15 The Green Party’s Breakthrough Moment (David Cobb interview)
Ever since Bernie went bust and endorsed Hillary Clinton, Green Party Presidential Candidate has been riding a groundswell fueled by the #Afterbern. Now, let’s be clear: Jill Stein is not going to win the 2016 Presidential election, but you should vote for her anyway. David Cobb, a 2004 Presidential candidate on the Green Party ticket talks with Dennis Trainor, Jr. about the ghost of Ralph's Nader's "success", how the Jill Stein campaign can define victory without winning the White House, the perception of the Green Party as a club for older white hippies, and the need for a vibrant independent party of the left.

(Political) Reform or Revolution? | Acronym podcast #14
Today, I catch up with Keyon Bliss, Communications Coordinator for Move To Amend for an interview. This episode of the podcast is publishing about 24 hours before we learn the results of the final Super Tuesday results in California and begin the next chapter in the #FeeltheBern story. Whether that story amounts to, or will lead to a revolution (political or otherwise) is still an open question. Among the more though provoking articles published in the avalanche of thought pieces surfing the wave of Peak Bern is Todd Chretien’s piece at Socialist Worker that begins by imaging a January 2017 where Bernie Sanders has defied the odds and become President of the United States and does a great job is unpacking questions surrounding the possibilities, obstacles and pitfalls of trying to build a revolution from within the Democratic party. Chretian gives credit to Sanders for highlighting the evils of money in politics, writing – "Sanders rightly points to the corrupting influence of campaign cash. But keep in mind that the Old Jim Crow and the Vietnam War predated the Supreme Court's Citizens United decision. The capitalist class has other means to assert its domination over the state machine besides campaign contributions. Getting "money out of politics," when discussing the American state, is a bit like saying we should get "money out of economy." The problem of state power and economic monopoly cannot be reduced to tweaking electoral regulations. Something more potent is required." That something more potent is what the organization Move To Amend is working towards. Formed in the fall of 2009 – in anticipation of the Citizens United v. FEC Supreme Court decision that would be handed down in January of 2010 – Move to Amend is a coalition of organizations and individuals that – according to its mission statement individuals committed to social and economic justice, ending corporate rule, and building a vibrant democracy that is genuinely accountable to the people, not corporate interests. Specifically, Move To Amend is calling for an Amendment to the Constitution to unequivocally state that inalienable rights belong to human beings only, and that money is not a form of protected free speech under the First Amendment and can be regulated in political campaigns. Mindful that – as Todd Chretian so eloquently put it in the

13 #BernieorBust Throws Down Gauntlet, Declaring, "Trump is No Worse Than Clinton"
#BernieorBust spokespeople YahNé Ndgo and Greg Haddock lay out the rationale for their commitment to the growing #BernieorBust campaign. A pledge to write in Bernie Sanders or vote for the Green Party candidate at BernierorBust.org has garnered nearly 100,000 signatures to date and lays out the primary election season strategy: A write-in strategy is an innovative idea to help a candidate secure a party’s nomination. We are convinced that if this strategy is not employed, there is very little possibility Senator Sanders will secure the nomination. In today’s podcast, we will discuss how the #BernieorBust campaign will shift tactics after Bernie Sanders endorses Hillary Clinton and attempts to circle the wagons by bringing his voters under one big happy Democratic tent. About the guests | YahNé Ndgo is an activist, a singer, and a writer with a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Writing and Literature from Bennington College. She is the founder and Chief Visionary Officer of Deep Blu Womyn Company, which connects individuals, organizations and businesses to artists who provide creative support and who produce transformative projects. 10 Hillary Clinton to Bernie Sanders: Shut the F*ck Up and Get In Lin
Hillary Clinton scoffed at the idea that she should to adopt some of Bernie Sanders’ positions in order to win over his supporters. During an MSNBC town hall last night, Clinton reminded us that she millions more voters behind her than does Sanders. “I have a bigger lead in pledged delegates than Senator [Barack] Obama, when I ran against him in 2008, ever had over me. I am winning,” Clinton told Rachel Maddow in response to a question about winning over those who #FeelTheBern. “And I’m winning because of what I stand for and what I’ve done and what my ideas are.” Translation: Dear Bernie – the party is over. Time to shut up and get in line.

09 Jill Stein Interview: Can A Sanders/Stein Ticket Win A 3-Way Race?
Kshama Sawant, the leader of Socialist Alternative, has launched the #Movement4Bernie. In doing so Sawant wrote that she is “urging Bernie - if he is blocked in the rigged primary process - to run as an independent, or as a Green on the ticket with Jill Stein.” With the likelihood of Bernie Sanders loosing to Hillary Clinton increasing, the idea that Bernie would endorse Hillary has to be a painful one for many Bernie supporters. Bernie has accused the Clinton campaign of finance law violations, suggested that she is not qualified to be President because of her judgment to align with Super-PAC’s. Additionally, it is clear that DNC and the MSM have been openly biased in favor of Hillary. For Bernie to endorse Endorsing Hillary now would seem absurd. And in that absurdity – let’s call it the #AfterBern- an opportunity presents itself for the Jill Stein campaign. In this interview I ask Dr. Stein if she would accept a VP slot if Bernie were to seek the Presidential nomination of the Green Party. We also touch on a wide range of issues including: how to attract more millennial to the Green Party, whether or not we should be working to end capitalism, how the Jill Stein campaign has prepared for the moment Bernie would be forced out of the race and whether or no it was a mistake to launch her 2016 campaign so early.

