#35: Almost Famous (Cameron Crowe)
Almost Famous is a 2000 American comedy-drama film written and directed by Cameron Crowe and starring Billy Crudup, Frances McDormand, Kate Hudson, and Patrick Fugit. It tells the story of a teenage journalist writing for Rolling Stone in the early 1970s, his touring with the fictitious rock band Stillwater, and his efforts to get his first cover story published. The film is semi-autobiographical, as Crowe himself was a teenage writer for Rolling Stone. It is based on his experiences touring with rock bands Poco, the Allman Brothers Band, Led Zeppelin, Eagles, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Crowe has discussed how during this period he lost his virginity, fell in love, and met his musical heroes—these events represented in the film as happening to William Miller (Fugit), the boyish main character.

#34: The Final Girls (Todd Strauss-Schulson)
If you love, self-mocking films like Tucker & Dale, then this is something that you will love. It's a love letter to cheesy horror films from the 1980's with an interesting twist. It's harp, wickedly funny, and pays homage to the slasher films. Max Cartwright waits while her actress mother, Amanda, auditions for a film. When she returns, Amanda complains that she'll only be known as scream queen Nancy in the 1986 slasher film Camp Bloodbath, a cult classic. On the way home, the two get into a car accident and Amanda is killed. Three years later, on the anniversary of her mother's death, Max is studying with her friends Gertie and Chris. Gertie's stepbrother Duncan, a horror film fanatic, shows up and persuades Max to attend a special double-feature showing of Camp Bloodbath and its sequel. At the screening, Max is not too thrilled that Chris' possessive ex-girlfriend – and her former best friend – Vicki is there as well. During the film, the theater is accidentally set ablaze. In order to get the group to safety, Max uses a machete to cut a hole in the screen and they all step through. #33: The Shining (Stanley Kubrick)
The Shining is a powerful visual puzzle of unknown forces. "Kubrick is telling a story with ghosts (the two girls, the former caretaker and a bartender), but it isn't a "ghost story", because the ghosts may not be present in any sense at all except as visions experienced by Jack, Wendy, and Danny." We go inside the world of many of the different interruptions of this masterpiece film from the incredible Stanley Kubrick. Join us on our latest adventure with our host and special guest.
