I published a new book!! (How To Get It For FREE)
It's been a while since I've published a new podcast or YouTube video. I've been busy growing Self Publishing School. At Self Publishing School, we've been changing lives through books, and I have an announcement that's really exciting. I just published a brand new book, and I'm going to tell you how to get it for free.  I've been blown away by the comments and responses to these videos and podcasts. I’d just like to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to all of the people who have reached out.  My new book is the second edition of my top selling book of all time. It’s called Published.: The Proven Path From Blank Page To 10,000 Copies Sold. The first edition of this book has been sold and downloaded hundreds of thousands of times since its release in 2016. Self Publishing School has helped about 6000 people write and publish a book since our inception in 2015. A lot of our content and curriculum has gotten better, but the first edition of Published stayed the same.  I decided to write an all-new version as the second edition. The goal is to drop the mic on the topic and create the only book you will ever need if you're interested in writing a quality book that sells copies. You can get a free physical copy at PublishedBook.com/Free or an audio copy at PublishedBook.com/Audible.   Show Highlights:  [05:03] The book goes through all of the essentials to write and publish a book. It also includes exclusive content on how to launch your book and what to do after your launch. [06:09] I also have an entire chapter on how to use a book to grow your business. You can learn all about my launch including behind the scenes at the Self Publishing School Podcast. [07:09] If you grabbed a copy let me know in the comments below. 3 Principles for "Expectations Management" and Expectations Setting
In this episode I discuss why managing expectations is important and how to properly set expectations in every area of your business and life.   I believe that almost all problems in business come down to one of three things: Mismet Expectations Unmet Expectations No Expectations at all!   Expectation Setting is at the beginning of the relationship and Expectation Management is ongoing.   I learned a lot about this process during my time at Student Painters through plenty of expectation setting conversations.   Always prioritize clear and upfront conversations. Have it sooner rather than later! Then people will always know here they stand and expectations can be set and in a lot of cases reset.   Check out my video on how to have difficult conversations: https://youtu.be/2pRTG6UzKjI   WHEN IN DOUBT, OVER-COMMUNICATE!   Two of my favorite phrases when it come so this are: “Just to clarify” or “to be clear”   Then recap that difficult conversation with a written recap. Having it in writing is an absolute must.   SUBSCRIBE to my YouTube channel here: http://bit.ly/chandlerYT   Check out what we're doing at Self Publishing School here: http://self-publishingschool.com   Learn about booking me to speak here: https://youtu.be/K12hkOXaM3k

The 7 Keys to Company Alignment - How to Get Everyone on Your Team Aligned and Clear on What They Need To Be Doing
Today’s episode is all about getting people rowing in the same direction.   As your company grows and scales, you can find that it’s hard to get everyone rowing in the same direction.   There’s always those people that tend to throw things off because they, literally, aren’t on board! (spoiler alert: this is your fault)   In this episode, I cover the 7 keys to company and team alignment. I cover everything from Org Charts to KPIs to Future Vision!   Use these keys to get everyone on the same page and I promise you you’ll get there faster.   I’d love to hear from you! Which one of these 7 are your biggest takeaways or which one of these 7 do you need to work on most?    Here’s a video I did about establishing strong KPIs https://youtu.be/YqQccpYOl2A   And here’s a video I did about how to have great meetings: https://youtu.be/exsUMs5s3Nw   SUBSCRIBE to my YouTube channel here: http://bit.ly/chandlerYT   Check out what we're doing at Self Publishing School here: http://self-publishingschool.com   Learn about booking me to speak here: https://youtu.be/K12hkOXaM3k

Float Tank and Cryotherapy - What it is and Why You Should Do It
Let’s chat about CryoTherapy AND Float Tanks. What the heck are they? I’m a big fan of self improvement. I do so many things to try to be better. The two most unconventional things I do are: 1. Float Tank (sensory deprivation tank) 2. CryoTherapy I get asked about this ALL the time so in this episode I’m going to walk through 1.What are CryoTherapy and Float Tanks? 2. What are the benefits? 3. Why you should try them? Interestingly enough these two things are very opposite of each other but there are so many benefits. Float Therapy: When it comes to Float Therapy there is a time commitment of 60-90 minutes. This is where I go when I have lots of decisions to make and I need time to just sit and think. I do this because it’s just good old fashioned silence that allows me to process things! The biggest benefit of Float Therapy? Yep, you guessed it, mental health! CryoTherapy: As we said this is the opposite of Float Therapy but it is equally as beneficial. At its core you’re revitalizing your body by bringing it to super cold temps. The most surprising benefit is that you can actually burn up to 300 calories per session! But more importantly cryotherapy has helped me so much with my back! We cover a few more benefits of Cryotherapy but needless to say I strongly believe that you should try it! My encouragement to you is to try one of these things this week! Often they are in the same building or very close in proximity to each other. Let me know if you’ve ever tried this before and what was your take away! If you haven’t tried it are you open to it? 2 Things That Matter When Hiring Employees at a Fast Growth Startup (and The Fastest Way to Get Promoted)
