Episode #31 - Spa-tacular
Hello and welcome to episode 31 of the 5 Lights Formula One podcast, with me your host Daniel Herrick, bringing you all the latest news and opinions in the world of F1.This episode is entitled, "Spa-tacular" and we take a look back at the Belgian Grand Prix. We look at the winners, the losers, our predictions and the key stories from the race at Spa.Race ReviewIt won't be a race that will go down as a Spa classic, but there were plenty of talking points after the race in Belgium. Before the race even began we lost Nico Hulkenberg to a mechanical fault, quickly followed by Carlos Sainz, who did run for a handful of laps, but was quickly retired.Another poor start from the Mercedes team saw Rosberg swallowed up quickly by both Perez and Ricciardo in the run down to turn one. The Force India showed great pace throughout the race, making the last race in Hungary a distant memory.Another driver on a charge was Romain Grosjean, who's Lotus was in fine form, seeing him quickly rise up the field into fourth place. But it was right at the end where the real drama unfurled. Vettel running in third, had decided to one stop and his pace was slowing. Grosjean in the Lotus behind was catching the Ferrari rapidly, and with ust two laps remaining, at the top of Eau Rouge, Vettel's right rear tyre exploded, handing the Frenchman his first podium of 2015. Up front, Hamilton was dominant proving his critics (including us) wrong and after  bad start and a Virtual Safety Car, Rosberg was able to climb up to second, resulting in yet another Mercedes one-two, and their first win at Spa since 1955.Race BreakdownDan and Ben breakdown the race lap-by-lap.If you would like more from the 5 Lights team, follow us on Twitter @5LightsPod or visit our website, www.5lightspodcast.com

Nobody was injured during the intrusion.Massa's Contract Williams have until September to take up an option on Massa's contract, which will see him remain at the team. Speaking to Motorsport.com Massa revealed he hoped he would "announce the renewal quickly". If the deadline passes without a renewal, Felipe will be left searching for a new job next season.Vergne to Haas? Former Toro Rosso driver, and current Ferrari simulator driver, Jean-Eric Vergne believes he has a good chance of driving for Haas F1 next season, despite signing to race for DS Virgin in FIA Formula E. Vergne's ties with Ferrari should put him in good stead for a racing seat with Haas F1, as they will enter F1 with a technical allegiance with Italian team. However, Vergne will have to fight off Ferrari's reserve driver Esteban Gutierrez, who is strongly back by Mexican company Movil. There are also eight other drivers that have been considered for the driver line up, with a decision expected to be made by September.Ecclestone GP2 Team To battle the issues of drivers with raw talent not making it to Formula One due of their lack of funding and sponsorship, Bernie Ecclestone has suggested that a new team could be installed into the GP2 feeder series, where drivers that appear to have the qualities to be competitive in F1, but have no money, could be employed by the team and drive their way to success rather than pay their way.2016 Constructors The FIA have confirmed that Haas F1 Team will be the only new team on the grid for next season. Episode #29 - Our mid-season review
Hello and welcome to episode 29 of the 5 Lights Formula One Podcast, with me your host Daniel Herrick, brining you all the latest news and opinions in the world of F1.This episode is entitled "Our mid season review" and we will be going through two of our latest posts on the website, reviewing the teams and their season's so far. We will look at the highs, the lows and what they need to improve in the second half of this season. So without any further adieu, it's lights out and away we go!Latest newsHonda TokensHonda have announced that they will be using their remaining 7 power unit tokens from Spa onwards. Their main point of focus is the combustion of the engine which will be improved by changing the chamber design and intake and exhaust system layout. Another focus will be reducing mechanical friction by changing the gear train system. Only some of the tokens will be used in Spa, with what's left being introduced over the following eight races. Honda chief Yasuhisa Arai stated that they had maximised power output available during the last race in Hungary and have solved their reliability issues whilst admitting this whole challenge had been more difficult than anticipated.Renault UpgradesRenault's F1 director of operations, Remi Taffin, has announced that he is looking to use their remaining 12 power unit tokens at once rather than in small steps. As Red Bull team principal, Christian Horner, confirmed in Hungary, the token are not likely to be introduced until the Russian Grand Prix in October.Design an F1 CarFormer Marussia race engineer, Nicolas Perrin is hoping to become a fully fledged constructor in Formula One. Perrin has a basic car design but has requested that anyone can contribute to the design of the car as long as they are feasible and those which are will be used on his potential future F1 car. This ambitious plan is not helped by the fact that the rules don't currently allow a car or team to be produced in the way Perrin wishes. For more information head to www.perrinn.com.Singapore Circuit RevisionsTurns 12 to 13 of the Singapore circuit have been modified to help improve the chance of overtaking on the street circuit. Episode #28 - Budapest leaves us Hungary for more!
