Dancer & teacher Jonathan Burke shares his story of growing up around dance, to taking lessons, to making it his life’s work particularly the world of Afro-Cuban folklore and popular dances. After getting his growing up and getting his start in Boston, he moved to Washington D.C. where he performed, taught workshops, trained, and created choreography for the respected DC Casineros. Now, in Atlanta he continues to carve his own path as a dancer, instructor, and practice of Regla de Ocha or more popularly known as Santeria. We talk in-depth about his journey from Boston to Atlanta from culture to dance, the art of leading and following in dance, and the struggles of performing music that originated in a sacred space.
