AL002 Independent God and Mayflowers
AL 002: Independent God & Mayflowers
Premise 1: God does not need any of his creation. He exists in a qualitatively different sense than we do, and created us for his glory.
Independent God
Ps 50:10-13
For every beast of the forest is mine,
the cattle on a thousand hills.
know all the birds of the hills,
and all that moves in the field is mine.
“If I were hungry, I would not tell you,
for the world and its fullness are mine.
Acts 17:24-25
24The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man,25 nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything.
Job 41:11
Who has first given to me, that I should repay him? Whatever is under the whole heaven is mine.
God’s Glory
Ps 145:8-13
8 The Lord is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
9 The Lord is good to all,
and his mercy is over all that he has made.
10 All your works shall give thanks to you, O Lord,
and all your saints shall bless you!
11 They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom
and tell of your power,
12 to make known to the children of man your mighty deeds,
and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.
13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
and your dominion endures throughout all generations.
Romans 9 also teaches us that all things are designed to show the richness of God’s glory… Read the book…
***additional supporting verses: Psalm 86; Is 60:21; Rom 11:36
GOD DOES NOT SHARE HIS GLORY
Is 42:8
I am the Lord; that is my name;
my glory I give to no other,
nor my praise to carved idols.
But if God does not share his glory with anyone, then how is it that Christ said otherwise? How is it that in John 17:5 Christ says these words, “Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory which I had with you before the world was made.”
I ask again this week… Is God schizophrenic? As we discovered on last week’s episode, no. He is by no means schizophrenic or double-minded. Nor does God lie.
This all blends into my last premise for this segment:
Premise 2:
God does not need us for companionship: He has had companionship ALWAYS by his very nature as the triune God. He exists eternally as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. One being. Three persons.
