111 One way I stop the racing thoughts in my head, using the"butt in seat" method
Welcome to your daily dose of the “butt in seat” method, or what I call mindfulness! Really, it’s about not thinking about what already happened or what might happen, but about what is actually happening right now. But that is a hard place to reach without some guidance. My mind used to be like a racing car, accelerating always, and rarely braking. So much so that I told Dave, I couldn’t have this small household appliance in our room anymore. Any guesses? This episode was thrown together at the last moment due to FOUR of my episodes being cancelled since my guests were sick (yes, even with COVID!). So, I recorded on the fly and you can tell. Like hearing the English Mastiffs chewing on toys or themselves, in the background… Anyway, you will learn the steps to take to lose the crazy and calm yourself down. Some of the calming oils you can use with mindfulness are as follows (the blends are doTERRA brand): ·      Lavender ·      Adaptiv ·      Peace ·      Serenity ·      Balance Here are the names of the mindfulness apps I mentioned, available in your app store, Calm, Abide, Headspace and Smiling Mind. And the great short video that explains mindfulness really well? #109 Calming down your home environment by taking advantage of your cells' power
Listen as I talk about the difference between toxic thought and healthy thoughts. Did you know there is a physical difference in what they look like in your brain? Dark and light “trees”-WHAT??? Crazy, huh? Of course, there is my non-scientific description of a cell’s membrane and why some solutions we use can get into the cells to do the work. Other stuff we use cannot penetrate the cell’s membrane and really does no good if you are looking to boss your DNA around. One of the best things you can do to begin calming your home down and perhaps even making the environment happy *gasp*, it to STOP and assess what is going on instead of only reacting to that annoying stressor as it rears its ugly head. Look for The Essential Life book (the latest edition) for lots more ideas of what to do with your oils. Click here to get the PDF I put together for you with different diffuser recipes that will benefit all the peeps in your home and make the mood just what you are looking to achieve. But if you run into problems, do remember to: 1.    Have others and you smell it first 2.    If too strong, use less or change the oil out 3.    Switch recipes from time to time 4.    Use the timer option of your diffuser if it has one And, for the calming oils I mentioned, here is a list (blends and kits are in the doTERRA line). I don’t use yahoo, baloney items for our health, so these are the good oils: ·      Emotional (Aromatherapy System Kit) oils ·      Adaptiv Kit ·      Juniper Berry & Melissa ·      Balance & Serenity ·      Wild Orange, Peppermint & Frankincense ·      Citrus oils- Lemon, Grapefruit, Wild Orange, Lime ·      Stinky house- Purify ·      Lemon & Spearmint, what a blend! Here is a shopping cart to get started with some doTERRA oils to diffuse, (please watch the info video first): Ø Watch my video here about pure essential oils. Ø A kit with four calming and focus oils. You can add a Volo diffuser if you need one. And even the Emotional Aromatherapy System oils or kit if you want extra help reigning in the emotions. Just reach out on Insta, @_monicanordquist, and I’ll happily send you a new link with what you want in it. And please ignore the beep sound around minute 8, I think a notification came in on the laptop form my calendar. Okay, off to learn how to silence noises now… ·      Grab your freebie, 5 Easy Tips for Peace here: Ø https://anyalogic.mykajabi.com/pl/182861 ·      Sign up for email notifications of upcoming podcasts here, where you will also get my 5 Easy Tips for Peace audio training for free: Ø

#110-Calling all parents-have less pressure and more confidence in parenting, all from Parenting Coach, Melissa Corkum
What a treat! On today’s episode, we have special guest Melissa Corkum, Parent Coach and mom of six by birth and adoption, join us on Anyalogic. She shares the simple secrets to guilt free parenting, where you can have less pressure and more confidence that you are getting this parenting thing right, even in your relationships with adult children, grandchildren or your nieces and nephews. Melissa talks about the fragile nervous systems of some of our children and, in some circumstances, success is simply creating safety for all and staying connected with your child. I remember the time someone was asking me if her family should adopt and there were some situations that warranted her full attention at the time. I suggested that maybe now wasn’t the time. Safety for all. Melissa shares about these three areas: 1.    The definition of success as a parent (i.e., basing it on something you actually have control over, and hear my response about how holidays are different now for me) 2.    Why messing up is an important part of parenting (hallelujah to that!) 3.    Brain science and parenting (why staying calm may NOT be the best response, and how I somehow knew this and labeled it in my world as “being bigger than Anya’s fear”) Get a glimpse into what an overreactive nervous system looks like and learn about mirror neurons as well. I love her take on describing trauma, having something happen to you that you didn’t have the tools to navigate and felt very alone in. Lastly, what do wine, chocolate and a pillow in your closet have to do with regulating your children’s crazy behavior? Listen on my friend to find out. Here is the link to Melissa’s Laugh More Yell Less Challenge. You can find our friend on her website thecorkboardonline.com, and on Facebook here.  Chat soon, Monica

