62 - The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger
A theatrical adaptation of the novel was presented at Seattle's Book-It Repertory Theatre in 2007.[13][14] The novel has also been adapted for the theater in a version written by Caridad Svich, which was commissioned by Repertorio Espanol in New York City. That adaptation premiered in 2009 and received the HOLA Award for Outstanding Achievement in Playwriting from the Hispanic Organization of Latin Actors. Unlike the film and the previous adaptation, this version was written and performed in Spanish and has been staged in Latin American countries such as Chile and Costa Rica.[15] Svich also wrote an English language version of the play which won the 2011 American Theatre Critics Association Primus Prize for its production at Denver Center Theatre Company in 2010.[16] On May 23, 2018, it was announced that Hulu was developing a television series adaptation of the novel with production company FilmNation Entertainment. Allende is expected to serve as an executive producer on the project.[17] On October 19, 2021, it was announced that Eva Longoria would star in the project.[18]

59 - The Danish Girl by David Ebershoff
We have some spicy takes on this adaptation. We love the topic, we’re not sure about the book and we don’t even have enough words to describe this movie. Get into it with us as Jordan shares some deeply held theater loves, Emily goes on a rant about how there doesn’t always need to be a defining reason for things, and we recognize our own failings halfway through. Episode Drink: The Fair Lady 1 oz sage-infused doblin blanc vermouth ¾ oz krogstad aquavit ¾ oz grapefruit juice 1 tsp cane sugar syrup Dry champagne Instructions: Shake all the ingredients (except the champagne) with ice, then strain into a flute. Top with champagne. When you start to realize that the movie is on the cusp of not aging well. Take two drinks whenever you feel like you’re supposed to cry… but you just can’t muster it. Raise a glass to spotting Emerald Fennell in this movie and you squeal because in the past couple of years, you’ve jumped on the Emerald Fennell train and want to be her friend? No? Just Jordan? 58 - Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
Good heavens! We have so much to say about this classic piece of literature. We mostly talk about our favorite parts and forget to dissect the adaptation but, Mr. Bennet, please we can’t help ourselves. Em is flabbergasted that Jordan hasn’t seen the BBC version and Jordan admits why she has a hard time with this version of Mr. Darcy.    Episode Drink: Rye and Prejudice 3 oz grapefruit juice 1 ½ oz rye whiskey   Pour the ingredients over ice in a rocks glass, stirring like a complicated heart. We hold no prejudice against marrying up ladies, but you don’t need a castle (or a king) to be a queen.    Recipe From: Tequila Mockingbird by Tim Federle   YouTube Mentions: Lizzie and Darcy Fight Scene Breakdown by Jill Barup The Lizzie Bennet Diaries   Our Drinking Game for this Story  Take a drink: Every time Mr. Darcy is a dick Every time Mr. Wickham tells a lie Every time Mr. Collins is a dick Every time Lydia makes you roll your eyes Every time Mrs Bennet wheedles Mr Bennet to do something to help the girls marry rich Take 2 drinks: Whenever a marriage proposal occurs   Indie Bookstore Recommendations: Em: Quest Bookshop - Seattle, WA Jordan : Boulder Bookstore - Boulder, CO   A Novel Adaptation was created by Emily Eppley and Jordan Redwine. 55 - I'm Thinking of Ending Things by Iain Reid
