdf-podcasts/  Follow the Sunday Art2Life Vlog: https://art2life.lpages.co/sign-up-for-the-a2l-vlog/  Follow Nicholas Wilton's Art on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nicholaswilton/  Follow Art2Life on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/art2life_world/?hl=en  Subscribe on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCe8dJWKgPKkW4W3fsb1vLeg

Don’t Be a Baby and Keep Making Your Art - Jerry Saltz - Ep 54
https://Art2Life.com - Making art is hard enough, but hearing from others whether it is good or not is especially so. Every artist I know already has, hard-wired within them, a pretty tough critic. I certainly do. So I never have been particularly drawn to listening to more of them. I know, of course, art criticism is essential in the art world. I get all that, but truthfully, I have always been a little leery of outside criticism in case it made me stop making art. It feels safer to hear more from those who are actually making art. They were the ones I thought whose voices mattered. At least for me.  But today you are going to meet an art critic. But not the kind I imagined. Not at all. His name is Jerry Saltz. He is the Pulitzer Prize-winning, senior art critic and columnist for New York Magazine. He has a bajillion followers on Instagram and is a New York Times bestselling author. He also cares a ton about art and especially artists. Which isn’t surprising because he was one. He switched mid-career because, ironically, his inner critic wouldn’t leave him alone, and it all became too much.  Jerry is whip-smart, funny, and at times, daringly truthful. But this is what I love about him: he just tells the truth. Or rather his truth. That is rare these days. Jerry is the artist's art critic. He is so on our side and wants nothing more for us than to simply stay together and above all else, to keep making our art. Join me now for this startlingly vulnerable and caring conversation about art and life with one of the most revered voices in the art world: Jerry Saltz. ================================ LISTEN IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN… How Jerry became a bestselling author and why you need to read his books [3:19] Becoming a different kind of artist and recognizing the respect in art criticism [15:05] Why artists need one another [25:48] Making an enemy of envy and why we need to just keep making our art [32:01] Where Jerry feels the art world is heading [39:15] Jerry’s advice for artists when they receive criticism and the time Jerry criticized my work [46:47] ================================= CONNECT WITH JERRY SALTZ Jerry’s Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jerrysaltz/  Riverhead Book’s Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/riverheadbooks  Art is Life (Book): https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/612485/art-is-life-by-jerry-saltz/  How to Be an Artist (Book): https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/612484/how-to-be-an-artist-by-jerry-saltz/9780593086469/  ============================= CONNECT WITH NICHOLAS WILTON AND ART2LIFE: Get the Free COLOR TIPS PDF: https://workshop.art2life.com/color-tips-pdf-podcasts/  Follow the Sunday Art2Life Vlog: https://art2life.lpages.co/sign-up-for-the-a2l-vlog/  Follow Nicholas Wilton's Art on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nicholaswilton/  Follow Art2Life on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/art2life_world/?hl=en  Subscribe on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCe8dJWKgPKkW4W3fsb1vLeg

How to Embrace Our Artlife - Edward Povey - Ep 53
https://Art2Life.com - At the beginning of making something, the artist is the fixed, central point that everything is organized around. It seems it can't be any other way. You are a singular artist doing something, chasing something to make something new. Often it falls flat but sometimes, a few sneak through. A couple of them are good. Maybe even for a short time, great. Interestingly, good art always seems to have a bit more authenticity. It's yours, but also theirs as well. In other words, the authenticity of the human experience seems to be the currency we all embrace. We all can relate to it. As the artist, we begin thinking the work is all about us. How could it be otherwise? Yet somehow, in the process of making, sharing, and showing our work, it becomes clear that others can find themselves in our art too. It no longer becomes solely about you. It is out of your hands and goes off into the world without even looking back. Of course, this is rarely the case for most art made. First, it has to be exceptionally authentic. It has to be poignant and stirring. It has to be unforgettable. Edward Povey, a British painter whose work can loosely be described as emotional realism, happens to be all three. Join me now for an incredibly candid, moving, and thoughtful conversation. Hopefully, it will be for you what it was for me: Unforgettable. ================================ LISTEN IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN… Edward’s origin story and how it informs his work [3:11] Creating community-minded art and unpacking inadequacy [13:16] Diving into Edward’s process and auditing an ordinary life  [17:04] Pythagoras, the armature of the rectangle, and mathematical creativity [34:05] Embracing uncertainty with honest inquiry [45:05] ================================ RESOURCES MENTIONED Biography from the Museum of Modern Art in Whales: http://media.icompendium.com/edwardpo_2.-EDWARD-POVEY---MOMA-Wales-2012.pdf   ================================= CONNECT WITH EDWARD POVEY Website: https://www.edwardpovey.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/edwardpovey Art Basel Miami showing (Nov 29th - Dec 4th): https://www.artmiami.com/practical-info  Visit Edward’s GALERIE BENJAMIN ECK showing in Munich, Germany (Oct 3rd - Nov 30th) by reaching out to: info@benjamin-eck.com  A future solo exhibition is currently being organized with Waterhouse & Dodd, New York, scheduled for Fall 2023.
