What Kind Of Moments Do You Specialize In? If you own a business, social enterprise, or a creative practice of some type, you specialize in moments. If you're a therapist, a yoga instructor, a chef, a parent, or an ER doctor, you specialize in moments. And depending upon how you got about doing your thing, you either provide "meh" moments, "cool!" moments, "WOW!" moments or "MY LIFE WILL NEVER BE THE SAME" moments. The ER doc that not only saves your life but is a comforting hand throughout. Moments. The fully present parents that refuse to rush through life. Moments. The chef that sits down with his or her guests, to share a story and a drink. Moments. So I'll ask you again, what kind of moment's do you specialize? Put another way, what kind of moments do your customers, kids, patients, and/or audience most crave? Most need? Most long for? What rises above customer service to deliver an experience they will never forget? Everyone is in the moments business, whether they realize it or not. Passion, Purpose, & Meaning Having core passions that define and guide your life is key. But that is vastly different than being a passionate person. The common assumption is that passion always burns hot. Right? It’s about charisma and getting fired up! But passion is about something much deeper. It acts as the foot soldier for purpose and meaning. Let's explore that a little. Purpose and meaning are not things you can seek out and possess. Spend some time with that concept. Purpose and meaning are the organic byproduct of a life that is in alignment with your core passions. And those passions will change and evolve, as will your sense of purpose and meaning. Sounds complicated but it's actually rather simple. As you get better at paying attention, as you get better a getting curious, you’ll bring more of the things that feed you into your life. And in doing that, you'll bring more passion, purpose, and meaning into your daily experience. But I can simplify it even further! You have needs. Are you meeting those needs? (3) Things You Can Learn From Rock Star Creatives The one thing that all highly creative entrepreneurs, artists, professionals have in common is this: steadfast resolve. That's the hallmark quality they all share. No matter what happened, these creative legends persevered. J.K. Rowling. Massimo Bottura. Steve Jobs. Many others. But to what end? There is much more to steadfast resolve than meets the eye. Lesson #1: Your talent may not be there yet! There is a vast difference between talent and marketable talent. Moving from one to the other takes time and hard work. It does not happen overnight. Lesson #2: You may have more experimenting to do. Even if your talent is soaring, that doesn't mean you've found your niche. Producing signature, reputation-enhancing work, requires playing the long game. Lesson #3: You may need to learn more about how to properly market yourself. Turning yourself into a brand, especially in a way that you're comfortable with, can be an awkward process. Lot's of trial and error. And even when you're rocking all three of those areas, guess what? It's on to the next round of discoveries. The next round of growth. Risk will be involved.