108: Dave scoops on THE conversation
AL 108 Show Notes 108: Dave scoops on THE conversation Dave joins us today in his introductory episode and answers the question, “Why be compassionate?”, as he did with his life in adopting Anya. He also gives us the low down on THE conversation and his perspective about it all. I was not aware of some of the thoughts he had until now! An interesting point is that Dave was raised with men that served in World War II and really never considered thinking about underlying emotions about things, nor how he dealt with the traumatic fall out after horrific fires, as a firefighter. Listen for his tip to men who have adopted or find themselves dealing with some hard stuff. Here is the link for the 5 Tip I mentioned. You’ll get a free 16-minute-long audio and weekly notifications about upcoming episodes, along with a little more detail into our lives. https://anyalogic.mykajabi.com/pl/182861

107: How I took one step & changed my life's trajectory
AL 107 Show Notes 107: How I took one step and changed my life’s trajectory One step. That’s all it took. I felt disgusting and clogged, sought help to fix that and 16 years later our home is calm and we live in wholeness. I didn’t have the vocabulary or understanding to express what was happening to me, I just felt slower in my thinking and gross in my body. When I sought help, my old wise acupuncturist told me it was good I came to him, because if I hadn’t started on a healing path, I might be dead in 10 years. Any Anya would probably would have been, according to a Russian man who visited the kids in her village several times a year, dead as well. Our adopting Anya forced the whole healing issue and truly changed how we, as a little family now, functioned. Gone were the old ways of parenting and reacting. Not immediately by any stretch of the imagination though. Maybe you are always thinking 4 steps ahead and just sense that danger is lurking, like I did. Well, listen to today's episode and find out if for you, I am that lady with spots on her shoulders. Here is the link I talked about so you can choose ONE area to shift up in your life: Grab your freebie. 5 Tips to Reduce the "Noise" That Causes Overwhelm & Anxiety, and sign up for email notifications of upcoming podcasts here: https://anyalogic.mykajabi.com/pl/182861   And here are two links to check out if you wanted more info to see, maybe specifically the emotional ones, if the oils can help your body out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZLTJ7mjQKk My video with info about oils, 19 minutes long https://doterra.me/dBtXP7NJ If you don't want to listen, just purchase a diffuser, the 6 emotional oils and 6 roller bottles and fractionated coconut oil to make 6 roller bottle for use on skin, here is a shopping cart link with all those items in it. If you already have a doTERRA account, order on that, looking for the emotional line.

