Legal Concerns for Small Businesses During COVID-19

SHRM’s All Things Work podcast continues to provide coverage of how the world of work is responding to the pandemic. This week, we’re turning our attention to some of the legal challenges that small businesses are now confronting due to COVID-19. In this episode, we’re joined by two guests, Janell Stanton and Amber Clayton. As the Managing Attorney of the employment law group at Wagner, Falconer & Judd, Janell advises small businesses on all facets of HR and employment law. Janell also represents the SHRM LegalNetwork, is a service that provides affordable legal advice to HR professionals. Amber Clayton is the Director of SHRM’s HR Knowledge Center, which is a resource available to SHRM members: Members are able to call in with their thorniest HR-related questions and SHRM’s team of HR experts provide answers, guidance and resources. 

In this episode, Janell and Amber join host Tony Lee to help answer COVID-19-related HR questions including whether employers can require their employees to test for COVID, how to respond to employees who refuse to come to work due to fear of contracting the virus and also clarification on the intersection between different types of sick leave (e.g. FCCRA, FMLA, state).