When you’re at a fast growth company change is the only constant. And there are two things you must look for when hiring! Here they are. Plain and Simple. You must develop: The ability to lead people. Do you positively influence and make the people around you better? Developing and Improving Systems.   There’s even a bonus one in this episode but you have to listen to it to find out what it is.   Bonus Tip: This all starts with leading yourself well!   Leadership is needed but if you don’t have systems in place then it’s just not as effective.   Sometimes it can be hard to find people with both skill sets. If you find people with those skill sets, develop them, train them, promote them. Morning Affirmations: How to Create Them, The Content, How Often to Listen To Them
Let’s talk about how to create Morning Affirmations that actually work. I’m a big fan of morning routines. As a matter of fact, I made a video about it. You can find that here: https://youtu.be/yIxb3CfltTk The specific part of that video that people ask about ALL the time is: Affirmations. So...here’s how to create morning affirmations (and how I do this personally). In this episode we discuss: What are Morning Affirmations Why Morning Affirmations work Why You Should Record and Listen Examples of My Affirmations Bottom Line: Thoughts are things and Affirmations help make sure that your thoughts are all lined up. It’s amazing what the spoken word can do! Speaking of, I have a video about the language you use. This might be helpful: https://youtu.be/DzZLqg3RV5Q Today’s ProTip: Get someone else to record your affirmations then listen to them! I did that with my brother Seth and it has been a game changer! Imagine doing this everyday for 365 days. Do you think some things will be different for you next year? So I encourage you, take some time RIGHT NOW and write down some affirmations… Seriously, go NOW and make it happen. This will literally change your life. Then once you’ve done it come back and let me know in the comments below. What To Do When Someone Drops Out Of The Interview Process/Hiring Process
Ugh! It happened. You’re weeks into the hiring process and you have your top candidates all lined up...now you just have to choose. No problem! But then one of your top candidates drops out. It’s inevitable. For any big position I’ve ever hired for I usually have at least one person drop out. Let’s talk about the best way to handle that and see if we can’t get them to jump back in. (and maybe even hire them!)  (Side Note: I have a video on how to sell during the hiring process. Check that video out even though it may be too late in the process but it may help you proactively prevent this from happening upstream. You can watch that here: https://youtu.be/YcnfZe-5m1g) You just got that dreaded call or email and they are dropping out. Here’s what I want you to consider: is this person in your top tier or your upper half of people you’re considering? If not, then no problem, let them move on! If they ARE in your top tier then in this episode we discuss the 4 steps to take to get them back in the process and make them a viable option. From getting on the phone with them to exactly what to say to get them to recommit to the puppy dog close, we cover it all. The key is to let them know that you aren’t here to sell them on the position. You just want to have a conversation. I have had these important conversations with top prospects and it was totally clear that it wasn’t a good fit and why they made the decision. Ultimately, we just want to get them to commit to the next step? Then we can go from there! What were your takeaways from today’s episode? How I Do My End of Year Reflection and Goal Setting
It’s that time of year (EOY Reflection and Goal Setting!!)   ...and this year I want you to promise me that you’ll actually do this. Hiring 201
In this episode I talk about advanced recruiting, interviewing and hiring techniques! This is a little longer but I guarantee that if you stick around to the end you’ll be happy! Let’s go! First let's talk about Advanced Recruiting. We take recruiting very seriously at Self Publishing School. My goal is to have at least 100 applicants per job posting and I use a bounty. (anywhere from $1000 - $5000 to help me find this person) Then I make sure to get that bounty in front of everyone. I also focus on referrals big time! I always ask "who do you know?" (that’s a stealth way to get high quality talent) Oh and Linkedin Ads work really well! Second let's chat about Advance Interview Techniques - My interview process feels like going to therapy. You need to dig in and find out if they are a good fit for your company and culture. When it comes to the interview It has been said "Dig Deep or Go to Sleep" Get comfortable asking the uncomfortable questions. This process can be polarizing! But that helps you and the candidate know if it's a good fit or not. I always ask current Compensation ASAP because I want this to be a better situation than their last few jobs. Finally, even if I'm not involved with the process I want to be the very last interview! That way I can make sure the person is a