I recently asked a group of entrepreneurs what they wanted to hear on my podcast and one of the most common answers was how complicated it all can be.  I heard things like, there's too many programs to learn, I don't have the skills to keep up with it all, or there is so much, that I don't even know where to start. I hear you! I get confused myself some days.  What all this boils down to is Complication, which leads to confusion and overwhelm, procrastination, spreading yourself and your efforts too thin, and doing things because some so-called experts say so. These are the steps I discuss in today's episode to uncomplicate your marketing: Analyze what has worked in the past. Find where your business comes from and do more of that.  Stop listening to all the so-called experts. No one knows your business like you do. Stop letting all the voices in. Divest your portfolio. Focus on one main tactic to drive traffic and complement it with others.  Shift your priorities. Schedule time blocks. Make lists daily/weekly. Work in phases and set goals. Get help. Ep. # 15 - Scaling Your Small Business Marketing From Start-Up to Enterprise

Some will go as far as to say that you should put 20% of your revenue back into your marketing but others will swear by 5%. Either way, you do need to spend money to make money. I personally will recommend you spend between 8-12% One thing I have learned first and second hand, when it comes to marketing, pay for quality. Talk to other companies for recommendations and read reviews. Here are the business sizes, budgets, and degree of marketing I discuss in this podcast: Solopreneur: just the owner (under and just over 6 figures) Estimated Marketing  Spend - $0 - $2000 DIY marketing Social media Networking Direct mail (a postcard mailing) Blogging or Podcasting Small digital marketing campaign (Boost posts, buying AdWords) Personal Coaching services (If over 6 figures) Hire a freelancer or solo-professional to assist Micro Entreprises: 1 to 9 employees. ($200,000 - $800,000) Estimated Marketing  Spend - $2000 - $5000 Combination of DIY marketing and hiring help Hire a coach Hire a freelancer or solo-professional to help with: Paid digital marketing Social media SEO Networking Paid directories Direct mail Blogging or Podcasting Small enterprises: 10 to 49 employees. ($800,000 - $5,000,000) Estimated Marketing  Spend - $6000 - $50,000 Hire an agency Hire marketing staff (1-3) Combination of the both Take advantage of various marketing platforms Deciding a direction for your outreach (inbound or outbound) Will you put more into your marketing or a sales team? There is no one silver bullet but I am confident that if you employ these 15 tactics, you will have a better shot of thriving into 2021 than your competition.Here are the 15 tactics or tips I discuss in this episode to help your business stand out against your competitors: Define your USP (Unique Selling Point or Proposition) Make your customers feel safe Be sure your branding is on-point and consistent Go above and beyond in your service (your customer experience) Offer value using inbound marketing tactics (teach them something!)  Leave something memorable behind (a thank you card or treat) Show up on social media Personalize your marketing and do something different (analyze your market, what are your competitors not doing?) Extend your service offering to offer convenience  Follow-up (ask how their service, also send service reminders) Ask for testimonials/reviews/referrals Check-in on regular clients. Personally call them and ask if they enjoy your service and how you can do better Offer regular clients bonuses or rewards for being a client, not new clients! Start a referral program Say Thank you. You can learn more about branding in the first part of this series, Ep # 11 - Your Brand and Others Perception of It.A Brand Standards Guide is a compilation of visual and written rules or standards that represent your brand.  These standards should be made into a company manual that cannot be manipulated but they should be accessible to the entire team. Make one person responsible for them, most likely your head of marketing or creative director. On the podcast today, I talk all about Branding and how it affects people’s perception of your company. Your brand is the face of your company. It dictates the public's perception of it. A brand can be applied to a business or a person. Wikipedia defines a brand as a name, term, design, symbol, or any other feature that identifies one seller's good or service as distinct from those of other sellers. What makes a great brand great? Consistency Inspires Trust and Loyal (brand loyalty) It inspires confidence in its customers It aligns with a company’s and its client's values The value it offers It’s uniqueness How memorable it is How it is talked about Level of social responsibility Its cool factor There are many practices for brand building. Depending on your industry, business type, and clientele the process and time you will invest in your brand will be different.  A great place to start when branding or rebranding your company is to look to your buyer persona. A buyer persona is a semi-fictional detailed description of your ideal customer, also known as your buyer avatar. You can learn more about buyer personas in my last podcast. One strategy that is used by many professionals is Brand Archetypes. Brand archetypes are used by the companies looking to define their customer audiences. Read more about this and the twelve brand archetypes at https://brandsbyovo.com/expertise/brand-archetypes/ As a small business owner, you should take your brand seriously if you want others to take your company seriously. Start with the basics: A great name  An insightful tagline  A recognizable logo or symbol  A Design direction that evokes emotion (typography, colors, imagery) And your brand voice. Ep # 10: Crafting Your Buyer Persona
Hello Hello Hello!  Welcome to the 10th episode of A Big Digital Hug. A Marketing Podcast for the modern entrepreneur who wants to take their business to that next level, for years, not just months to come. On the podcast today, I talk all about defining your buyer persona and how to use this information once you have it. A buyer persona is a semi-fictional detailed description of your ideal customer, also known as your buyer avatar. It is created based on your past buyer or client data, market research, and intuition. Data that you would take in account would be customer demographics, behavior patterns, motivations, and goals. The majority of this can be found in your Google Analytics but you will also understand your client from interacting with them on a regular basis.The benefits of defining your buyer persona would include: Understanding your customers needs better It helps you craft your product or service offering or extend your offering To understand their pain points and what makes them happy To understand their hobbies or pastimes, where they spend their time It helps you create content to better target your ideal customer How to define your persona: Indicate in some way if they are female or male Name that persona Around your man or woman, write the following. Fill them in as you go or after. Age Wealth or income or typical spend Profession or retired Kids (how many & ages/adult) Hobbies Interests Pain points Any additional behavioral traits or buying patterns that are of importance.  How to use this defined persona: Look at your company’s brand and offering from the customer’s perspective In your defined advertising reach.  When you’re crafting your content. It’s always a good practice to consider your buyer persona in every business decision you make. Get to know them really well and be sure your team does as well.  Your buyer persona may change over time. Ep # 7: Prioritize a Goal with a 6-Week Independent Challenge

Determine any resources you need to assign sections to.  Identify and set rewards for milestones Develop a support system. Tell co-workers, family, or friends about your challenge and ask for support. Execute.  Once you complete the 6 weeks. Reflect.  Keep moving forward. This is for anyone who is either considering using email marketing as part of their overall strategy or is currently using email marketing. Unless you are an absolute expert in this area, you will take something away from this. The great news is, I am an expert in this area. I have been doing email marketing for about 15 years now and have seen many mistakes, changes, and successes with it. Strap in and let's get to it!Today I go through a list of 15 email marketing musts. These are: Make a plan. Decide what and when. Choose an ESP (Email Service Provider). I use ActiveCampaign Set up the infrastructure to build a list. Collect emails Drive traffic to your forms and give them a reason to sign-up Get permission with a confirmation email Send a welcome email sequence  Send valuable content! Keep it classy and consistent!  Engage. Ask them what they want from your emails.  Always give them a way out.  Don’t over send. Keep it clean! Use a filtering automation. Automate as much as possible without seeming impersonal Technical aspects. Ask your ESP representative about these Test and assess. If your audience gravitates more to a type of content, do more of that. The most important factors here are 1) getting started and 2) treat your email list like your clients.
