This Kid Saved My Life
In this week's podcast Coach Bu talks to Brandon Helmick, a father who stepped up to the plate at a moment's notice. Brandon speaks about how in the depths of his addiction he found out he was a father and his son was abandoned at the hospital right after birth. He recognized the need to sober up and be a dad for this innocent baby boy.  Brandon wrote,  "This kid saved my life! Here I am 4 years clean from crack and heroin. I was an active user who lived in my car. Got a call one day that a woman gave birth to a son and left him at the hospital and I was the alleged father. She was also an addict so he was born addicted to heroin. I went to see him at the hospital and I just knew he was mine and he was all alone. I got to hold him. While I was holding him the nurse said he was starting to withdraw and it was time for his morphine. That moment changed my life because for once I wasn’t just hurting myself I was hurting an innocent child who depended on me. Long story short I got clean, did what I had to with children's services, and got full custody. Here is us now and I thank God. This kid saved my life.” Thank you for sharing your inspirational story Brandon Helmick.  Please join Addict to Athlete’s Patreon support page and help us turn the mess of addiction into the message of sobriety! https://www.patreon.com/addicttoathlete For more information on Team Addict to Athlete and Addiction Recovery Podcasts please visit our website. https://www.AddictToAthlete.org