106: Growth is possible, even if you feel stuck
As a woman in her late 30’s and early 40’s, my life wasn’t how I thought it would be. Nothing was bad, it just wasn’t how I’d imagined, and that bothered me. A lot. In this episode, I cover where I was at that time in my life, emotionally, physically and spiritually. I can snow see I was obsessively worrying in my head, a doctor told me that I might not live another 10 years and I loved God but I was always going to Him with my worries, not with joy. I think I was really sad, with unexplainable, unmet expectations. Now I am thriving in all areas. Just by taking step after step after step on my healing journey. I offer an audio training with five helpful tools and encourage you to HELP YOUR CELLS CHILL OUT! It is attainable. Grab the guide to begin to have your cells do all the hard work for you. 105: Anya's tips on recognizing overwhelm & what to do
Get some insight into Anya’s world. She discusses calming down when overwhelmed and what her overwhelm looked like before moving to America. We talk about that crazy thought loop we all get stuck on and how there are two simple ways to interrupt that cycle: 1.   Movement 2.   Aroma Often Anya will take off for a quick walk or use some essential oils to get a clear head. Anya explains the overwhelmed way she functioned in the orphanage as being on high alert and in survival mode all the time. This was her childhood. She also talks about how she was viewed, as a person with dwarfism. Then Anya talks about feeling overwhelmed once here, which can still happen some times, and what to look for if you think you might be experiencing overwhelm too. 102: Anya's thoughts on how she felt before adoption and now, a decade later
Anya's story about how she felt before adoption and now, 10 years later. Before adoption she felt now safety, was alert and had no enjoyment in life. She was in a fearful state, without any control Now, her constant fear and terror are gone and she is almost always peaceful. Quite an achievement for a traumatized person. When fear does pop up, Anya shares how she calms down, mostly using movement and aroma. Here some details about her first night in American and how she thought she would be eaten by a "lion" and maybe even a wolf. Lastly Anya gives advice for anyone feeling a current lack of control or some anxiety! 104: The biggest challenge of my life
True story-it’s about that day the worlds’ leading developmental psychologist in working with kids from hard places told me she wouldn’t want to be in my shoes. Uhhhmm...what? Listen as you hear why I can seem so calm amidst angry/crazy behavior and what I learned about it. You too can become a helpful, safe person for others, learning to act verses react. It’s not easy, but is definitely doable and might help if you have a person in your life who sometimes acts a bit out of control or gets triggered by a seemingly non offensive comment or situation. My biggest thought change is that there are many, many walking wounded out there, without their wounds showing on the outside. They want to feel heard and I can stop and listen and prevent myself from getting triggered. I offer my three step plan to help those you love trust you. 1.   Be proactive verses reactive 2.   Assess their needs 3.   Formulate a plan of action I sure hope you find this podcast helpful as you gear up to be dealing with stressed family during the new normal of pandemic holidays. To get yourself ready and calm beforehand, grab your freebie. 5 Tips to Reduce the "Noise" That Causes Overwhelm & Anxiety, here: https://anyalogic.mykajabi.com/pl/182861 This also signs you up for email notifications of upcoming podcasts!

103: Breath Work Basics with Salina
On this episode, Salina Bartunek-Andrews joins us to talk alla bout the mind/bdy connection and shares that she sees it is actually the spirit, wrapped in a body, functioning form a soul and the order in which we should we operate them. As a note, please excuse the glitchy audio, it gets better and then cuts down a bit later again, then comes back. I am looking at getting a new mic and using a newer laptop too. Well, enough of that. We learn that when breathing optimally, by using the only breathing muscle we have properly, we move into the parasympathetic/peaceful state, which is the only state in which your body can heal. If you are frugal, you’ll love that optimal breathing is the cheapest medicine around, because it’s FREE! Next, Salina shares how to recognize signs that maybe you aren’t breathing well and how to practice one method of breathing. You’ll learn how to calm down and come into the present. And more importantly, Not to judge your breathing but to NOTICE. I still struggle with arguing in my head sometimes about “not doing it right or long enough or often enough”. As mentioned, here is the link to Salina’s free PDF Breath Work Basics. And her other pertinent information too: Website Instagram

101: Why would you adopt when you were done raising your four kids?
Welcome to Anyalogic, a podcast offering our take on life after adopting, Anya’s distinct view of life & tools we discovered to use the power of your cells to bring you to safety and a place of peace and calm. This first episode explains how I got to a place to learn all this valuable information and why on earth I chose to adopt and some of the story of adoption. After a decade of having Anya as our daughter, I share what we’ve discovered-tools that moved us from living in fear and chaos to living in peace and calm. My side of the story includes some of what I’ve learned, the fact that we unearthed some awesome tools that use the cells’ power for lasting change and that I started this only wanting emotional stability for Anya, where her past and present lives were congruent, or in harmony. And, hear about my deal making with God. Always a good idea, right?! I should mention I stated that I had come off two years of working as an interior designer at Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills-okay, not STRAIGHT, just at their Design Showcase House for two consecutive years. Don’t want to mislead you with my implied mad skills. Ha ha ha! Enjoy getting to know us and our story and stay tuned for more and more and more… Grab your freebie. 5 Tips to Reduce the "Noise" That Causes Overwhelm & Anxiety, and sign up for email notifications of upcoming podcasts here: https://anyalogic.mykajabi.com/pl/182861