From the Ashes of Capitalism, The ‘Next System’ Seeks To Rise | the acronym podcast 08 Today on the Acronym podcast- There is a growing consensus that the crisis facing us across multiple fronts: environmental justice, racial justice, wealth inequality and more are both interconnected and systemic, meaning that Capitalism not only has no answers for these crisis, but these myriad crisis themselves are built into the system. Dana Brown, the National Teach-Ins Coordinator for the Next System project, joins Dennis for an interview about the end of capitalism and navigates the “reform or revolution” framework during the height of primary season. The Next System was co-founded by Gar Alperovitz and Gus Speth and is “an ambitious multi-year initiative aimed at thinking boldly about what is required to deal with the systemic challenges the United States faces now and in coming decades. Responding to real hunger for a new way forward, and building on innovative thinking and practical experience with new economic institutions and approaches being developed in communities across the country and around the world, the goal is to put the central idea of system change, and that there can be a “next system,” on the map.” Also on the show today, Steve Horn of DeSmog Blog on details related to the findings that: “Jackson Dunn, a lobbyist employed by FTI Consulting subsidiary FTI Government Affairs and a top-level campaign finance bundler for Hillary Clinton's presidential run, lobbied throughout 2014 and 2015 for offshore drilling off the coast of Israel on behalf of Noble Energy. “ about the guests: Dana Brown joined the Democracy Collaborative in September 2015 for the launch of the Next System Teach-Ins program. As Jason reported in a recent article for Vice News, It Took a FOIA Lawsuit to Uncover How the Obama Administration Killed FOIA Reform: “The Obama administration has long called itself the most transparent administration in history. But newly released Department of Justice (DOJ) documents show that the White House has actually worked aggressively behind the scenes to scuttle congressional reforms designed to give the public better access to information possessed by the federal government.” We discuss Obama’s transparency legacy, the Clinton emails and the CIA's Office of Public Affairs (OPA) created to help “producers, screenwriters, directors, and authors "gain a better understanding of [CIA's] intelligence mission." 05 Susan Sarandon on Trump Bringing The Revolution and Flipping The ‘Lesser-of-Two-Evils’ Script on MSNBC
Susan Sarandon did a beautiful thing in an interview with Chris Hayes last night. Not only did she refuse to play along with a dominant mainstream media narrative, she artfully deconstructed a blind spot of privilege from which the ‘lesser of two evils’ argument claims power. Here is how it went down: As Sarandon was defending her support of Bernie Sanders, Hayes shifted the conversation down the well-worn path of “well now, won’t you support Hillary if she wins the Democratic nomination?” Summarizing the growing concern from within the establishment Hayes said: “In certain quarters there is growing concern that the folks that are into Bernie Sanders have come to despise Hillary Clinton- or reject Hillary Clinton and should she be the nominee, they will walk away.” Sarandon acknowledged the truth that, despite flirting with “demands” Sanders would “probably” urge his supporters to support Hillary where she to secure the nomination. Sarandon was not making any promises. “I think Bernie would probably encourage people, because he doesn’t have any ego in this thing,” Sarandon told Hayes. “But I think a lot of people are, ‘Sorry, I just can’t bring myself to [vote for Hillary].” “How about you personally?” Hayes asked. “I don’t know. I’m going to see what happens,” Sarandon said. Chris Hayes nearly choked on his tongue, acting like a Broadway actor whose scene partner just started speaking lines from a different play. “Really?” he asked. “Really,” Sarandon said, explaining further “some people feel that Donald Trump will bring the revolution immediately if he gets in, things will really explode.” Hayes pushed back: “Isn’t that dangerous?” And here is where Sarandon exposed a blind spot of privilege in the “lesser of two evils” argument: “It’s dangerous to think that we can continue the way we are,” explained Sarandon, flipping the script. “With the militarized police force, with privatized prisons, with the death penalty, with the low minimum wage, threats to women’s rights and think you can’t do something huge to turn that around.”

03 Bernie’s Demands of Hillary | Acronym podcast #03
Up until now, when asked if he would support Hillary Clinton were she to win the Democratic Party nomination, Bernie has always said yes. Without qualification. Full stop. Until now. On Wednesday, in an interview with Cenk Uygur on The Young Turks, Sanders listed policy demands he would make of Clinton, hinting that he would make these demands before endorsing her. Bernie’s demands of Clinton would include becoming a champion of a single-payer health care system, tuition free public colleges and universities, a $15 an hour minimum wage, and waging “a vigorous effort to address climate change.” Sanders also made clear that beyond promises, “What we need is to create a movement which holds elected officials accountable and not let them flip (on issues).” The new Bernie Sanders Strategy. Will he withhold an Endorsement to Hillary Clinton if Clinton does not meet his demands? We explore that issue and more on today’s Acronym podcast.
