Actor Things 04 – Sacred Listening with Kay Lindahl
What makes a great actor? For some, it’s the ability to convincingly portray other characters. For others, it’s more about a personal honesty. Either way, today’s guest has a lot to say about how the simple (although not easy) act of listening can help improve your acting game tremendously. About Today’s Guest Kay Lindahl is founder of The Listening Center, author of the award winning book, The Sacred Art of Listening, and a Certified Listening Professional. She is a skilled presenter and workshop leader who teaches that listening is a creative force that transforms relationships. She demonstrates listening as a way of being profoundly present with each other and our own inner wisdom. Kay participates in many community projects and is on the Board of Directors for Women of Spirit and Faith. She is an Ambassador for the Parliament of the World’s Religions, a past trustee of the Global Council for the United Religions Initiative, an international movement to create peace among religions and is Past Chair of the North American Interfaith Network. She is a dedicated spokesperson for the interfaith movement, an ordained interfaith minister and an Honorary Canon to the Cathedral Center of St. Paul in the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles. Kay also serves on the Program Group for Ecumenical and Interreligious Life for the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles. She is a member of the Forge Guild for Spiritual Leaders and The International Listening Association. Lindahl has presented her work in diverse settings—local, regional, national and international. Locally she has created programs, board retreats and ongoing series of workshops for congregations as well as in-service training for non-profit organizations and lectures on college campus

Actor Things 03 – The Miracle of Support with Tessa Faye
The business of acting can be a harsh landscape. But today’s guest has found a way to navigate it and she’s made it her life’s goal to help others do that same. About Today’s Guest A graduate of the University of Michigan’s esteemed Musical Theatre program, Tessa Faye is a Cleveland-native who moved to NYC in 2005 to pursue life as an actress. Represented by The Krasny Office, she has been seen in commercials for brands such as Chobani Greek Yogurt and Dillon’s Steak and Seafood Grille, and heard by 8 year olds across the country as the voice of Siara on POKEMON LEARNING LEAGUE. She made her television debut as Harper on PBS’s THE ELECTRIC COMPANY, currently in syndication on HBO Family. Tessa has performed onstage in NYC, in dozens of shows ranging from workshops of little plays with big Broadway dreams, to larger musicals with sold-out runs to appease the masses. She credits a turning point in her career to her portrayal of “Babe” in the updated musical GOOD NEWS at the Goodspeed Opera House. There, she was nominated for her performance as “Outstanding Supporting Actress” in the Connecticut Critics Circle. Her work also earned her a rave in the New York Times (a lifelong dream!), and helped propel her career to star regionally at Arkansas Rep, Arrow Rock Lyceum, Saint Michael’s Playhouse, Gretna Theatre, the Weathervane Theatre; and to originate new roles at her artistic home, the Matthew Corozine Studio. When not performing, Tessa provides Career Consultation to actors looking to pursue their dreams and crack into the next level of professionalism in the New York theatre scene. Actor Things 02 – You Can’t Stop the Hurt with Jeff Burchfield
What is success as an actor? For much of American society, it seems that success in our art is akin to success as a reality television star. Our guest today has faced this terrifying question over and over again on one of the largest stages in the world and come to some fascinating conclusions. About Today’s Guest Jeff Burchfield’s first job after drama school was playing The Mute in THE FANTASTICKS at the Barter Theatre in Virginia, joining Equity for the subsequent LORT tour in 1981. His first plays in New York were Shaw’s GREAT CATHERINE with a Hungarian director and ROMEO AND JULIET for an Italian director. In 2009, he was cast by the iconic French director, Patrice Chereau in FROM THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD at the Metropolitan Opera. That was Jeff’s Met debut: getting butt-fucked in a pink dress. That was also his Staatsoper Berlin debut.  Also at the Met: featured roles in BORIS GODUNOV, FALSTAFF and THE DEATH OF KLINGHOFFER. Jeff’s played HAMLET, although he’d rather act in a Shakespeare play than sit through one,  A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM–six so far. He’s constantly reading new work for playwrighting workshops Village Playwrights, Pulse Ensemble, The Players’ Club, and The Actor’s Studio. His movie roles include: Gela Babluani’s 13 with Mickey Rourke–he got shot in the head; FORECLOSURE he played a blood-drinking ghost, and WINTER OF FROZEN DREAMS. Actor Things 01 – Coming to Acting with Mike DeBlis
What’s it like to be torn between two worlds? Mike DeBlis, a lifelong lover of the law, suddenly finds himself facing this question as he nears hist latest love: acting. On the first episode of Actor Things, we dive into the mind of a young man who’s straddling the line between the right and left brain. About Today’s Guest Michael DeBlis is a trial lawyer who has a passion for the theater. He is known for his knowledge of international tax law, creativity in his practice, his charismatic personality, and his unyielding dedication to his clients. Michael is a former public defender for the Office of the New Jersey Public Defender. As a graduate of the National Criminal Defense College, Michael has trained under some of the best-known criminal defense attorneys in the country. That experience has taught him that justice for a person accused of a crime is only won through a full understanding of the client and the case. To that end, Michael attempts to understand each client’s case as a convincing narrative, not just as a set of innocuous facts and arcane legal rules. Michael is a prolific writer and a passionate blogger. He has written articles that have been featured in leading tax journals such as CCH Journal of Tax Practice and Procedure, Global Tax Weekly, and ABA News Quarterly. He has also been featured on the media affiliates of several major media networks, including NBC, ABC, CBS, Fox, and CNN. Michael is a living example of the tremendous power that comes from combining passion, preparation, persuasion, and positive communication in the courtroom. His courage and relentless work ethic have earned him a reputation as a zealous advocate and one of New Jersey’s rising stars of the legal profession.