Hello and welcome to episode 28 of the 5 Lights Formula One Podcast, with me your host Daniel Herrick, brining you all the latest news and opinions in the world of F1.This episode is entitled "Budapest leaves us Hungary for more" and it is a look back at the incredible Hungarian Grand Prix. What a race, it had it all and there is so much to get into! Crashes, overtakes and more penalties than a penalty shootout! So without any further adieu, it's lights out and away we go!But before we get off the start line, I have to introduce my co-host here on the show. He is my brother, my compadre and my F1 mad friend, he is never under investigation, it's Ben!Race ReviewWe didn't think we would see a repeat of Silverstone, but from the start, that's exactly what we got! Both Ferraris this time making great starts, jumping the Mercedes into the lead, with Vettel leading Raikkonen. There was contact throughout the field with Ricciardo getting airborne when coming together with Bottas. But it was Hamilton running wide into the chicane, dropping him down to tenth place, that opened the race wide open. Positions changed, cars collided and Maldonado collected penalties, until Nico Hulkenberg lost his front wing, prompting first the Virtual Safety Car and then a full Safety Car.On the restart, Rosberg passed Kimi, who later retired with an MGUK issue and behind them Ricciardo attempted to overtake Hamilton, causing the two to collide and resulting in a drive through penalty for Lewis. Ricciardo continued and a few laps later, completed a hat-trick of collisions, when he ran wide in turn one and when rejoining the track, clipped Rosberg's left rear tyre, giving the German a puncture. Through it all though, one man kept his cool. Sebastian Vettel kept his nose clean claiming his first victory in Budapest. Kvyat finished second, his first podium of his F1 career, and Ricciardo rounded off the top three after a very eventful afternoon for the honey badger.Race BreakdownDan and Ben break down the race lap-by-lapMurray Walker quote: "That's the Forti and it looks like it's Roberto Moreno's car, the Brazilian. I was going to say the elderly Brazilian. Episode #22 - Rosberg rules in the Red Bull Ring
Hello and welcome to episode 22 of the 5 Lights Formula 1 podcast, with me your host Daniel Herrick, bringing you the latest news and opinions in the world of F1. This episode is called 'Rosberg rules at the Red Bull Ring' and he certainly did, taking his second consecutive victory at the Austrian Grand Prix, ahead of his team mate Lewis Hamilton. The title race is closing up and it's still all to play for, it's lights out and away we go!           The RaceBrief breakdown: Nico Rosberg his third win of the season after jumping Lewis at the start. He couldn't run away straight away however, after a huge accident between Kimi Raikonnen and Fernando Alonso who came together bringing out the safety car.Rosberg then leapt away at the restart, leaving Lewis behind and with no reply.Behind the Mercedes', Vettel suffered a right rear tyre issue in the pit stop enabling Massa to jump him into third after the pit stops There was plenty of action in the midfield with the Torro Rosso's, Lotus', Force Indias and Saubers all fighting in the midfield. The race was effectively finished when Lewis Hamilton was handed a five second penalty for crossing the white line on pit exit, meaning Rosberg picks up the win, closing the gap on his team mate.Williams managed to steal another podium from Ferrari after Massa held off a late charge from Vettel.McLaren suffer another horrific weekend with a total of 50 places worth of grid penalties, reliability issues, having to retire Jenson early in the race.OutroSo the title race is well an truly on, can Rosberg keep up the pressure, or was this just a blip in Hamilton's charge for the title. Next up it's Silverstone and me and Ben cannot wait! We will be doing a Silverstone stories podcast on Thursday/Sunday where we will be sharing our stories and wisdom from 10 years of visiting the home of the British Grand Prix.Murray walker quote: "24 Points for Schumacher, 23 for Hill, so there's only one point between them, if my mental arithmetic is correct."We'd like to thank bensound.com for our music, bookf1 for supporting us and of course you guys for listening. So join us as we look back at the Canadian Grand Prix, all the good and the bad.        The RaceBrief breakdown: Lewis Hamilton secures his fourth win and first ever for the Mercedes team in Montreal. The championship leader led from start to finish, beating team mate Rosberg into second place. Rosberg had been struggling with brake issues, but they weren't enough to seriously affect his race. Valteri Bottas clinched his and Williams' first podium of the season, finishing third, after Kimi Raikonnen's spin at the hairpin.  Sebastian Vettel and Felipe Massa managed to fight through the field following a disastrous qualifying, with Vettel driving superbly to finish fifth and Massa sixth. At the back of the grid, both McLarens retired following technical issues. Alonso was the first to retire after losing his cool over the radio, telling his engineer he didn't want to save fuel as there was no point! So a tough day for McLaren whilst Mercedes seem to be untouchable! We then get into our lap by lap breakdown touching on all the big issues of the race, including Meredes' domination, Raikonnen vs Vettel, McLaren's issues and the pre race penalties. We round it off with the drivers and constructors standings.OutroSo that's it, Canada is in the books and Lewis wins again. We now have two weeks until we head to the Red Bull Ring in Austria, where Red Bull and Torro Rosso will be looking for better showings. We will be back on Friday, when we will be interviewing formula one race Marshall Peter Greenhalgh We leave you with audio from McLaren's 50th anniversary video, with Bruce McLaren talking about his career. Hopefully McLaren can draw some inspiration from it going into the rest of the season. If you want more from the 5 Lights Podcast head over to 5lightspodcast.com, where you can read all our latest blog posts, subscribe to our podcast and subscribe to the Weekly Debrief newsletter.