We need a drinking game for this episode of the podcast and not just the story! Count how many times we say pedantic, pretentious, and circle-jerk. (Hint: it’s a bunch) We love the cast of this movie and have strong opinions about the execution. One of us just breaks and can’t even bring her feelings to words. We’re sorry in advance.   Episode Drink: The Schrodinger’s Cat Recipe   Ingredients For the honey syrup 1/2 cup Clover honey 1/4 cup boiling water   For the cocktail: 3 slices peach Ice 3/4 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice 1 dash Angostura bitters 1/2 ounce honey syrup 1/2 ounce mezcal 1/2 ounce Lillet blanc 1 1/2 ounces bourbon Garnish: peach slice Instructions 1. To make the honey syrup, stir hot water into honey until dissolved. Let cool. (Excess syrup can be stored, covered, in the refrigerator for several weeks.) 2. Muddle peach slices in a cocktail shaker. Fill cocktail shaker with ice. Add Angostura, honey syrup, lemon, mezcal, Lillet, and bourbon. Shake vigorously. 3. Double-strain in to a cocktail glass. Garnish with peach slice.   Recipe From: SeriousEats.com   Our Drinking Game for this Story:  Take a drink every time you see an outfit change. Take a drink when the age changes. Take a drink whenever you begin to feel uneasy. Take a drink any time Jake says something pretentious.  Take shot when you notice the actor change? Because why the fuck not, there are no rules to this story ande to this game. When the young woman and Jake are in the car going to get ice cream, take some shrooms because that is the only way you’re going to enjoy the ending...maybe even make sense of it.    Indie Bookstore Recommendations: Jordan: John K. 54 - A Walk To Remember by Nicholas Sparks
Young people falling in love, but make it tragic. There are definitely some differences from book to movie on this one … but that’s not necessarily what we grip about in this episode. We discuss tropes, how to properly get every single early 2000’s alt-rock song in a soundtrack, and why this gives young folk bad expectations about love. Also, we found out what it takes to be a Certified Dumpster Fire!   Episode Drink: Iced Tea and if you’re from the south, specifically Sweet Tea   Our Drinking Game for this Story  Take a drink every time: You see a late 90s/early 2000s movie trope (weird scene cuts, pan to people sitting around, clothing styles, high school kids doing things that high school kids didn’t really do …) Every time Mandy Moore sings Every time Jamie mentions having faith Every time Landon’s toxic masculinity is showing … which is like almost every scene, sorry Take swift swig back when you cringe   Indie Bookstore Recommendations The Last Bookstore - Los Angeles, CA L.E.M.S. - Seattle, WA   A Novel Adaptation was created by Emily Eppley and Jordan Redwine. 52 - A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett
Come be a princess with us! Yes, you! All little girls are princesses (age is irrelevant here). We profess our love of magical realism and commend this movie for its beautiful visual storytelling. We also find a few holes in the movie plot that make it tough to fully believe this story - even though we totally believe in the magic. Come relive Jordan’s childhood with us!   Episode Drink: A Mango Lassi   Ingredients 1 cup chopped very ripe mango (see how to peel and chop mango), frozen chopped mango, or a cup of canned mango pulp 1 cup plain yogurt 1/2 cup milk 4 teaspoons honey or sugar, more or less to taste A dash of ground cardamom (optional) Ice (optional)   Instructions Put mango, yogurt, milk, sugar and cardamom into a blender and blend for 2 minutes. 51 - The Queen's Gambit by Walter Tevis
Come for the chess, stay for the styles. We talk about the flawless grace that is Anya Taylor-Joy and marvel at how we were obsessed with a story about chess. Chess. It was unexpected, to say the least. We also pick apart the Drama that is Beth’s life, ogle her gorgeous dresses, speculate if there is going to be a next season, and commend author Walter Tevis for having the common sense that many authors seem to lack with their leading ladies. But, did we mention Beth’s clothes?   Episode Drink: The Gibson   2 ½ oz. London dry gin ½ oz. dry vermouth 1 cocktail onion   Instructions Pack a mixing glass with ice. Add gin and vermouth. Stir for until it is very cold. Strain into a cocktail glass in which a cocktail onion awaits. Our Drinking Game for this Story  Take a drink: Everytime Beth takes a drink Everytime a chess opening is referenced, a la Bishop’s Opening, Petrov’s Defense, Two Knights Defense, etc. Whenever you see an outfit that Beth is wearing that you dig Everytime a man is a sexist dick to Beth Take 2 drinks when Beth loses a game.