good fit. Finally, and we're almost done, let's talk Actual Hiring Process - This is specific mostly to leadership positions! You can find out more about our process in this video: https://youtu.be/vjTnad9jKk4 When it comes to your executive team you want to hire “Bar Raisers” (Thanks Jeff Bezos) Ask yourself, "Is this person better than our best performer in this area? Does this person have the potential to be our top performer?" Which leads me to my next thought: always hire the Best Leader, not always the best Skill Set that makes it easy because if all things are equal the win goes to the leader Finally, Hire for Attitude! Are they willing to put on the brown shorts? What does Brown Shorts have to do with this process? We talk about it this episode! What are some of your takeaways from this episode? Is there anything you do in the hiring process that I left out? I’d love to hear your thoughts. The Top 10 Tools I Use To Run My Online Business
I get asked all the time: “Chandler, what are the tools you use to run your online business?” “How do you manage a remote team?” I decided to record an episodes covering ALL of the tools I think are essential to running my online business. All of the tools we talk about today will be helpful online and for traditional brick and mortars but they will be especially helpful if you have a remote or virtual team. To avoid “Death By A Thousand Pieces of Software” I’m just going to talk about the top 10 that we use. The first 3-4 are Mission Critical MUST haves for my business (and probably for yours too). The rest of them are “nice to haves” or tools that might apply based on your business. I talk about the ones we use and why we don’t use some of the big players like Salesforce and Basecamp. Here’s the big take away: Avoid Software Fatigue! The best software for you is the one you and your team will actually use! There’s always going to be cool new software but if the cost to switch is too high then it’s not worth switching. I’d love to hear from you! Are there any of the tools I’ve recommended that you love or that you hate? Also, I’d love to know what softwares do you use to run your business? What is THE ONE that you can’t do without? Any that I missed in this list? Let me know your thoughts! How To Create A "People Plan" And Grow Your Network
Last year (2019) the average American ate by themselves around 378 times! Do you eat by yourself often? Keith Ferrazzi has a lot to say about that in his book “Never Eat Alone” This episode is an implementation guide for that book! Never Eat Alone Basic Concept = always be breaking bread and using meal time to connect with others. Beyond that though, it’s about really being intentional with the relationships that we build. Essentially, setting a “People Plan” In today’s episode I discuss Ferazzi’s “People Plan” and give you some ways to flesh it out. (Which, oddly enough, doesn’t get covered in the book!) Here’s how to create your People Plan! Create a spreadsheet (with tabs per city) Set 3-4 Categories Per City you’re in throughout the year People I want to Deepen Relationships With People I want to Meet People I know that can introduce me to others in that city Optional Bonus: Dating Material (if you’re single) It’s super important that we’re intentional about our relationships! Not only the ones that we have but also the ones we are looking to build. You can use my version here: https://bit.ly/3pW87Pl Just make sure to make a copy of it so you can make it your own! How To Sell Candidates On Working For Your Company During The Interview Process
Hiring = sales Don’t agree? Then you’re probably losing out on your best candidates. One of the best books I’ve ever read on hiring (“WHO”) talks about the 4 S’s of hiring (I talk about this process in my episode on hiring): Scorecard Sourcing great candidates Selecting the best one Selling them on working for you They list “selling” as the 4th step in the process, but the truth is it’s happening throughout the entire process. In this episode I talk about WHY and HOW to sell during the recruiting & hiring process in 4 steps: Recruiting Process Application Page (think sales page) Small Personal Touches Selling in the Interview I also go through how to sell with your best candidates during the interview process without them knowing it’s happening and without showing your cards. This is advanced level hiring. There’s no content like this on the internet. If you’re hiring, you need to listen to this episode! Once you do, let me know your thoughts / takeaways! How to Hire an Assistant (and set them up to save you 5-10 hours a week)
Hiring an assistant is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I wish I would’ve done it years earlier. In my opinion, it’s the first hire every entrepreneur should make. If you’re asking yourself, “Do I need an assistant?” - the answer is YES! As a friend of mine says: “If you don’t have an assistant, you are the assistant.” So….how do you hire an assistant? In this episode, I cover 3 things: Do I need an assistant? -- I already told you, yes! What does a good assistant do? How do you find a good assistant? One big thing to keep in mind when hiring an assistant is knowing the difference between a personal and executive assistant and figuring out which one you need. In this episode I will also be talking about: The top 5 things you need to be outsourcing 8 tasks for your executive assistant that will immediately save you 5-10 hrs a week I talk in another episode about my hiring process which will also help you in finding and hiring the best assistant for you.
