"When God's Truth is drawing you, then your pain isn’t driving you" This is the pearl of wisdom Holy Spirit whispered to me one day as I was stuck in the swirl of feeling frustrated.  I was so deeply 'in the thick of things' that I felt like I was in a paper bag trying to fight my way out. And, just as His Word always does, this nugget of Truth set me free.    As I was coaching a client this morning, I could tell that they were in that same place. You know, the place where we hear ourselves saying, "but I've tried all I know to do" or "I'm trying to follow God's voice but I just can't..." So as we walked through their circumstances with Holy Spirit, He showed them the Truth, and gently turned their perspective from one of 'stuck' to one of 'identity-affirming possibility'.   As you listen to today's podcast, let God rewrite the narrative that's been playing in your head, and step into who YOU get to be in the plan He has for your life. God knows the future - right? He knows all that will happen from now and throughout eternity. And is plans for humanity are good. Right? His plans for your life are good. His plans for your community, are good. His plans for our planet, are good.  So when He invites us to come to Him and ask Him what those plans are (and that He'll show them to us), it's an invitation we get to say "yes" to. Right? On a zoom call today my coaching client looked at me and said, "I'm really liking and appreciating myself these days" Wow - I must admit that I'm more used to hearing us talk about how we think we've fallen short of what we think God is expecting of us, rather than celebrating who He made us to be (and liking ourselves too).  It put a huge smile on my face to hear my client genuinely enjoying the way God created them to be. You know when you meet someone for the first time and you just 'click'? You cant really explain it but you feel like you've known each other for way longer than you actually have - and it feels so good. I reckon we feel that way because God wants us to connect with that person and our spirit confirms it. It's as if the connection clicks in the natural and in the spirit. Part of the beauty of God's plan for us to be the Body of Christ, is that we connect with each other and do life inter-dependently. We're not supposed to be 'lone ranger's', but rather an interconnected body that supports and helps each other to function in the best way possible. Matthew 6:33 is one of my life-guiding verses. It's truly a map to the treasure God has in store for each one of us daily. In it Jesus reassures and tells us to "seek first the Kingdom of God, and all these things will be added to you" (I encourage you to read the whole chapter to feel the love He poured into this directive). Isn't it amazing that God cares so much about our day to day life that He would give us such a clear pathway into His thoughts about each day? Stress is one of the most common and disruptive things in most of our lives today. It's the cause of illness, relationship break up's and deep dissatisfaction with our everyday life. We are all faced with the all too real circumstances of life, every day. And those circumstances matter. There is a song that we sing in Sunday School and it says, "this little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine..." I love the sentiment and lesson behind this song, and I've always hungered to let our BIG light shine (Mat 5:16). On Saturday night, I realized that my light wasn't shining in a certain area (I was frankly quite scared of doing this thing). Then an opportunity came up to 'face the fear and do it anyway' and I took the leap... In my quiet time this morning I had my favorite worship songs playing, and thoughts about a conversation I had yesterday came to mind. Then I thought about something to add to the grocery list. Then I wondered something about work... You know how it goes - the everyday realities of life are at the forefront of our minds and, if we let them, they can consume our thinking. Have you ever tried to find that elusive favorite pair of socks (you know, the ones that keep your feet warm and cozy) - and they are NOWHERE to be found? You've looked high and low and then, along comes someone else and they 'appear' right where you were looking! It's as if a different and fresh set of eyes can see what you couldn't (even though it was right in front of you).  It's the same with Jesus.  When we seem to have looked and thought and dreamed of all sorts of ways to see something happen, but finally yell out "there's no way" - He shows how HE is the way. Being intentionally aware of the goodness of God is a total game changer.  If we're honest with ourselves we can see that our everyday lives can typically pass us by on 'autopilot', You know what it's like - we find ourselves doing things without much intentionality and thought. A client friend of mine said to me today that seeing God in the 100 everyday normal parts of their life, has been transformational. These moments are equally as special as the 'writing on the wall' moments, if we will take the time to notice them - and appreciate them on purpose. Have you ever tried to plant some summer flowers and they just don’t grow? You buy great seed. You prep the soil. You diligently water everything…yet some of them just don’t ‘take’?   That may be true here on Earth, but the act of sowing seed ALWAYS works in the Spirit. God promises 30, 60 or a hundredfold return on seed we sow. Why does this work? I discovered a hidden treasure today - in the form of little yellow stickies I'd pasted on my wall. They'd been hidden behind a lamp until I uncovered them and discovered their gold. I'd written them when I was first mapping out the 'How to Hear God' course and they reminded me of my history with God. Remember when you were a kid and your Mom or Dad asked you to do something and you ‘chose’ to ignore them? There were lots of times that I did this when it came to the daily chores I didn’t like to do.  It’s called selective listening and we purposely turn it on when we don’t want to internalize what we’re hearing. In 1 Peter 5:8  he tells us that ‘our adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour’. This means that the enemy is actively looking to tell you things that will bring destruction in your life. What a sobering thought. Here’s the Good News. God has given us a heads up that this will happen, and then He gives us the way to turn our ‘selective listening’ on, and tune out the enemy’s voice.
