What is happening in our churches today when it comes to church music and the relationship churches have with the musical staff. Some churches want the maximum effort at a low, low price. This is not Walmart of music people. Commitment and dedication use to be a high priority at one time. Not no more, I know of plenty musicians who were given the boot as soon as the new pastor came in. The general line, we want to go another direction. What the hell is that. There are musicians who help build church congregations over several years, but yet when they were found dead, where were the churches that were aided in growth by good music, no where to be found! I recently met a classical trained musician who stated he did not want anything to do with playing in the church. After 50 years in I clearly understand why now. If they don't have the budget to compensate you, why even look for someone.Dealing with churches is worst than dealing with people on the street, at least you know what your going to get, in the church its worst. I know of situations where musicians salaries were cut due to the pastor stealing money from the church and was caught and voted out. In the church meeting they said they were going to give the musicians a 5% raise. I can you lie and say its a raise when you cut salaries by 10 %. They still are owed 5%. Just another lie. It's a tough landscape being a musician in church nowadays.

We are honored to have a special guest, accomplished musician, composer, director, and teacher, Professor Wilbur Belton. Hailing from Washington. D.C., Belton has carved out an illustrious musician career that has  been highlighted by work with gospel's finest including Vickie Winans, Marvin Sapp and Richard Smallwood. He received his formal education from Catholic University in Washington D.C. with a  major in Music Education and a minor in Classical piano. Professor Belton is innovative and an exceptionally creative individual. He is the uncle to gospel music sensation Tye Tribbett. His organized mass choirs have opened for legends of gospel such as Shirley Caesar, Richard Smallwood, Rev Timothy Wright and Jeff Majors. We will explore future projects and events on the horizon for our local gospel musical genious Professor Wilbur Belton.
